GT86, you can see the climate control panel

Trashed675 02-06-2013 02:05 PM

I've never understood why you'd want a push button starter when you have to put the key in anyways. Unless the car recognizes the key is near and allows you to just hit the button(?)

SubieNate 02-06-2013 03:00 PM

So basically the button is red now? For $225? Yikes.

Can I have your old button? :D

Not knocking OP's purchase at all (his money, his taste), but knocking instead on TRD. WTF were they thinking when they priced this thing out? How much R&D and engineering did it take to make that button? That thing is worth $2 tops in material and manufacturing. The capital to make the original button is already in place, just change the colour and lettering and housing slightly and bam, $225?

Kevin O'Leary is probably having an orasm just hearing about a 11150% profit on a $2 part.

have no key....this is the biggest car convenience improvement in the past 50 years. love it. keep the fob in your pocket and door unlocks when you walk up. wonderful. hit the button and go, :)

I disagree.

you have to consider the big picture, R&D,, test, manufacturing, logistics, TRD royalties, then re-sale markup,...........this is a $50 dollar part.

So all this did was change the button color, and reduced a couple of grams for $225?

Hmmm, yes and no. The raw materials - plastic, copper, steel, etc might amount to the $2 your mentioning.

This is like saying "Hey, that car is only worth $300 in raw materials. Why are they charging 30K?"

This switch has a lot going on, like any other switch in an automobile.

I think you would be hard pressed to find any automotive switch, relay, harness, etc that would cost $2.

It's not just red. It's an entirely new switch that is plug and play with the existing harness.

When you are talking about something as important as ignition, I think it's worth the 200 bucks cost of entry. Hence, why I have the STi version on my car.

Yeap. My STI button definitely made the car start better AND added about 5hp up top.

I should have weighed the parts...but they probably weigh exactly the same.....except the new one had a big sticker on it that could have made it heaver by 4 nano grams.

but the 2 n a qwater also got me a cool green back light. will get a picture of this tonight.

Sorry for the post bump... but does the button come with a fob you can keep in your pocket so you don't have to insert your keys in the button?

He already had that. He is driving a gt86 that already had push button start. All he did was change the button to the TRD one.

RojerLockless 05-22-2014 08:43 PM

Couldn't you just get a red sticker that says TDR and put it over your button?

continuecrushing 05-22-2014 08:44 PM

lol at people justifying a plastic button for $225

charged86 05-22-2014 10:00 PM

Cardboard on paint is a no.

Snowblind 05-27-2014 03:35 PM

The center console piece is kind of a pain to remove. You also need to be careful so you don't break the tabs.
