Full Blown Stage 1 Short Block
 
We've been building quite a few short block for the FA20 Engine. Our blocks uses nothing but the best parts to ensure that it will endure the abuse. We keep a couple of cores and plenty of pistons and rods in stock to minimize the wait times.

This is the same block found in our 700HP Shop Car. Although this is a fairly new platform, We have learned how to keep these engines together with the right parts and clearances.

Yep. Should be able to run quite a bit more boost with 93 octane and those pistons.

Easily 400-450whp on pump with that bottom end........I guess it would be considered a center end on a boxer........but it doesnt end anything.....F it! Short block! lol

Even though those wall look beefy, the fact that its an open deck still might pose a threat. Im sure if they thought so they would tell us. Im sure this thing could handle 5-600hp all day no problem.

Glad to hear that your stock block is still holding up. You guys were pushing it pretty hard and I was getting curious about it.

Do you have any thoughts on the biggest weak point of the stock short block yet or where the most likely failure area may be under boost?

Judging solely on your automotive laundry list in your signature I'd say you would be a perfect candidate to have a 1000hp block put together. The ONLY potential limitation in the build would be the clients cheque book but it's clear that would not be much of a concern for yourself! :eyebulge:

I'd be interested in this in a couple years. TBH, I'ms till trying to learn how to effectively drive this thing at lower power levels. I've never owned a car this slow that's this much fun (I've owned plenty of other cars between 400-600 rwhp and tq)

Oh of course, everything can always be improved! I was just talking on behalf of the majority of people doing work to their car - although if you are buying a built bottom end, maybe you aren't " most " brz/frs owners.

What advantages can be had by utilizing ferrea products for these heads?

I cant wait for the day I can run 20-25 psi in my FRS. My Tc on 15psi is a beast I can't even imagine what a FA20 can do.

Supercharger would be rough with alot of power.. just because the car is so light and going from 1-3 or even 4th gear the tires will be slipping all the time.. turbo would be a better option boosting up with a built motor due to turbo kicking in at a later time.

Boost by gear is pretty handy actually. A friend of mine has that on his full race turboed 8th gen si.

You can apply boost per gear as well. Don't give her full boost till 3rd or so.

Have you ever driven a 2.0l supercharged car? The power comes on pretty much in a linear fashion because the boost generated is rpm dependent being its design so traction would be better than a turbo for this car. Peak torque and hp would be at the same rpm as NA basically but just bigger numbers. A turbo setup will give you more torque and at MUCH lower rpm.

Depends on what type of supercharger you are talking about. Twin screw comes on harder and faster than a turbo, centri comes on linear.

I had twinscrew aka "roots" blower on my si and the power came on linear and full boost did not happen until near redline because the blower is drive via a BELT from the motor

You just described a centri blower - and although roots and twin screw use similar designs they are not synonymous.

twinsrew and roots have instant boost at any rpm basically

We are working on a fuel system. That is the main reason why we stopped. We maxed everything out.

curious as to why you're going with a no quench surface profile on your pistons. Are you ditching the DI? or have you found that the tumble profile on the stock pistons don't matter as much for your application even if your keeping the DI?

No, this will keep the DI. When we first discussed the design of the piston for the FA20 motor with arias, they felt that there wasn't a need for the quench area because they have tested similar designs on a porsche DI system without any issues or benefits.

Once we find some time to tear into our shop car again, we will have results shortly.

Same bore x stroke? Sorry if I missed that somewhere. Personally, I'd love to see an overbore of this engine. I don't know what the OEM cylinder wall thresholds are.
