why did you choose the FRS over the BRZ or other cars?
I've posted the same question on the BRZ section and many gave reasons to why they chose the BRZ over the FRS such as HID, Alcantara, front look, interior etc.
Now for FRS owners, why did you choose the FRS over the BRZ or other cars that you might have considered? You can select multiple options and/or add additional comments. |
i chose the FR-S over the BRZ because it was being offered @ MSRP
|
I just like they way the FR-S looks, I just like it better than the BRZ
|
I like all the minor styling differences of the FR-S. I just wish it was available with some of the luxuries of the BRZ like HID/LED's and a GPS Nav/XM Radio, Leather/Alcantara seats, etc.
|
I would've gotten the WRB BRZ if I didn't have to wait and deal with markups. But I don't really regret getting the ultramarine FR-S either. I'm glad to have been able to own the car for so long already while many people are still waiting.
|
Couldn't justify a $4.5k diff for HID's and a GPS.
|
I don't think it takes a large strech of the imagination to say you're out of your territoty. This is like me going over to a Hyundai Genesis forum and asking them why they bought a Genesis instead of an FR-S. It doesn't make sense.
You're not a troll are you? |
I like frs face better then brz n light, n I hate leather seats, I like the fact this car is a pure preformance notsome luxury mark up, I like it better then my brother 130k$ cl63 amg,
|
Hmm... because the original AE86 is a TOYOTA? :)

I like the FR-S bumper better.
I got an FR-S in June when BRZ's weren't available without order. Didn't have to pay a 2K mark up with the FR-S. I was fine with the stock stereo, cloth seats, etc. etc. I would have switched out the stereo either way. Only thing I am really missing out on the the BRZ is the headlights and WRB. I will be replacing my headlights with either black FR-S lights or BRZ lights, so it isn't a big deal. Kinda glad I couldn't get WRB since it seems to be such a popular color. |

Considering I wasn't really looking to buy a new car when I got mine.. I can only really compare directly to a BRZ. Just so happened that the yota dealer offered payoff for my '10 WRX so I had to jump on the deal. Why FRS over BRZ? See below in order of importance;
price front bodywork spartan interior (I prefer simple cars) I'm friends with the guy that sold me mine and he got me a really solid deal for my trade. |
Back in June (and still now) local BR-Zs were carrying $5K mark-up and FR-S was available at MSRP.
|
Because AE86 is a Toyota.
Because 5 Axis body kit is the shizznitz! Because cheaper and available. I would've love it if Toyota offered the EURO version (GT86) instead of the current scion version. |
Been there, done that reference to what BRZ had to offer. I wanted something 'less' to throw around. Markup on the BRZ is sitting in my pocket...that's a pretty comfy feeling.
|
Hot Lava. Front bumper & 86 piston flashes. I'd rather deal with Toyota.'d rather deal with Toyota.
|
I like the front end of the frs more, plus why pay more for the core essential.

I haven't bought one yet. I like Brz HID, stiffer suspension(Motor trend review) but I can't justify either to pay 28k when I can get a FRS for 25k. Thats 3 grand in my pocket that I can spend on wheels and other mods. Unless a dealer sells me a brz at invoice 26k Then I'm going to get a Frs. Money is hard to come by these days and 3k markups is a ripoff.

Price and availability. No other reason. I'd prefer the Subaru brand if I had the option, but that's meaningless.
|
the front end of the car and the way it drove is what sold me!! it took me a good week to decide!!! i really did want the subaru's hid's and leather but that was the only redeeming quality of the BRZ, besides the subaru brand being better in my mind than the scion brand (own personal bias), the way the fr-s drove and the aggressive front end is what ultimately led me to buy the scion

Why i choose the GT86 ... it's an old ..story .. 40 years ago i had one of the first Celicas ST1600 , it left in me an unforgettable impression and satisfaction I never found later in any of the many cars I drove . an later I had a ST2000 ( supra model) SO when i saw this one exposed in the airport hall at Brussels National i felt in love .. and back from a trip in Africa i bought it as I saw it exposed . Orange , leader automatic . put a rear camera , and wheel hole protections. That's it for the moment .I'm looking for HACHI ROKU emblems in JAPANESE WRITING to put near the 86 logo on both sides. if unable to find I 'll let it paint on carbody. That's it for now soon weather allows it , i ll send some pics here inside the chat .
>By the way ... i was so impressed with the "86 lightnings in me ... i did'nt even try the car before buying ... I knew "she" and "me" will be a great mariage .!! And to those who "hesitaded or are not yet "sure" ... dont , cause i tell once you step and sit in the car , after one minut driving you keep on ...driving .. it's very very pleasant. Friendly . Because of aesthetics. I like the front bumper a lot more, I like the gauges with the white background, and I like the fenders more.
The only thing I wish I had that the BRZ has are HIDs, but they aren't worth getting a car with an uglier front end (IMO). |
love front end more than BRZ. dont care much for interior accessories and stuff lol. itll probably get torn out somewhere down the road anyways or replaced with aftermarket. cuz race car. also, seeing do boys fr-s got me convinced to get a black one haha
|
Price. No negotiations and a 1k graduate discount. Easy decision.

A couple of factors here. The front, yes, but that's minor, as well as the price difference for things I didn't really want and wouldn't have gotten as options had we gotten the GT-86 instead.
The big thing for me, however, was availability. I would have been waiting much longer (read- not enjoying) for the car had I gone for the BRZ. |

Didnt care about looks, badge or colour, I just wanted the platform. The FR-S was the only one in my area that had an Auto as the wife sucks at driving a manual.
|
I had initially heard about the fR-S and ended up preordering it after an auto notification on the very first day they were taking orders. Then, I found out about the Subaru with more available luxury equipment. Initially I made a call to a Subaru dealer in Buffalo, to see if there was any benefit to buying stateside. Never ended up pursuing that option as the warranty work would have been a pain and import duties negated any savings. Upon thinking it over, I realized I would be satisfied with the equipment level and look of the Scion. Also, I am the kind of guy that almost never goes back on a deal. I don't regret it in the least.
|
Brand Loyalty. I'm a Toyota guy. Through and through.
|
Why is suspension not an option? Suspension.
|
It was being offered at MSRP instead of $5k over. And I found it was waiting for me in a showroom with 6 miles on it. I get it instantly, and at the price it was supposed to be offered at.
|
I wanted as bare bones as possible, and actually liked the Scion lack of cool image. It's funny to me.
|
I've got more love for Toyota than Subaru. (Don't that that as a dislike Subaru, I like them very much, just not as much as Toyota. There is some brand loyalty at play here.) I've had several Supras and various other Toyota cars. The wife even has a Prius (which is a great car... for her, not me.)
I also like the styling on the FR-S over the BRZ. I too, like many others, wish Scion wasn't a mono-spec brand. I would have gladly paid more for some creature comforts, but fortunately everything that I do want can be added over time. |
Good value for the money. Handling, looks, reliability, gas mileage, "rare" factor, all for right around $25k...not a bad package, compared to the other cars I was looking at (5.0, EvoX, G8 GXP, Sti, etc)
|
- front end design
- 86 fender badging - white tachometer (really love this for some reason) - price/availability - suspension tuning (easier to coax into oversteer on the street) - radio |
Availability and the front bumper doesn't look retarded on the FR-S. Also Five Axis.
|
I'm not a huge fan of interior options. The way the Scion looks now is more than what I use.
Plus, dealer employee got me discount on price. |
After having a original AE86, following the buildup for the 86 along with being a First86 winner there was never a doubt which one I would get.
