for those who are buying the BRZs, what made you pick BRZ over Scion FRS?

like the title says, what are your reasons choosing BRZ?

Giccin 12-10-2011 09:45 PM

Sinister front look.

Rear end looks better to me.

Interior doesn't look to shabby.

Can haggle price or use subaru VIP program.

Satin White Pearl

Grip

Digital HVAC

Black Tach

Yenadar 12-10-2011 09:49 PM

The biggest reason is that after having Toyota destroy a previous car through incompetent mechanics and then 3 years of jerking me around while they pointed fingers at different departments at who should be the one to pic up the tab... I have a moral objection to sending Toyota my money, regardless of how appealing the car is.

Plus:

-Higher Price = Fewer teenagers driving it, probably lower insurance rates
-More grip oriented than the FR-S
-Looks better (subjective, but for me, the only perspective that matters is mine)
-Probably going to end up as more of a DD than a track car, so the added options are welcome rather than irritating weight
-That satin white is the only white I've seen that might really compete with the Whitewater Pearl of my RX-8

Top post. Thumbs up.

Equipment and interior. I understand that Scion, when it offers these upgrades, charges more than I'd get with the Subaru.

WingsofWar 12-10-2011 11:42 PM

With the car being mostly mechanically subaru, id prefer to stick with the core company involved with the manufacturing of the car. While i loveToyota and is a big Toyota fan over Subaru. I just had to go with this car for these reasons.

- Seems like a more mature car over Scion model
- Fogs and LEDs
- Digital HVAC
- Black Tachometer
- Subaru VIP program
- I typically favor STI parts prices over TRD parts prices
- Satin White Pearl

Guff 12-11-2011 12:13 AM

I'm leaning to Subaru right now because the rumors (read: speculation) suggests that Subaru will have a bit more bang for you buck in regards to overall package. I also like that the suspension is tuned more for grip rather than sliding around.

But, I'm just gonna wait til pricing before I make any decisions/deposits.

EJ20 12-11-2011 12:16 AM

1- because here no scion (well we still have the GT86 in middle east)
2- teenagers will drive the toyota here (see youtube for kids doing hajwala in toyota camry? its there #1 car manufactuer!) so basicly this car will be thier new trend :(
3- front end/bumper, looks more like a grown up car
4- more grip
5- I like the new satin white color
6- I enjoy subaru since 2003 (this gonna be my 3rd subaru)

Longhorn248 12-11-2011 12:29 AM

-Looking for a DD not a track car so I don't need it stripped down
-Overall I like the looks better which is obviously subjective
-Figure it will be a bit more exclusive than Scion
-Different crowd (lower insurance *crosses fingers*) with higher price point
-HID and LED in the headlights =
-Overall I like the interior better (A/C, leather/alcantra, push button start)
-WRC Blue

caeavesrsx-s 12-11-2011 12:36 AM

Not having to tell people I drive a Scion.

Almost forgot about that! This might sway me to Subaru despite pricing! I love WRC Blue!

Mitch 12-11-2011 12:51 AM

My main reasons:
- Better looking (subjective).
- Badge stigma with Scion (subjective).
- Hopefully lower insurance than the Scion.
- Subaru did the lion's share of the engineering, and I'd like to reflect that in my purchase.

tranzformer 12-11-2011 12:54 AM

I pick BRZ because of this :)

1. That blue color
2. Front end looks better.
3. And my brother is a car salesman for my local Subaru dealer :happy0180:

Badge whoring...http://foreverdyingbrightly.com/blog...disappoint.jpg

And what is this more grip BS I'm hearing. From what I've read the BRZ just understeers more than the FR-S, just like all Subaru's. That doesn't make it more "grip oriented."

If it goes Understeer-->Nuetral Grippiness-->Oversteer, then I suppose going a little left from a car we hear is very easy to oversteer would put us more in the middle wouldn't it?

ashtray 12-11-2011 02:11 AM

JDM girls are hotter bc all we get in the states are import models. Or ones that are made locally. ;)

As for the original question:
-Price (exclusivity, ie not a teen car)
-push start button
-HIDs
-leather/suede
-17" w/summer tires
-will "match" my WRX

It's more complicated than this, think about the fact that you can oversteer and understeer in the same corner. It doesn't work as if by turning the oversteer dial down = linear increase in understeer.

BTW, not trolling, I'd rather have the BRZ interior, but it all depends on price.

Shevon 12-11-2011 04:38 AM

For me the BRZ is at the top of my list over the FRS now is mainly the fact that the interior is better looking. The center stack is fugly in the FRS.

It's in the BRZ Premium model too LOL

U mad?

Anyway, I would pick the FR-S simply because (bare bones > luxury) . . . I don't need navigation, fog lights, or hid. I also prefer the lines of the FR-S.

However if a turbo was to ever come out I would jump on it, regardless of brand...

Tsinoy 12-11-2011 05:15 AM

i want the BRZ because of the Brand Name to be honest.
I know it sounds stupid to most people, but it feels more
unique to me. I just wanted to eliminate the "common" car
in the street. More people would buy the FRS, i know it already.

Zgrinch 12-11-2011 06:57 AM

BRZ because ...

Interior - I know that's a shock given my recent posts. This will be a DD and I refuse to be surrounded by an interior that looks like I'm driving a low priced rental
Front end - not at first, but the more I have compared the two, the BRZ seems to have a more fluid lines.
Tach - white is ok, but black gives a more upscale look, plus I love the red backlight at night, which I assume will not be possible with white tach
Lights - front and back end lights are much better IMO
Ability to negotiate - I enrolled in VIP program when I first read about it here (thanks) and will be eligible when the car is released. Even if it is not honored, I think it will give me leverage.
Color options
Availability - Based on the "95%" who are looking to get an FRS for financial reasons.

Summary - except for the mechanics, this is just the higher end car.

SUB-FT86 12-11-2011 07:55 AM

Every single reason everyone in this thread mention is my reasons too.

I want more features standard so I don't have to buy them after. All I want to do is lower the BRZ Limited and slap on some 18x8/18x9.5 Enkei PF01 silver finish rims.

I don't know if I would put it exactly like that, but I think you're basically right. I think the FRS will go to high school kids whose parents are buying it for them, or people who are generally on a tight budget. The BRZ will sell more to people who are a few years out of college, just getting into professional life, and looking to buy their first car, and to basically anyone older than that. I'm not saying interior quality is the top of my list of priorities, but I don't want an interior that sucks, and that's what it seems like the Scion has.

Reasons:
Interior - from all the pictures so far the Scion has hard plastic everywhere, while the Subaru has soft touch materials and more metal trim accents. This might not seem like a big difference, but in the Scions I have been in before the interior has been a big turn off. This is something that will drive people who can afford it to spend a little more on the Subaru.

Scion brand vs. Subaru brand - Scion is marketed towards the younger, slightly immature boy racer/fast and furious scene. I think you'll see a lot of riced out Scions pretty much right off the bat (it's already started with the GReddy model). I could see the FRS becoming the next Civic and the BRZ gives older, more mature buyers a way to distance themselves from this crowd.

Headlights - I don't have a preference for the bumper designs, but the Scion headlights look terrible and the BRZ has HIDs standard. This is the biggest thing to me that makes the BRZ better looking. If the Scion has the 86 headlights as an option I would have to reconsider.

Handling - Scion is making the car neutral handling from the factory, this in my opinion is a bad thing because all the high schools kids who get them will be almost guaranteed to crash them trying to recreate the Ken Gushi drift video in their student parking lot. This will make insurance rates higher. People who really want neutral handling will get coilovers anyways, so how the factory suspension handles won't matter to them. The key is that the Subaru understeers from the factory, but this can be easily tuned out with a different suspension setup or even different tires. Meanwhile people who have no idea what understeer and oversteer means will not be crashing into trees.

That being said, I personally haven't decided yet. It all comes down to price and options, but so far I'm leaning towards the BRZ Premium with VIP pricing.

And the BRZ is only gong to be what $1k more than a base frs? How is that rich when you get so much more? But wait we don't even know what the base price will be on either one of these.

Right now I am going BRZ because I want hids and push start and dual zone ac and the alcantra leather sport seats...

I honestly think the 86 looks the best of the three, but we need Subaru to start showing the BRZ in the public like scion is doing now.

Yeah the headlights are killing it for me on the frs. Not sure if the interior has different plastics than the BRZ. I think that is just lighting and the BRZ has real leather trim on the doors and padding on the center console.

Also the BRZ retains the frameless rearview mirror too.

But supposedly the frs and 86 handles better of the track, but how many times are you gonna be on the track?

A lot of people on the frs side say they don't like push start, for me I want it. One less key to worry about...hehe. Is it not cool to just walk up to your ride and open the door and get it and push the button to start it?

But yeah the frs and even the BRZ will be the next big car craze! It's gonna make Honda and Nissan come up with some new cheap rwd coupes to compete.

Matador 12-11-2011 11:31 AM

The Satin white pearl is a really nice colour. I like it. Not sure if I like it enough to make that a deciding factor though.

p.s. To all the folks kidding themselves that the Subaru crowd will be more "grown up", sorry to say, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but the majority of Impreza owners that I know, are total douchenozzles and yes, I know quite a few.

Its the tail lights. I don't like how it protrudes on the FRS. :P

Plus butts with more 'umph' is what I like. :D

WhiteGDB 12-11-2011 12:28 PM

Rear ends are exactly the same besides badging, no?

Zaku 12-11-2011 12:30 PM

Aside from the light housing of the BRZ being like the Japanese counterpart, and the FRS being I think red or blacked out that seem to be the only difference. That and Badge placements. It look better on the BRZ to be honest.

I represent the I love BRZ fan club but I sit on the undecided inbetween :D

I wouldn't say exactly the same excluding badge but let me pull it up realll quick

Edit: After looking at the TMS BRZ and Toyota version. It does look the same excluding badges.

However.. I remember the FRS having a different rear... Hmmm

Zaku 12-11-2011 12:46 PM

Just because the car is more expensive doesn't mean the crowd that is getting them will be Mature, Ignorance exist doesn't matter your age. Aside from the people I've met here the one that are Ignorant or already banned I don't think that will be any problems. But I don't want people to start thinking that the car decides how mature a person is, BRZ side of the forum already display that they are more mature, but I don't think they should get into an elitist attitude.

Besides we don't know all the information yet, and according to that one SCION sales manager if the difference between the Premium and FRS is 1500$ you might get a better equipped FRS for less. So far alot of the argument to getting the BRZ aside from the fact that it looks a hell better then the FRS IMHO is the Limited features.

How many here would actually get a LIMITED and not a Premium? because I'm under the impression most people here aside from Zgrich who declared he's getting a limited is a premium buyer. How many will sway if th FRS turns out to be better equipped then the Premium BRZ and is 1500$ less.
