Winter hurts.

This was 1h of driving this morning. Car was washed last night. We got about 2" of snow and here in WI we use sand and salt.

Ouch.

It is a car. It does not care.

When I mentioned on the FRS forum that I never bother to wash my car, you would swear I said that I like to kick puppies! You just illustrated why it is pointless to bother washing cars in Canada. We get a lot of that cruddy weather and car washes last minutes.

What did you think of the driving experience in what must have been sub-par traction situation?

Superhatch 02-04-2013 03:32 PM

I have snow tires on so I've got good traction in most slippery conditions.

I was actually thinking about taking a video to show how easy it is to drive this car in the snow with the correct tires.

glorydays 02-04-2013 03:32 PM

Embrace it.

Yup

Meehow86 02-04-2013 04:23 PM

First mod if I get a BRZ: winter tires. Now that's YOLO.

BoxeRZ 02-04-2013 04:56 PM

Talked to my sales rep in WI today and he said it was -19°F this morning, cant imagine how long it would take to let these cars warm up form those temps.

They are actually pretty cold blooded. Figure 15-20 minutes before you get heat out of the vents.

Grey 02-04-2013 05:15 PM

As someone who put his into a garage in October and never looked back, seeing this is making me hurt.

BunnyRZed 02-04-2013 05:20 PM

If you want to baby your car then I would get another car for winter and drive the FR-S/BRZ when the weather is nice outside. I'm blessed with wonderful weather in California.

While I would shy away from not washing the car at all, I generally save real washing for the summer and just worry about getting all the gunk and salt off in the winter. My opinion is if it can't handle the snow, ice, salt and sand it isn't truly a Subaru. :D

kchkwan 02-04-2013 08:42 PM

im driving around with winters now... doesn't really hurt imo... just go rinse the car and wipe it down every time the car looks salty white... those shell indoors self serves do me well.... cost like $5 for a complete rinse... note, its not a complete car wash... just a rinse...

immortal_suby 02-04-2013 10:24 PM

You poor bastards. I hate to tell you that my SVX is now my winter beater so that my BRZ can sit in the garage if they even hint of snow or hail.

Tt3Sheppard 02-04-2013 10:40 PM

She handles good in the snow with some good snow tires. When you want to have its as simple as switching off traction control

And cursed with the Democratic Republic's Laws :(

Khazzy 02-04-2013 10:41 PM

I do a rinse on the weekends unless the roads are wet and its below freezing. I just blast off the grime from the road and dry it down in the bay, out of the wind.

Superhatch 02-05-2013 12:24 AM

^ Same here.

For me I'm feeling sorry for all of you that don't drive year round. :D

I was on the fence about getting an 02 WRX or a 99 2.5RS as a winter beater, but in the end decided that the couple days through the winter that are actually nasty out are worth the 95% of winter in WI where the roads are clear and dry.

I live in Houston. It was 70 degrees out yesterday. I was in shorts over the weekend. Winter? Snow? Not really sure what those words mean.... :P

Your balls will be frozen preventing you from walking, then rest of your body will freeze at where you're standing, you won't even get to your car... so whether or not your car will start is irrelevant.

WolfpackS2k 02-06-2013 02:34 PM

Oh come on now with that crazy exaggeration:bellyroll:

Now you're just being silly.

Marcoscrdo 02-06-2013 02:42 PM

I hate the salt :( its all inside the grill and on engine. i want it to go away :(

jmaryt 02-06-2013 11:46 PM

(hot damn!) "two tone!" seriously,it all comes off in the wash! just do it sooner than
later, before it gets a chance to attack your metal. nasty stuff!

Heck, I live in SoCal, and even I leave my BRZ in the garage if there are clouds in the sky! :respekt: (I gotta find SOME use for my WRX, right?)

More salt covered pics. Looking at my car covered in ice snow and salt was my favorite feeling after looking at it fresh from a detail.

Something about the rugged "i drive my car" look is pleasing

brzninja 02-07-2013 09:41 AM

I pretend that the coat of salt on my car is a protective seal that helps my BRZ avoid attention. It doesn't work. Where is my summer?
