Wheel Directory: Hayashi New Street STL 17x7.5 +35

http://www.darrendriven.com/ft86/title.png

Not long again, classic japanese wheel maker Hayashi Racing released their first new wheels in quite some time. The "New Street STL" take the classic Hayashi Street design and bumps up the diameter to 17" for the first time. The first releases were for the Prius/Prius Aqua and they just recently released the 86 and BRZ Specific fitment, 17x7.5 +35 5x100

I was incredibly fortunate to recieve the first set outside of Japan (so far only 3 sets have been delivered in Japan). Pictures are below, sorry for the poor quality, used my point and shoot and we didn't get a chance to shoot until it was dark. Will post better pictures once they are available.

Better looking than Tom's

RAYSSPL 02-03-2013 04:42 PM

Looks good, but I kinda wish they were wider, like 9-10"

ZC6BRZ 02-03-2013 05:19 PM

dig 'em! but yeah, wish they were at least 8". Wonder why all the OG tuning shops in Japan (TRD, Toms, STI, RS Watanabe, Hayashi) run such conservative wheels.

dori. 02-03-2013 05:27 PM

probably has something to do with the car only having 200hp

Ro_Ja 02-03-2013 07:08 PM

Odd question, but can you take a photo or two of the clearance between the caliper and wheel? Also, what do you estimate the weight of the wheels at?

Calidrifter 02-03-2013 07:11 PM

Great functional size and offset. Classic design. Whats not to like?

Oh yeah I forgot that the user on this site sometimes think that this is stance nation jr dot com...lol

Estey 02-03-2013 07:43 PM

does an 18" wheel really change how the car feels? It seems like it would make a stock car feel sluggish, which is a shame because i really like how 18's look. especially those ms3's

Moto-P 02-03-2013 07:54 PM

Original Hayashi Stret ST series wheels soon available in 17" for two models, Scion FRS, Toyota Prius with dedicated fitment specs or both in classic sport functional specifications. The new series uses lighter alloys with stronger design and machine process, CNC from single billet. #hayashracing Hayashi racing.

Not your ordinary stance fashion, this is OG from the 1960's and still unchanged and untainted by trends. It's the REAL deal.

Here, accompanied by a more modern SSR Professor MS3, and Hayashi Classic looking no less in style after 40+ Years. Mr. Hayashi, who created the design, is now in his 70's age, and still not veering from the original style he created in the 1960's.

And YES, Mr.Hayashi himself is LOOKING at your posts, so be nice, and be constructive in your posts!! :)

You do realize, by not being very nice with constructive criticism, especially to Mr.Hayashi, who is just about the most highly regarded designer of Japan's original racing industry, you have just about alienated yourself from like the entire line of Japan's products... His accomplishments are the foundations with which JDM tuner and racing has begun in the 1960's... :) Might want to reword that (if you care...)

Without this man, WORK, HKS, Greddy, SSR, NISMO, TRD, and 100 other Japanese companies would have been very different than today. He's not just a wheel designer from the 1960's...
He's also the founding member of DOME racing, which constructs just about every GT race car in carbon today, for almost all Japanese makers racing in Super GT and other series over the last several decades in Japan and abroad.

You don't have to like it, but be nice, is all I ask... Thanks

Very nice, kinda scared to ask how much you paid for them.

Ugly is ugly, out of date is out of date. Sorry I didn't pour sugar on my comment. Maybe those would look good on a 60-80 era car in smaller sizing... They also look like they are cheep cast wheels as well. It's like a rota like wheel company backed by a name.

"*Hayashi Street wheels required special care by owners.
The machine polished part will be rust because they are not coated by clear paint.
*Clear Coating, Color Clear Coating and painting of the wheels can be ordered with extra charges."

For real, rust? Sorry if I come off as rude on a public debate and discussion car forum. Simply my opinion. I highly doubt that I will be alienated by the JDM universe as well.

Look for your selves people. 300-500 a wheel for 13-15's idk about that, most people in "the game" know better.

TeamZleep 02-03-2013 10:16 PM

I feel honored that Mr. Hayashi had these released for the FRS/86/BRZ. I'm an old school jdm guy, so these wheels have a soft spot in my heart.

The size, offset, everything work perfect for someone who is looking for a different wheel that isn't over the top and will retain the cars factory designed functionality while adding subtle style.

I'm having the hardest time with wheel choice due to the fear of compromising an already well balanced car. I think these may have me sold though.

Again, thank you, Mr. Hayashi for all you do for the Japanese sports car enthusiast. :)

opinion - these are ugly wheels

Everyone has an opinion, and mine is that these are ugly wheels. Especially the Hayashi Street STL classic wheels. If you post pictures of wheels you are going to get varying opinions on how they look. If you don't want to hear anyone's opinion then don't post.

Calidrifter 02-03-2013 10:18 PM

There is a reason why timeless designs are timeless. And there is something to say for people that can appreciate both new and classic designs.

Weve already seen that the 86 can be made into an 80s style car. So there is no reason why this wheel cant be done on the 86.

CircuitJerk 02-03-2013 10:24 PM

These are awesome. I think 225/45/17's would be a perfect size for these wheels.
Just when I thought I had it all figured out. Now another choice!

:party0030:Not complaining though!

That's what I thought.
Love to hear your thoughts and some pics when you do.

n2oinferno 02-03-2013 10:52 PM

I like the design, and think it looks pretty good on the car. Wish it was .5" wider, but oh well.

About the "rust" posted by someone earlier.. Aren't these aluminum? Shouldn't they, then, oxidize and turn flaky white instead of rusting?

Yes, I think it's in the translation. Oxidize would be the correct term.
Easy to remedy if you don't let it go too long.
I kinda like that they come naked.

QFry 02-03-2013 11:31 PM

I would own these in a heartbeat! Nice look!

I have no problem with opinions of negativity, but I felt that being rude was not a mannerly conduct for any forum like this one. That is all...

Ugly, fine, but Disgusting... ah well, I didn't say to go buy or like anything one didn't want right? Let's just stay peaceful is what I am saying. No need to start a flame-fest unless you've been wronged as a customer for something right?

I appreciate your comments, I'll put it that way -- negative or positive.

kimchangil424 02-04-2013 03:32 AM

Those are great looking classic wheels. Nice choice!

ebphoto 02-04-2013 12:16 PM

love them..
rather they be more aggressive and deep though.
had 14x9 -19 on order for my 86 but the vendor was just lying to me about the order for 6 months (before they had us distro)... they were 2400$shipped just for 14's.. couldnt imagine the price for 17's.

jeebus 02-04-2013 01:48 PM

It's a nice-looking wheel for an old-school car. The Toyobaru is not an old-school car, and it's lines don't work well with this wheel design.

ichitaka05 02-04-2013 02:19 PM

Calm down now.

I respect everyone's opinion & have a right to comment on it. BUT if you cannot say something nice or have a constructive comment move along.

No, you don't suck, you were honest. I appreciate it, but just didn't want to insult anyone here with the thread, that's all. That editing of the post, that's all moderators, I didn't mark or report anything to anyone. But thanks for undertanding.

I see it more like telling girls in 2012 that pony-tails and flair-skirts are sexy. It's rather antiquated in trends, but makes great deal of sense to those in another niche.
I, too wish the wheels were already available in 18x8 or something but we are trying to convince a man whose stature is as highly regarded in Japan and as iconic as Colin Chapman and Carrol Shelby there... So I'll do my best to keep pushing, and it helps if things go nicely with these 17's which are his style. And it's a classic, without the tainting of current trends and does enhance for those choosing to be milder, and functionally close to the original intent and visions of the FRS, however conservative this may be for the mod-happy American enthusiasts today. :) All good man.

industrial 02-04-2013 03:25 PM

Classic wheels! I'm glad they are available for us. I don't think the dark blue does the wheels right though. I think they'd really look nice on a white car.

:) I like it on the Ultramarine and Firestorm, the two colors that are theme to 1970's look.

I don't know why the old USA distributor for the wheels (now gone) wrote about this, as complaints are mostly for the owners of the original ones sold in the 70's and 80's who are looking to restore the classics. Of course almost any wheel from that era will oxidize without care.

Anyway, these new ones STL as well as CR and ST in smaller sizes for the classic cars, are made now with newer materials, and techniques on modern CNC in Japan, and as such, should be more resistant to premature fading of the coatings and surfaces.

Trying to work with Mr.Hayashi about the MSRP on these and other US bound wheels. Don't expect them to be drastically less expensive but trying to find a reasonable compromise with them as we speak... So the MSRP is to be determined for the USA/Global markets at this time. The new distribution will be direct, and prices are expected to be more reasonable than before. (realistically...but not competing with replicas or other economy wheels however... :) )

meWant 02-04-2013 04:59 PM

these wheels are not my cup of tea, but they do look good on the car  although i wouldn't put them on the car personally, not my taste, nice wheels
