Bespoke dvd hack?

Any dvd hacks for bespoke? I tried searching and found nothing. Taking a long trip in may and would be nice if the wife could watch movies while I drove, keep her quiet

What is a DVD?

Gixxersixxerman 04-17-2013 05:06 AM

I seen a back up cam running off bespoke radio, if it can take the video input off a backup cam, then it can take the video off any device that has a RCA output for video.. I'm going to dig into this tomorrow and see what I can find..

A backup cam and dvd are two completely different interfaces. why would you go through that much trouble to display a dvd?

If you hacked the backup cam interface to display video from a dvd player, then you still have to use the dvd player to control it and run the audio to the aux in. As well as rig up a switch so it thought you were in reverse. You have the added cost of the stuff to do it plus of another dvd player, when all you had to do was change the head unit.

well i personally moved into 2006 and away from DVD's along time ago.. i have gigs and gigs of digital media on my computer that can easy be displayed from my laptop, iphone, or ipad. through what looks to be beat sonics adaptor. dont quote me yet as i sent a pm. so i can watch my digital stuff through say my iphone and yes id have to wire up a switch, but something that just takes minutes for me. also with a splitter and some diodes i could run both the back up cam and a digital video out put

Yeah, I'm not sure why everyone thinks we MUST be using a DVD to watch video. We can definitely hook up a mobile device via RCA and get this thing working. It's just a matter of who's going to try it first and knows what they are doing.

The thread is about dvd not video in.

If you wanted to use the reverse cam input then yes, you could use composite video out into that. Then use a rca to 3.5mm adapter for sound and gixxer said, and have a switch to toggle it.

It's already been pointed out that DVDs cannot be used due to lack of hardware. Let's move on and figure something else out for video so we can all enjoy the mistake we made buying the bespoke head unit.

brianlo622 04-17-2013 08:37 PM

1.) Sell the Bespoke (I sold mine for a little under $400 last year)
2.) Pick up a decent DVD receiver (I got a Pinoneer AVH-X5500BHS for about $400, there are cheaper ones out there)

3.) Enjoy the bigger screen and more power to your stock speakers from the new dvd receiver, and of course the DVD/USB video playback capability.

Same thing I did as well. The reason no one has done it is because its not really worth the time over just selling the bespoke and buying another unit.

That works of course.. If everyone finds the guy that wants the bespoke.. Or if you want a aftermarket radio.. I personally just dropped $$ for the new pioneer avic-x950bh.. But if it wasn't so much a deal.. Read cheaper then what pioneer even pays out of pocket for them, then I'd be running a 60$ adaptor and be happy with that.. I'll still keep the bespoke for trade in value...

But you can't beat a 60$ part to have on screen video on the factory head unit.. For less then 10 mins of work??

brianlo622 04-18-2013 06:16 PM

finding that bespoke buyer is more or less a hit or miss affair.. its always about supply and demand.. there will always be people who wants to keep everything "oem" (although I really dont consider the pioneer bespoke an OEM radio with the exception that it reuses all factory harnesses without adapters).

Problem is setting a "price" to sell that bespoke.. what is a fair price? If your potential buyer feels that "I could just pay $300 for a simple aftermarket 6.1" screen dvd receiver", then he would not be willing to pay more than $300 for the "factory" unit with less feature. I would only imagine that the "value" of the bespoke will only fall overtime, so to those who are planning to sell, better act quick :)

Or you guys can have both a backup camera AND whatever sort of RCA input (dvd, console, phone display mirroring if your phone has MHL support, etc.) if you wanna get creative. Feel free to use an idea like mine, found here:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31431

I have the beatsonic harness adapter (good quality, not needed though), and backup camera. I just have to figure out exactly what kind of extra video input I actually want to use my idea for, then it'll be a simple matter of wiring it up (basically you just need 3x 12vdc DPDT relays, some wire, and creativity, and you're golden).

As far as switches go, I thought it'd be neat to use the area where the seat-warmer buttons WOULD have gone (or are, if you have a BRZ) to mount the two toggles (if you want to have dual inputs and an "auto" mode like my idea. A cooler idea would be to get someone who makes those center-console "plaques" to make you one with the 86 Piston logo embossed/etched, and also cut in a space for two small toggle switches.
