Nsx for brz?
Hi all, i currently own an nsx, but have been very interested in a brz. Ive heard and read good things about the frs/brz. However, i havent had any opportunity to drive one yet. For those of you who are owners what do you guys think? Yes, i know the nsx is a classic, but its still an old car :happy0180:
|
Give me the nsx and I give u my frs nuff said
|
dont trade it for an frs. trade it for a brz limited. the inside of the frs looks older than ur nsx.
|
if you are comfortable with the cost of ownership of the nsx, keep it. if you are looking for a new car and all the perks of new cars, switch. but honestly, keep the nsx.
|
I'm curious what kinda NSX you have because i would never trade my nsx for a frs.
|
I'd keep the nsex
|
Completely different cars and driving experiences. Do you want something different than what the NSX offers?
|
My nsx is in my avatar. It just so happened that a brz parked right next to me lol
|
I'm also curious in Dave's question. What's attracting you to the BRZ? Is there something the NSX is missing? If I had an NSX, I probably wouldn't let it go for a BRZ.
|
I love the nsx, love how it drives. But it just feel old sometimes. For some reason it feel bigger then what it is. Drove my friend s2k and was amaze by how small and agile it feel. However, i dont really like soft top convertible. After checking out the brz that parked nect to me, im really liking it. I would love to test drive one, but i can never find one near me.
|
Clearly, someone doesn't appreciate NSX. Someone else can DEFINITELY benefit from this.

One day, the twins will have legendary status. And people will be saying "keep the BRZ/FRS"...

If we always buy the same car based on our previous one we owned, were living pretty boring lives as car guys. Its always good to search for new experiences, change makes life feel longer and richer (to a sense). Its like the guy with the Hemi Cuda' down the block, he sold it and bought a 911. Everyone thinks hes nuts, buts hes loving the 911 and he loved his Hemi Cuda' as well. If possible, i'd keep both cars. But if your looking for a change, then the twins are the way to go. Not very similar cars at all. |
Thanks demoon. Again i love the nsx. It just doesnt feel as nimble to me. And from what ive read the twin are. I just want an honest opinion from real owners.
|
Not everybody can or really wants to hold onto certain prized possessions forever. Especially when there is or will be significant maintenance ongoing. Sometimes you just want to move on. I sold 4 beautiful restored/mint pinball machines from my collection to help fund my summer car.
Time to inject some excitement through change. |

Those two tend to be the main competition for the twins. (Along with the Miata and Mustang...) |
if ur looking for a good handling car look no further man the steering is sharp and precise when u move th steering wheel the car moves at the exact same phase if ur looking for agility the brz is the way to go...now if ur in a red light and a douch revs his engine and hes got like a camaro ur fucked so its up to u
|
I would let you drive my BRZ if i could drive the nsx that car is way too sweet
|
i would keep the NSX... its an exotic IMO
try to find a way to keep the NSX and buy a frs/brz |
My uncle had an nsx for a few years and that was the first manual car and the first sports car I ever drove. To this day, it's still a goal of mine to get one of my own. The twins are great cars and if you want a change in driving experience, it'll definitely keep you satisfied.
But in my opinion, I'd keep the nsx no question. To be honest it is just an all around awesome car that I think you will miss. |

Anyway, to answer the OP's question. The NSX is probably the last supercar from Japan with a petrol engine and stick shift with clutch pedal. After you let it go and start to miss it (and you WILL miss it) it will be hard to get back. The BRZ, however, will be readily available for the next decade or more. People who are saying to keep the NSX own a BRZ. That's funny because a used NSX can be had for the price of a new BRZ. Makes me wonder... why didn't they get an NSX instead?! lol I'd been looking at NSXs through the years and thought about finally getting one last year. But I wanted something with modern tech (best feature I've had prior was an aftermarket MP3/CD player) and safety features (to increase chances of staying alive). And I turned down the Elise (didn't want another 2ZZ-GE with RPMs that need to be raced to appreciate) and C6 (didn't seem that special) for a BRZ also because it's best to buy at the flog-free mileage of 0 - especially for sports cars (based on my used sports car buying experience). When the BRZ launched, the stars aligned, and it answered all my concerns. If you've already seen this, watch it again: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLJ2lw0bCkk"]Lexus LFA vs Acura NSX! - Head 2 Head Episode 13 - YouTube[/ame] |
you would be a fool to trade in that car! hold on to it for as long as you can!

I have a BRZ, and would be willing to trade a drive. :) |
I actually cross shopped for a used NSX before buying the BRZ and honestly I would rather have a NSX BUT to find a NSX that is unmolested and in good condition... they go for north of over 50k and that is much more than a BRZ. I did find one for 20k but it was really really beat up... The rest weren't worth the price that was marketed because they were in bad condition also.

Keep the NSX,
I still want one after all these years... one day! |

It just sounds like you're bored w/ the NSX. That's hard to overcome, no matter how awesome the car is...
That being said, even though the Twins are fun to drive--you'll miss the power/speed & that wonderful wail over your shoulder. |
I can see where u are coming from. U love the NSX, but it is definitely an old car.
I love my old car, not NSX quality, but I won't give it up even though I thought about it before I got my BRZ. If possible, I would say keep the NSX and get a FRS. I say FRS over BRZ since it is cheaper and u can use the extra money to either maintain the NSX or mod the FRS. Since my car was pretty much super base, I opted for BRZ Limited, with it being my first truly new car. But when I got into my Civic, it was like an old friend and I miss the days I entered it into shows. |
Kinda going out on a limb here...OP are you planning for a new car now or the near future? The NSX is a beast and although dated still state of the art for its time. Now sure how much you have in your piggy bank, but the revamped NSX is slated to to drop in 2 years as a 2015 model. The set-up it out of this world with a hybrid transmission.
Now if you dont have $130k laying around or dont want to wait, the twins are a great choice for a thrilling ride...whether on the track or just getting milk. If you want a ready-out-of-the-box daily driver I would go with the BRZ Limited. However if your piggy bank is not as loaded as one would dream or you are into customizing your ride, FR-S is the way to go. Either way you look at your possible new car buying experience, do you research and test out all your options. Biased or not, you cannot really go wrong with the twins. |
I for one will go against the grain and say it's great for the OP to experience a newer and different car with less maintenance.
And, it's good that it will put the NSX out there so someone else can get to experience it. In fact, with the NSX I would expect many of them to have had quite a few owners in their service lives. Most people that can pay for the ownership are not necessarily in the position to just bury it and go on to the next one and the one after. That is reserved for those with the space/desire/funds/willingness to collect. Only an idealist would advise just anybody to hang onto the car indefinitely. |
nsx has more street cred...enough said

I can totally understand where the op is coming from. I've said it many times: so many cars, so little time. I don't regret the day I sold my 911 and bought a Miata. I especially don't regret the day I sold the Miata and bought my FR-S; brand new with a full warranty, exciting to drive and perhaps the wisest car purchase I have ever made.
OP, you won't regret it. The FR-S is truly a marvel to drive and the best bang for the buck there is. :burnrubber: |
When deciding how to spend 30K on a car I looked at higher mileage (60-80K) 91' NSXs. I've basically grown up with Hondas from that era my entire life and it was always the jewel I could never afford.
After driving the NSX I realized that it couldn't ever fit my requirement as a daily. Although awesome, the BRZ/FRS is just a much more practical car. I think an NSX would make a great 2nd car for a Honda-head. I also feel that I could push my BRZ harder on track than I would push an NSX if I had one. Although attached, ruining an NSX would crush me, where as ruining my BRZ would mean I would just get another one or something else. I think you should drive them back to back. Just drive to a Subaru dealership in your NSX and I'm sure you'll get a ride. |
I almost picked up a NSX last year. Such a great car with so many well-engineered components.
My guess is if you drive a NSX you will really enjoy the BRZ. It's not going to wow you with power but it's a great chassis and is just a blast to drive. Relative to the NSX, it will feel a little lighter and obviously you get a more modern set up. I wish they continued making the NSX, it's such a great car, I hope I can pick one up at some point, it truly is a special car. The BRZ is a great car you can live with and have a ton of fun, but not quite the same curb appeal. |
Why not get something more expensive? Porsche Cayman S perhaps or even a Boxster S if you want a convertible. Kinda strange hearing someone asking opinions about downsizing.
I'd figure someone who's owned a NSX would want something comparable in price or catergory (i.e. Corvette, Porsche, GTR, etc.). Or better yet, just buy the FRS/BRZ out right as a second car. Then again I don't know your financial situation. |
NSX is a super car. Keep it.
|
I agree keep the NSX, garage it or something for a nice weekend car. Go get a BRZ (or FRS if you fancy the looks more) and daily drive that. I would love to own an NSX but it would be a show car more than anything.
