Ultramarine vs. Raven vs. Asphalt
i've been having a hard time deciding which color is my favorite, and since i'm planning on buying an FR-S in a few months, i'd like to finally sort it out. My top three are raven, ultramarine, and asphalt. i haven't been able to see an asphalt in person, but i've seen the other two and it's hard to decide. I was hoping some of you guys would be able to post some pictures of your cars. If anyone has a shot with all three colors that'd be great. thanks

Asphalt's the best! (might be biased ;))
|
this was my problem when i got mine. i wanted an asphalt. second choice raven, third was ultramarine. i ended up with an ultramarine and am more than happy with my choice
|
I have an ultramarine and really like it.
My top choices were Ultramarine and Asphalt. I'm happy with my choice. |
i think asphalt looks amazing in RL.

I have an asphalt. I love it. But then I saw an ultramarine... Car looks good in any color.
|
I'm am of course bias towards Asphalt.
It looks awesome in the sun during the day for sure. It can sometimes look dull in pictures and everything but it also sticks out slightly at night because of it's just not the black you expect when you get up close. I almost went with Ultramarine, I only didn't because my last passenger car was Blue |
Every car looks its sharpest in Black. Its a pain in the ass to maintain though.
|
I have ultramarine but raven is better if you plan on doing matching interior pieces or any kind of customrims there's just more colors that go with it rather than ultramarine. And I think the black and red interior looks better on raven than ultramarine
|
Ultramarine 1st, then Asphalt, then Raven. JMO.

Asphalt looks pretty awesome. I don't regret getting it over whiteout and ultramarine. |
Asphalt looks way better in person. Before I got mine I thought it looked too purplish. After I saw it in person it's more of a nice dark gray that looks even better as the sun starts to go down.
I work at a Nissan dealership and all the salesman commented on how nice the paint was. Boss wasn't too happy though. http://i47.tinypic.com/2l92qmq.jpg |
I really dont like ultramarine. Asphalt is all right, but it doesnt do well in pictures and eventually I found that I like Raven better when side by side with an Asphalt one. They are right though..its a pain to keep clean.
|
i appreciate all the responses. i feel like i'm leaning towards black. it just looks meaner. i think i like raven just because i haven't actually seen one yet, so it's still kind of a mystery.
|
When I bought mine I was looking for the ultramarine, and then saw the raven and instantly knew it was the one! That being said they, they look awesome in any color!
|
What I told both Toyota and Subaru dealerships I can deal with any color except red, black, and auto. They both had cars coming in that month that said. So then I ask, who is calling me first then? Toyota did. Ultramarine here and never looked back. This car looks great in any color - just choose the one that will irritate you less.

I think Red and Ultramarine makes the car look like a womans ride

Whiteout lol

My first choice was Ultramarine, because I wanted my Celica in that color. My second choice was Whiteout, because my Celica ended up being that color and I was already missing her. Asphalt was my third choice, because it's not quite black and it's subtle enough to not be stand-out-flashy, but enough to be eye catching and invite second looks. My dealer was getting nothing but Firestorms and Argentos for a while, but they let me peek at the incoming shipment lists to see the specs on the two 'black' ones that were incoming. Guy almost freaked out when I told him he'd ordered dark grey ones instead of the Ravens he should have ordered, but I told him I'd drop by to see them when they came in. I'd seen Ultramarines and Whiteouts in person already but not Asphalt, and I was ready to be disappointed and continue waiting. When I stopped by a week later they'd just finished dressing the second one for the showroom. The first one was going to be their AT test driver but someone'd bought it earlier that day. They pulled her out front for me to see before slotting her into the showroom. Fifteen minutes later I was signing papers while they scrambled to dress a new showroom car. To really appreciate Asphalt, you really have to see the color in person. Walk around her from a few paces back and see how the light catches her, how she shows you a new face from every angle. Get up close and see how the metallic flake sparkles just under the surface. It's kind of a neutral color - it picks up a shade of whatever ambient light is around but at the same time subtly enhances the body lines because you can really see where the different shades of light show up on her curves. I still think Ultramarine is an absolutely beautiful color and Whiteout gives that super clean look, but I was caught off guard at Asphalt's appeal and I don't regret it at all. |
since i like raven too much to share i would recommend one of the other colors. Ultramarine is pretty rare for the frs. but asphalt looks pretty fantastic.
a down side to raven is how bad imperfections appear. the stupid grunts at my dealer wiped it with a bad towel after my service trip and now the hood is all swirled and even 2 light scratches. very noticeable in the sun |

In stock form, Ultramarine would be my 3rd pick. But when black wheels and/or aero are added, they look most sinister on Ultramarine.

So why don't you just call these colours, black, grey and blue . . . ? Isn't it just easier or is it just me . . ?
|
Of the three you are thinking, I'd personally choose Asphalt.
Ultramarine was the first color I ever saw this car in and I thought it looked fantastic (I didn't expect to like it at all - dark blue isn't my favorite color). Black is what it is. It does look sharp - if you're someone that likes detailing your ride every three days. :D I like the depth of Asphalt most of all. I wound up with a White-out which I love. I was originally holding out for Argento - I did NOT want another white car. But once I saw the White-out in person I was hooked. Again, it's the depth of the paint that really makes the difference. |
I chose ultramarine cuz I like blue cars. Ultramarine isn't my favorite blue though. I would've preferred WRB on the BRZ if it wasn't so hard to get one. I saw asphalt once in person and was impressed by it. Whiteout and asphalt probably would've been my #2 picks.

Well I'm in the same debate as you but what I'm thinking is take which ever colour is in stock and if you don't like it down the road you can always get it wrapped and with the wrap you can go nuts if you want and get neon matte orange if you want and the joy is its all removable
But if I had to choose from all the pics I have seen I'd say ultramarine because it seems to be less common and if you get some black rims on it or the trd xb2 19's I think it would look great if they are the right bolt pattern I have not seen any on have them on an frs or brz http://scionowners.com/html/images/a...matteblack.jpg |

Ironic to say, Whiteout is still sexy and was actually my first choice till I saw the raven :bonk: |
All great but I chose Asphalt because it looks the best to me and I feel like its more unique compared to the others. One great thing about Asphalt is small swirls and scratches are difficult to see because of the scattered metallic shiny coat of the paint.

I have seen every color except Ultramarine in person (which is ironic since that was my first choice). I got my Firestorm back of June last year, so it was more or less a choice because "they had a car on the lot." Granted, I don't regret it, I did fall in love with the red right when I saw it.
As many have said, the car really does look AMAZING in every color. I'm really picky, so on second thought I am glad I got the Firestorm over Ultramarine because of the way the interior trim is red/orange. It would clash otherwise, but that's a personal choice (and can be modded anyways). The colors really do look way better in person, pictures do not capture them properly. I will try to describe how I feel about each color (all favorable in their own right): Asphalt: Really unique "almost" black color. Between the shade of color and metallic texture it looks great. It has a very subtle deep purple glimmer to it when in the right light (think grape soda). Seems like it would be a lot easier to keep looking clean than your standard jet black. Great color for when you want black but also something a little different than other cars. Whiteout: The pearlescent texture of this white is really amazing. It's up there as one of my favorite colors, looks even sexier with the BRZ or TRD spoiler. Definitely not a "standard" white, looks more similar to the pearl color of a 350/370Z. Raven: Black. What else more is there to say? If you want the traditional black, this is your color! As usual, a pain to keep looking clean but sexy as hell when she is! Hot Lava: Very dynamic color depending on lighting. In direct sunlight it looks quite orange and pops. In lower light/night time it looks subdued and less vibrant (in a good way). Also a metallic color, guaranteed to make you stand out in the daytime. Firestorm Red: The poster-child color, a very bright red. If you were to line up a "red" car from most manufacturers, the 86 would stand out still. It's a great red, especially when clean. Matches the interior trim the best as well. Think BMW's M3 red and that's pretty close. Argento Silver: One of the more subdued colors but the curves of the car really make it look great still. Probably the easiest color to keep it looking clean as well. Not a bad color by any means, just very neutral and low-key compared to the rest of the lineup. |
