BRZ :(

So last Wed I took my BRZ to Bob Baker Subaru to get my new fuel pump installed. Took the dealer 2 hours to install it which wasn't bad. Drove it around that night. On my way home that night my car was acting funny and wouldn't get into gear correctly. Next thing I know I was smelling gas inside my car and when I came to a stop light, flames were coming up out of the hood of my car.

Its been a week since this happened and I'm still not getting any information from the dealership about anything. All I've heard was that Subaru was supposed to send someone out to look at it and nothing else.

This is what was left of my car.

I'm really sorry that happened to you. That's beyond craziness. I hope you get down to the bottom of it.

dsgerbc 01-26-2013 11:09 PM

Jeez, the odds I'd rather live with crickets just went up.
Good luck getting this sorted.

merlin2111 01-26-2013 11:09 PM

Damn.

SkAsphalt 01-26-2013 11:11 PM

man good thing are you ok! Jesus that is scary.

SkAsphalt 01-26-2013 11:12 PM

It really sounds like a bad install, dealership could be very liable here.

Mo707 01-26-2013 11:13 PM

I smell a law suit?
Thats some serious stuff! I would be on there a** like white on rice.
I officially love my crickets... Just saying.

damn, that's sad !
hope they'll replace it with a new one

luxmn 01-26-2013 11:22 PM

Wow. I thought Ferrari already copyrighted fiery death...

You have every chance of getting a new car back and one hell of a story to tell. I'm glad you're ok to enjoy that. Maybe even some monetary compensation on top from the dealer for your trouble and drama. Good luck.

Asphaltfrs1 01-26-2013 11:25 PM

Oh man that's scary, glad you are okay. This is a serious law suit if it's a dealer install error.

wbradley 01-26-2013 11:27 PM

Good chance (not guarantee) that the fuel line connections were done incorrectly during the fuel pump swap.

What a damn waste! At least crashed cars can be parted out to some extent.

Khazzy 01-26-2013 11:32 PM

glad you are okay man. What a freak accident!

Ryan1JZ 01-26-2013 11:32 PM

Jaylyons1 01-26-2013 11:42 PM

Dude, wtf. Someone had better answer for that. Seems too close to be coincidental. Sorry to see it.

70NYD 01-27-2013 12:08 AM

Oh shit I'm glad your ok man :(
Sorry about the car, they need to give you a new one, this is their fault

nzer 01-27-2013 12:12 AM

Sounds like they stuffed up big time! Glad you're safe and hope you get a new car out of it

Had a friend that had his car serviced and fuel lead was not corrected correctly and sprayed fuel all over the engine before igniting. Had him and his whole family in the car and luckily they all got out safely. End result same as yours - burnt out car. Sounds like they have done a similar thing on yours.

mact 01-27-2013 12:13 AM

Hope the dealer mans up and gets you a new car.

Couldn't think of a more fitting video. Just trying to keep things light. Sorry for your loss. :(

86BRZ 01-27-2013 12:26 AM

Oh boy. Sorry to hear that. Either warranty or dealer's bad shall have you covered. I guess I will keep my pump noise for a while.

alan.chalkley 01-27-2013 12:29 AM

Wow - If this happened to me , my lawyer would be investigating my compensation options immediately.

tech4pdx 01-27-2013 12:33 AM

If you have not yet contacted an attorney, secure one ASAP. Do not post anything more about this incident. Follow your attorney's instruction.

On another note, this is PRECISELY why I NEVER take my car to dealerships, even new.

Hope the OP didn't mod the car otherwise Subaru might find loopholes to not give him a new car.

ST185RC 01-27-2013 12:38 AM

Holy crap, that is magnitudes worse than the car fire my 92 GT-Four experienced. I guess when they make these cars light and not much insulation there's no stopping flames. I remember when it happened to me, a splush sound, followed by the same kinds of things OP described. Worse feeling in the world when your pride and joy is going up in smoke. I know that feel bro.

Geez man glad your okay but contact an attorney right away!

Unlikely.

russv 01-27-2013 12:45 AM

Keep us informed as to what Subaru or your insurance company does. Had my fuel pump replaced 2 weeks ago, smelled gas for a little while but went away. I was worried about catching on fire too.

speedy07 01-27-2013 12:51 AM

holy fucking shit :eyebulge: ..... keep us updated!

Jayde 01-27-2013 02:51 AM

Holy fuck...

At least you're ok!

Longhorn248 01-27-2013 03:09 AM

Holy shit dude, glad you're okay! Hopefully you get a new car after the dealership royally fucked up.

donutfilling 01-27-2013 03:09 AM

Hopefully Subaru does something soon as they should.

kchkwan 01-27-2013 03:28 AM
