Rev Works - Asphalt FR-S With Rota Grids and BC Coilovers

Just finished installing and setting up an FR-S for our customer Matt @greenguy101, and figured we'd share.

The car came in with a set of Rota Grids in 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 Rear. Factory height just wasn't cutting it and was in need of an adjustment in the form of some BC Racing Coilovers! So we got to work, getting this car to sit pretty for her owner. Matt is an awesome guy and gave us a bit of input as to what he wanted, then he let us run with the ball, having full confidence in our abilities!

With the addition of the new coilovers, we were able to get the ride height exactly where Matt wanted it, and it really helped get the look of his car spot on. The ride quality from the short test drive we went on was great. The car felt much more planted and with the adjustable dampening, it didn't give the feeling of driving on a set of track coilovers, and was very good for a street car. The color combination of these wheels and color of the car, along with the new coilovers, really made this FR-S Stand out!

Here at Rev Works, we anti seize every set of coilovers before installation. This helps prevent issues with adjustment later on down the road. Just one extra step we take, at no charge, when doing an install that most other shops dont.

Nice post with before and after pictures. What are the et's of the wheels, the dimensions of the tires and is there any rubbing? what camber angles did you choose to go with?

SC David 01-23-2013 06:39 PM

Said it in another thread, but this car is perfect. Wouldn't change a thing. Nice work!

The wheels are 18x8.5/ 44 offset up front. 18x9.5/ 38 offset in the rear. I have 225/40 on the front and 255/35 in the rear. So far there hasn't been any rubbing at all. If I hit a decent size dip at speed than I get a quick rub against the inner fender liner but nothing serious. They adjusted the camber for me so I can't speak on the angle. Overall I would suggest this setup to anyone who is looking for an entry level coilover system.

Just out of sheer curiosity, did you or the owner of the car manage to weigh the wheels and/or the coilovers compared to the stock equipment? Those grids look absolutely stellar on there, but I'm wondering if they're a ton heavier than stock?

Hey buddy,we did not get the chance the weigh the stock suspension, but I believe they are a bit lighter. As for the wheels, the owner might be able to chime in as they were on the car when it came in for the install.

Hey guys, the stock wheels are about 20lbs without tires. The front ROTA's are about 21 lbs and the rears are around 24 lbs. So they are more for daily driving than serious track use.

even on serious track use, with a 1-3lbs different you're not going to notice much.

they are more in the 23lbs territory I believe too.

did you have to do anything else suspension wise camber bolts or control arms or anything else to make it all fit

No we did not. However, we would recommend some adjustable rear control arms, as the car from factory does not have very much camber adjustment so using an adjustable arm would really help to get that dialed in perfectly.

Mikegraves777 04-23-2013 01:38 PM

would camber bolts be enough or no

From past experience, typically not, but it also depends how far off the numbers are to begin with.
