side foam window peeling..

not sure if this is the right place to post this but move to right place

but yeah this side foam window guard thing is like peeling or breaking off easy just noticed it and another little piece is starting to come off and i just pushed it back in.. is there something i can put to help it not crack over time like a armorall?

seems like this wont last long after a while..should be part of a warranty replacement :iono:

Should be a warranty item. Hit the dealer.

Ocala FR-S 01-19-2013 02:18 PM

That looks like wear and tear. I wouldn't expect they'll replace it. Put some silicone rubber protectant on there before it gets worse.

CTB727 01-19-2013 02:21 PM

Please don't use ArmorAll on that. It'll dry out and ruin the material faster. Use this to condition it instead:

Ah thanks.. Yeah not digging this cheap foam thing..should of been a better material

kthxbai 01-19-2013 08:07 PM

@marky didn't you just get your car less than 2-3 weeks ago? I would understand the dealership not replacing this part under normal wear and tear, but isn't it a bit odd that this foam is tearing already in such a short time?

Yeah.. That foam thing is very easy to rip..seems like it will decay from the sun after a while..should of been a rubber not a foam like...

Geez, now you made me go out to my garage and have a look. It sure is some cheap stuff. At least it's lightweight and every little bit counts for that goal. I see the wear already on my driver's side. Appears to be from the window sliding closed one inch every time the door closes. It seems to be such a lightweight and porous foam, now I'm not sure what I would put on it if anything.

CircuitJerk 01-20-2013 01:36 AM

Not sure what you're pointing out with that pic. I see a tiny gouge which is not peeling, looks more like something got snagged.
The other part above that that has a mottled appearance looks like a defect in the forming process at the factory. I've seen these defects before but thats definitely not the best place to have that....

EBMCS03 01-20-2013 02:50 AM

I've had my at for 3 weeks and it looks like that in the pic (the top part where the window rubs against it). horribly cheap. it def wont hold up long I hope they'll replace it under warranty with a better MY2014 part when it comes out

yeah should be like a hard plastic like on the front side next to the little window on the front.. not digging this foam

yeah not feeling it..seems like a thing for someone to look at and try to break into it with a metal coat hanger... this can be ripped off easy with bare hand..

FRSupra 01-20-2013 11:31 PM

same issue here, just not as worse, and I take care to every part of the car.

You're not alone

EK_Golfer 01-21-2013 01:13 AM

My FRS is starting to show the same wear in those "foam" parts. I purchased the car only 3 weeks ago.

EBMCS03 01-21-2013 01:18 AM

Does the BRZ use the same foam?

yeah my driver side is a bit better looking then right side.. i just have this little chunk some how come off..theres another little chunk on top/bottom of that hole chunk..i just put a pin drop of super glue to hold it down.. going to put a rubber silicone thing on and patch that hole

not sure why they made it out of foam instead of a rubber base that im sure it will last way longer..i think this has to be the cheapest part of the car..

plasti dip it anyone? will that hurt the foam ?

going to grab some after work tomorrow need to do my rims might test it out and see.

Don't waste your time. It'll just "cover up" the problem like sweeping it under a rug. Sooner or later, it'll get worse.

chenshuo 01-21-2013 10:18 AM

does this happen to BRZ owners?

yes.

marky 01-21-2013 02:03 PM

Yeah im having second thoughts on applying dip on it.. might damage it when I peel it off..ill just leave it alone and be careful of it not making it worse ..

DaJo 01-21-2013 02:26 PM

Only reason I could think of in regards to why they don't use "rubber" is because of the friction and the sound it'll create when opening and closing the frameless windows.

As for that gouge, it looks like one of your passengers accidently dug their nail into it while trying to open the door by the window?

I believe the front of the window has a rubber thing next to the small little window..yeah might make sound or rub against it causing damage to the electric motor.. but it could of been made with a more durable material not a cheap foam..

EK_Golfer 01-21-2013 07:39 PM

I checked other cars such as my brother's 2000 Lexus ES, it also uses a foam material on the inside of the door frame just like the FRS, so it looks like Toyota has used this material before. Not sure if this make us feel any better but it's good to know it's not the first time they've used it.
