SAC Unichip Mod

Hi Everyone,
After having emailed almost every reputable tuning house in the country, SAC's came back to me with some positive news. they have been developing the unichip maps and is now available.
:respekt:

i have spoken to Heinrich who has told me he has already done a few, and he's got someone booked for wednesday next week, he will send through the dyno's when he's done.

my question is, who's got it done already?

when i asked about power gains he sent me a pdf from the USA, the guys there got 217.9hp OTF, with no other mods.

what do you guys think? and who's booked for wednesday?

Ryan86 01-17-2013 07:14 AM

There must be some miscommunication, somewhere. 3 weeks ago I went into SAC and they advised still under development and expect to release this mid 2013.
Will go past again and check, and lets see who comes forward????

Afzal 01-17-2013 07:24 AM

this is from the kyalami branch.

JouMaSeHoes 01-17-2013 07:24 AM

It would be interesting to see how the chip + remus work...

Ryan86 01-17-2013 07:27 AM

Confirmed you are correct, the chip is still under development, however SAC are fitting to the 86 already. Claim with OEM exhaust 8kw additional on Dyno. With a new exhaust system 15kw.
Roughly R4500 installation with Dyno before and after printout.
Going to try this with the intake and works DIF, hopefully get some good response.

Afzal 01-17-2013 07:38 AM

Ryan 4500? i got a quote for 6500.

Ryan86 01-17-2013 07:46 AM

Yes R4500 for the chip. Just called me back quoted full performance exhaust Viper R5700. From end manifold to rear.

Naughty 01-17-2013 07:48 AM

Has anyone contacted dastek directly about this?

:eyebulge:
Lol

I gonna delete that post now...... ok ok, i will email them.

2 things
1) I wouldn't go unichip
2) I hear the ecu can be flashed

Afzal 01-17-2013 08:10 AM

dont want to flash the ecu, leaves a trail which the manufacturer can track unichip can be pulled out before a service. wont affect warrantee

Crewzern 01-17-2013 08:10 AM

SAC....no comment.

IMO....The only way to judge if any performance mods done on the 86 works is to get a baseline on an independent dyno and dyno again on that same dyno when the mod is done to see the difference.

Dyno's vary and can also be manipulated.

which branch quoted you 4500? got their details?

Afzal 01-21-2013 01:58 AM

guys again, i have found out about the differences between the 4500 and 6500 install, please see below in his own words
"R 6 500 is for the plug n play ( removable) version, R 4 500 is for wiring the chip into the cars harness ."

i definitely would pay the extra for the plug and play unit. let me rephrase that, i am definitely going to pay the extra.

JouMaSeHoes 01-21-2013 03:26 AM

Hi Afzal, I got a quote for R5500 for the removable version. My guys also recommended that I go with the Remus :D rather than some of the local exhausts.

How are you enjoying the Remus? Would it be possible to put the standard tips on the Remus?

Interesting how each dealer has different prices and recommendations.
I was advised to have the unit installed and hidden away non removable, as Toyota would pick up through there system that a chip was installed and removed, where as the fixed unit won't be picked up or found.
Whether this is factual I would not know or would not ask my dealership, in the event I create suspicion....

Afzal 01-21-2013 08:09 AM

from what i understand about the unit, and i have spent most of the weekend reading up on it: it plugs in to maybe 3 places, and does not leave any trace on the existing ECU unlike a flash, which does.

i will let you know when its done, should be done next week sometime. still waiting on my K&N to arrive before i make the appointment.

the Remus is great, love the sound that comes out now, and im sure you can weld on the original tips, that said, i like new ones.

Mike Hoxbig 02-07-2013 05:53 PM

Any feedback on which option is not detectable by the dealer?

Ryan86 02-08-2013 02:46 AM

Just for info purposes.
The unit which is able to be removed before servicing will register on the ECU, which Toyota are able to pick up a chip was used and removed.
The chip that is installed and hidden well, will not be detected.
The above recommendations given by a reliable source. Factual or not I have no clue....
I have also just read an thread whereby a guy installed a aftermarket rear tail exhaust, some problems occurred with the car stalling or something, Toyota made his warranty null and void due to after market exhaust.

The risks you take

Mike Hoxbig 02-08-2013 03:01 AM

A chip is the most I'd consider. Anything else is too obvious and easily detectable. I'm perfectly happy with the power output, but would just like a little more grunt in the mid range :)

GavinAnt 02-09-2013 12:19 AM

SAC are offering the "Unichip" which is getting good ratings elsewhere on this forum (also see http://www.unichip.us/259-project-frs). I contacted SAC and am getting good responses :thanks::

"Hi Gavin, I would have to confirm the price on the intake. You should see about 20 Hp with an intake and plug n play.

The plug n play is R 5 900.00 including fitment and tuning...

What intake is this?

GavinAnt 02-09-2013 02:35 AM

Sorry :bonk:, should have said - Injen. I asked which gives best results as there are so many alternatives out there...

leoz1412 02-09-2013 03:24 AM

will intake not affect warantee?

GavinAnt 02-10-2013 12:17 PM

Investigating doesn't mean buying! I'll do first 15000km and then decide if I need more power - at reef altitude, I might after 155kw turbo GTI....

Thanks Question is, did SAC try all of the alternatives? I'm always skeptical when it comes to these things and this case is no exception - 20HP from an intake and tune seems a bit optimistic.

hi All,

Purchased an auto in October and have been floating about the forums for a while. Was looking for a mod that would not void the warranty and best bang for your buck and it would seem that chipping (plug n play) was the way to go. Installed the plug n play chip from SAC Kyalami. Here are the results below .... results are on the flywheel ....

I have no modding experience ever ... this is my first sports car ... with that said please advise/comment on the dyno graph attached

Overall do feel a difference in acceleration and happy with the mod

Mike Hoxbig 02-11-2013 06:16 AM

That's a decent power gain, but torque still looks to be lacking a bit in the midrange though.

Crewzern 02-11-2013 07:51 AM

Is Test2 your stock run ?

v3rgil 02-12-2013 12:18 AM

very decent power gain, with or without standard air filter?

Innova 02-12-2013 12:31 AM

I've had it on my car for a couple of months. Love it, very easy to install, looks good and has made the care noticeably more agressive. Highly recommended

Razzle 02-12-2013 04:05 AM

12kw... That's a decent increase.
I'm assuming there's no other modification done to the car.
Exhaust and filter should up you at least another 5-7kw

Are you feeling adifference in throttle response with the chip?

Dark grey 02-12-2013 05:15 AM

Yes, test 2 is the stock run

No other modification is done except for the chip

There is an improvement in throttle response

thanks

sieglapj 02-12-2013 07:26 AM

I have to ask cost?

Dark grey 02-12-2013 08:31 AM

it cost R5900 but I suggest you speak to Heinrich ;)

The American site shows all the experimentation - see my earlier post. Great to see others verifying these figures!

Once I actually have my car and have run it in, I think I'll chip her....
