Texas state gathering/meet?

Hello fellow 86 owners!

What is everyone's thoughts on a state gathering/meet? @Do Boy and I have been throwing ideas for possible a state gathering for our cars. We were thinking using Harris Hill Raceway as the central gathering point. We figured that would be a somewhat central location that gives us track time and plenty of places to eat. Theres also plenty of hotels all around there. If there is enough interest, I will contact H2R for pricing and see if any hotels around there will give us special pricing. Time frame is still undecided but we were thinking maybe around the fall season. Maybe in September or October?

What is everyone's thoughts/opinions/ideas? We would love to have a state meet like the s2000 Homecoming or the Supra nationals!

I'd be down for a meet. Although, I'm not likely to miss an A&M home game if it were in Sept/Oct. But, that's just me.

The Slow One 01-15-2013 01:21 PM

It doesn't have to be in the fall. I would love it to be in the spring time frame but it conflicts with too many other events going on. I don't mind it being in the summer, but Texas summers are brutal. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated! :)

Labor day weekend?

5hairpins 01-15-2013 01:56 PM

I am definintely interested. I can deal with September, October is a tough month for me. To VenaSera, I am with you. We need to work around Aggie football!

Got3n 01-15-2013 01:59 PM

Ohhhhh sweet, count me in.

I'm in for Labor Day weekend

Do Boy 01-15-2013 09:44 PM

Talk to a couple of people on FB. Seems like labor day is a pretty good time.

asphalt86_915 01-15-2013 09:50 PM

I'm so down for this, but were Harris hills raceway? I'm in el Paso so I just want to know what part of Texas I'm heading for.

San marcos in between San Antonio and Austin.

asphalt86_915 01-15-2013 10:49 PM

Thank you now I'm stook I love that part of Texas

Do Boy 01-15-2013 11:05 PM

This meet should be pretty epic if we can get it going.

Rabble 01-15-2013 11:58 PM

If you get enough people then COTA is the place to go. That is, if the damn fee isn't astronomical.

That was talked about between Roger and I. Price might be a little high for most people thou. Not sure personally. Just getting and idea before we go ahead and talk any of the tracks about a track day.

g0lden 01-16-2013 12:17 AM

Labor Day weekend sounds like a good time.
I will make sure I have off :-)

cf6mech 01-16-2013 02:28 AM

I'm in.

5hairpins 01-16-2013 10:39 AM

I think COTA is going to be a stickler, no random drivers on the course. The Drivers Edge driving school is only able to take their top two levels of drivers out to COTA, no beginners.

zaptorque 01-16-2013 10:57 AM

I'm in Austin - so HH is not too far down 35 from me.

I'm pretty sure we are SOL for any COTA events this year. With that whole fiasco a month or so ago with the track rental and cancellations, I believe they are only honoring events that had already paid in full for the upcoming year and not taking new ones (that aren't major series racing).

Otherwise, I don't see why Labor Day wouldn't work for me too.

Got3n 01-16-2013 11:27 AM

can we get a Roll Call in the first post?

The Slow One 01-16-2013 12:07 PM

I will setup a roll call when I get home, its a little hard when I'm busy at work lol :)

BizzyV 01-16-2013 01:45 PM

No way COTA could happen.

Harris Hill would be a blast in our cars. And we could do Austin at night, and a cruise in the hill country would be nice. Labor day would be nice weather.

Also if you guys want to do a sub-meeting at the Supra Nationals, we could set that up too. They will be at TWS on Thursday and in Houston the rest of the weekend.

I think it's an awesome idea & I'd really like to attend, but Labor Day might be a tough sell with the woman. I have a feeling I might be in Dallas doing wedding planning stuff. Put me down as a maybe, I'm going to do my best. BTW - thanks for taking steps to make this happen!

It's been in the works for a while. Just couldn't seem to get enough members to buckle down. So we figured we would just post it up and see what the Forum has to say

ericvanderwoodsen 01-16-2013 08:21 PM

Do you guys roughly know about how many BRZ/FRS are in the state or near by?

Shneegle 01-17-2013 12:29 AM

This sounds awesome ill have to see what my schedule is like near labor day before I can commit. Definitely interested in this!!

FrX 01-17-2013 02:52 AM

Interested.

Boosted 01-17-2013 05:20 AM

I'm guessing there's roughly 80 +/- BRZ/FRS in the San Antonio metro area. Maybe more.

Judging from activity on our S.A. thread, pretty sure there'd easily be over a dozen of us seriously interested in attending something like this.

Harris Hill ain't gonna be free though. Have you guys thought about obtaining sponsors to help with costs and promotion? Also, you gotta have some kind of competition for attendees with prizes for best mods, etc. I would not mind paying a modest entry fee to have the opportunity to drive on the track.

You guys really need to talk to the HH ppl first to make sure it's doable there and a tentative/proposed weekend date they could work us in or maybe piggyback us in on another already scheduled open track day type event! Costs, etc. I'm all for it though!!!

I was planning of giving a call if there was enough interest in making a event. We can get possibly Gillman and a few other vendors to help out, again if there is enough interest. There's still plenty of time to plan things out.

Do Boy 01-17-2013 11:01 AM

Just want to put it out there. This is not a car show. Track day will NOT be free.
We aren't HIN or IFO. This just suppose to be a meet/track day. It's free to go and Watch. We don't have the resources or funds to set up something with awards or prizes. As Roger has stated, we will talk to local companies in the scene around here to try to make the track day a little bit cheaper. But the main goal of this is to get Texas 86 owners as a whole to get together as a state. But nothing is 100% set in stone as of right now.

Got3n 01-17-2013 11:16 AM

I just wanna get to sit in @Do Boy 's car! lol

I hope you have skinny hips because I couldn't fit! It's an awesome car though.

I'd be willing to help with some of the Logistics. I live in Austin so I can go visit the local area shops and see about sponsoring. Hit me up by email irafrey (at) gmail.com.

Also Harris Hill has a mini school for $250, I wonder if we could get a group discount on a crash course in car handling.

Thanks. Either Roger or myself will be in touch.

We could do a TX2K13 meetup as well. That weekend is always a blast!

Klar 01-17-2013 05:02 PM

Problem with Labor Day is that it's still going to be hot. There is no shade at H2R. I helped get the big Mazda event rolling this last fall. I got them to push it back to NOV from the heat. It was much nicer.

Roger sent an e-mail to Harris Hill. Just waiting on a reply now.
