Don't know about you guys, but...

I'm finding this to be the most interesting part of the forum to visit.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel as that I know enough about the car that I'm really hankering only for local information now. Not too concerned with the constant FRS discussion in the general forum...

Anyone else finding the same?

coyote 12-04-2011 02:48 AM

I think you're right, Mr Pugzor.

Although it will be overseas companies that are first to pull these things apart and see how much potential they really have, we just need to know if we have a choice of brands and if so, what the differences are.

armythug 12-04-2011 02:51 AM

Does anyone know for sure if the BRZ is coming or not? This is holding me up from locking one down at the Toyota dealership. Because I have been leaning towards a BRZ:iono:

It was only the other day i felt like getting out of there, strengthened by some yank miss interpreting something i said and i thought, you know what Yank, you can have it, ill wait for my local release then decide.

Are they still whinging and bitching about the a/c knobs!

+ i like the fact we wont see the 86 on our shores for a while, let everyone else pick it to pieces so we can see the faults if there are any.

st162celica 12-04-2011 04:06 AM

I just want this car already. Sick of waiting ! Been trying to keep my st162 going for the last few years until the 86 comes out. Wasn't expecting for it to get delayed this long.

I'm just sick of the complaints. They want a cheap car in the u.s but then complain there is no start button , or lights are crappy or don't like interior ,ohh don't like the wheels ...
Fkn Snaps me.

Either love the car for what it is, or just get off the 86 forum and go complain somewhere else.

When this cars comes out im not socializing with a bunch of whingers but rather enthusiasts of the 86. The guys that have been dying for the day for Toyota to finally release the proper sports car that they should have had years ago ! ! !

My gut feel is brz is coming and at around the same price as the 86, 40k odd on road ,low spec . Damm who knows . Everyone wants it cheap but really it can't be. Just happy that it's not going to be 60k !!!! With all the time and effort that has been put into it ! .

I just wonder what the spec models will be called in aus. Hopefully not 86 sx or 86 zr .lol

Wouldnt mind 86 s for low spec and. 86 r for high spec . Please hope that Toyota Aust don't use some dumb spec model names like they have with their other cars.

I'd rather there is no spec model badge or name, just high and low spec that has NO spec badge on the car. A cool 86 badge will do! Cool I hope ! Otherwise debadge.

Haven't heard from much guys in sydney wanting the 86 ?

Also has anyone been having arguments with subie fans that think this car sucks, well the brz version as it's not awe and turbo. Damm those are brain dead arguments , they just don't get the concept of the rwd n/a lightweight sports car !

My wife hates Toyota ! She just wants them to release the 86 so I stop talking about it, and get it and get out of the house !!! Lol

My missus actually likes it so far, so at least im on a winner there.

Anyways Ive been onto a buddy at Sydney City and although he knew very little about the car he said he will throw some emails around and see what comes of it, probably nothing we don't already know but we'll see what happens.

Oh i did find 1 thing out, if a car has steel wheels/hub caps and alloy wheels as an option then those alloys are fitted here in Oz, they don't come off the boat with alloys, well they do but only if the steel/hub caps isn't an option only alloys are.

Looks like my steel wheel theory is out the window.

Nardi330 12-04-2011 04:25 AM

I agree that we have seen enough of the info and wanting to know the local spec badly.

I'll most likely get the Toyota version just becos of the name 86 sounds so much cooler than BRZ, which is too close to the CRZ...... However I really like the Subaru headlights and WR Blue.

Toyota will most likely to have fixed price servicing and I'd think insurance might be cheaper. Also Toyota dealers are usually pretty aggressive when doing deals with tons of dealers around I can make them fight over my business!!!!

st162celica 12-04-2011 04:30 AM

Actually my wife loves the car ! Just hates Toyota for taking so long to bring it out. As she has had to put up with me complaining about my celiac breaking down every 2nd week.

Really surprised that Toyota Aust are calling it the 86. thank god !!!!

I thought they would call it the celica, to keep the name just like they did with the corolla. Just don't go calling the high spec 86 a ( grande ) like my dads camry. Lol

Nardi330 12-04-2011 05:51 AM

They will probably borrow Lexus' book and call the base "sports" and high "sport luxury".

My wife is cool about me 86 this 86 that all the time as I have trained her well with my MX5 and Type R love lol

coyote 12-04-2011 06:10 AM

I really couldn't give a rats what's on the badge. It's what's under the skin that counts.

When they announce that the EU version is going to be called GT-86, it sounded like they are trying too hard.
I like 86, simple and no-nonsense.
If the Japanese call them 86, I want it to call it 86 as well!

If Subaru Australia were not going to bring it in, why would they fly a bunch of motoring journos to Japan for a private test and then schedule their announcement to occur just after they all write their stories?

Hawx 12-04-2011 07:57 PM

Have to agree, not so much committed to the general forums now. I'm just tired of waiting to find out what the price will be here! Depending on that, I may get it a couple of years from now and just go buy a supra.

Can't say too much about another half being fed up with my obsession, I'm young and living the bachelor life lol :D

celicajim 12-04-2011 08:33 PM

Yeh, I don't read far into most of the threads now, they tend to turn to drivel pretty quickly.

Local Drive away Price is the next thing that really matters.

TBH I don't think I'll be getting an 86, at least not for a few more years, when the Celica gets a bit too tired.
I've done the dual purpose Daily/Trackday car thing with the Celica, and I don't think I'd want to do that with a new car.
But if the 86 is cheap enough maybe I'll change my mind.

Nardi330 12-04-2011 08:37 PM

i guess the general forums are good for aftermarket news and technical discussions tho.

but the whinging will dead down.

Hmm I thought that they were supposed to make the announcement on 30NOV. They're stalling for no reason and people are placing orders with Toyota. :iono:

Nostalgia1987 12-05-2011 02:04 PM

From recent car articles journals i have had a read through, Subaru Australia will be making a decision about the BRZ 'before christmas', so it shouldnt be too long of a wait.

This has been an interesting thread to have a read through. Have to agree with the amount of stupid pointless complaining coming from the other parts of the forum and around the world. I dont like the A/C knob, the interior colour makes my hair look bad, where can i plug my iphone in so i can complain about everything else while im at it also, seriously GTFO! There is a fair amount of this ungrateful attitude on YouTube and online car journal articles also. Appreciate for what the car is, the amount of effort that has been put in the car since 2008 is true dedication.

Im looking forward to see what next year brings, the 86 should be a good buy. Also considering its a Toyota the intermediate services should be at a reasonable fixed price and considering its a naturally aspirated motor, insurance costs should be much, much, much lower than that of a current Subaru Impreza WRX.

Mushroom City

Mate i hear you loud and clear Toyota Australia have little or no information
and the dealers zero.

At this stage i have no idea what specs we are getting. The rest of the world have far more information than we do.

P.S. 6 months ago I listed to kept informed by Toyota Australia on the FT86.
They contacted me once about the new Yaris ,but not a word on the
86!!!!. (Also 2 local dealers) very poor.

Same!! I am pretty annoyed that Australia doesn't know anything... and the release date is set to be the same as the world.... so why can't we know as much as the rest of the world?!

Is the a major motor show on soon??

Well the international show has been and gone, bad timing i guess, whats on in January?

PuGZoR 12-06-2011 06:43 AM

Australian International Motor Show isn't until October this year too, since it's being held in Sydney. (Syd and Melb alternate now and hold one decent show... Syd will have been in Oct 2 times in a row now, Melb was around July last year though!)

Other than Tokyo I don't really know of many major Asia Pacific region shows... Most of them are in the US or Europe...

bold: they know nothing was talking to a dealer that is run by toyota aus and they confirmed they only know rough arrival date, and he HAS taken deposits on that info already i was like wtf

underlined: i put my name down at that dealer, so that's up to about 7-8 times i've put my name down for this car and have heard nothing.

what we have to remember that we are a VERY small market compared to USA, europe & china. and alot less important than japan, we wont hear anything till a good 3-2months before release.

yes the motor show is in syd this year but it wont be on the traditional october date it has been moved to july to correspond a year after melbourne so that australia only truly has one show that arrives annually, again our car market is too small for companies to spend money on two seperate shows a year.

Nostalgia1987 12-06-2011 07:57 AM

Perth Motor show was on a few months ago, first time since 2008. Was great to get that car fix again, have a look at all the models, ask some questions. I went and asked about the then named FT86 at the Toyota pavilion, what i got was a vista response followed by an uncertain answer, wasnt very helpful at all. Best place for intel is right here, on threads the admin creates and in the loop members who are in on the car development.

JFC 12-07-2011 09:59 PM

I cant imagine how Toyota Aus will Launch this thing. I highly doubt they will do what Japan and USA has done :paddle:

But anyways i was thinking if we/someone/me started a thread specifying only known facts about this car.

Now true still many things up in the air as too what is available to who/where and what isn't but at least it wont be scattered across different threads.

Now i suggest this thread be a facts only thread with little too no views/opinions, only the facts. With who ever started the thread to read thru each day/hour/minute and add info posted to the first post.

This way its possible we wont end up with confrontational opinions getting mixed up with facts.

:thanks::happy0180:

Nah mate, it's in October. http://www.motorshow.com.au/ Don't ask me why they've got their dates set up like that, but it's probably so schedules don't (or do) conflict with other events going on in each city.

It's good that they've made it just one decent show in Australia. The Brisbane motor show was absolute crap, it was just a big car yard, and I have a feeling the Syd/Melb shows were the same. AIMS has been great the last few years, as they've had both reveals (of domestic and international importance) and plenty of concept cars from a lot of manufacturers.

Calais 12-08-2011 07:42 AM

wtf when did this happen? i was reading that they were changing it to july for both. meh ahh well we'll just have to wait longer now, plus this is shit i was hoping for a reveal at the syd show if it was going to be in july, October's crap for an auto show down here everything is either out already or hasnt been released yet because the jap, europe and US major shows are either just after this or WAYYYYYY before. thats why the melbourne show always had the better cars and was the better show because it was just after all the major markets debut their cars.

NOT HAPPY JANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
