Aftermarket steering wheel..

Just put on nrg wheel and quick release. Now my slip light is on plus abs light.. I cant turb off trac control or any of those buttons.. Any suggestions? Fixes or will it stay like this?

You will probably need to wire up a resistor to the airbag wires to fool the car into thinking the airbag is still there. I know that is what people do when they switch out seats.

In the past I remember changing the steering wheels in cars causes the Airbag Light, not disables everything. They may have tied everything together.

NemeGuero 01-15-2013 01:54 PM

use a 2OHM resistor across both connectors that used to go to your air bag.

Makes sense but that will also work for the abs light and the loss of traction light

Those are being triggered by the car not seeing the airbag. Resistor SHOULD fix all those problems.

I'm using the Works Bell hub. It includes the resistor. I haven't had any problems with the airbag light since installation.

Is tht with the slip light and abs lighy off also can u show me pic of the resistor

NemeGuero 01-15-2013 08:37 PM

I don't have any lights on with my WB hub and the resistors.

not my pic or even a FR-S but here is what it looks like:

Dam i just put in and still have all light mayb i do erong

BoostinIX 01-16-2013 08:15 AM

NRG's usually don't disable the airbag or come with the resistor. Did you get one or?

03Z33 01-25-2013 08:52 PM

Installed Works Bell hub with two resistors today, no SRS airbag light but the slip and ABS lights are on and TRC/VSC buttons are non responsive. Any ideas? Is this maybe linked to the cruise control?

Yea i had same problem then a week later i wrecked the car do me a favor and change it back shit be dangerous wothout abs.. No way of tirning it off either

NemeGuero 01-25-2013 10:21 PM

I doubt its linked to the cruise control. I've had my wheel installed for a month at least with the WB hub and resistors and I know for a fact my traction control is operational. Pics of your resistors? Did you get both connectors?

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope everyone is OK.

Yes, both srs connectors have resistors. WB supplied two.
I know the resistors are working because airbag light goes through the start up sequence fine, then turns off. Horn is good also.

My setup is same as yours, only difference is I have a quick release which shouldn't change anything. I'll double check everything again tomorrow.

Lika boss

03Z33 01-26-2013 05:25 PM

All fixed  Thanks for the assistance Nemeguero and F-R-S

The ABS and slip light were coming on because the clockspring wasn't centered. If you look at the stock steering wheel the clock spring sits at 12 O'clock when the steering wheel is straight. When I installed the WB hub with the arrow that normally indicates top/center at 12 O'clock it spun the clock spring around to 2:00 O'clock which the car doesn't like. Make sure to rotate the hub CCW until the clockspring is back at 12 O'clock to avoid this happening.

For those running the NRG hub, you will need to modify your hub to allow the stock clockspring to be retained, if you remove the clockspring the ABS and Slip lights will be on and may not function properly, this vehicle seems to use the clockspring for steering position/angle.

_F-R-S_ 01-26-2013 06:10 PM

Yea thats what i figured! Dam i ripped mine out lmao

NemeGuero 01-26-2013 06:40 PM

How did your hub even fit with the clock spring out of place?

03Z33 01-26-2013 07:53 PM

Clockspring can rotate any which way, but if you have it off-center when driving straight down the road the car freaks out. The hub will fit with the clockspring in any orientation.

_F-R-S_ 01-26-2013 11:02 PM

I ripped it out so i had no way of getting abs ever it happens

NemeGuero 01-26-2013 11:20 PM

yah but the WB hub has a guide for the clock spring top

linnk me to your wb hub you purchased from

BoostinIX 02-07-2013 02:34 PM

FRSport has several...

FYI- Splash and WB are the same part.

_F-R-S_ 02-07-2013 02:57 PM

@BoostinIX can u help me put on i fked up centering the clockspring last time

NemeGuero 02-07-2013 03:16 PM

I got my works bell hub from evasive.

Every car's different, just be gentle with it. If you're really concerned, sure Pure or Mach V would put it on.

_F-R-S_ 02-07-2013 09:14 PM

I ordered the wb hub short. Gunna give it another try hopfully this abs light goes off..

ft86me 06-27-2013 11:14 PM

so when i installed the wheel today, i noticed the abs and traction came on after driving for a bit. when installing i centered the wheel but that orange peice was about like 7 or 8 o clock with centering the wheel. do i need to turn that to 12 then intsall the hub? i have a works bell hub btw.

That's sound about right. You should see the orange piece behind the little window as well. Did you spin it by accident at some point?? I made that mistake and the ABS and TRAC never went away. The way I got it fixed is I put my stock wheel back on and went to the dealer. It needed calibration. I'm about reinstall the wheel again later

the orange peice was about 7 o clock through the window. i'm assuming that i need to turn it up to 12 o clock with it showing through the window so i see it right? then that should be a green light for me to put my other wheel on?

When I installed mine, the orange piece was showing in the small window at around the 8 o clock position. If its in that window, then the clock spring is lined up properly. You'll notice that if you spin it, by the time you make a full rotation, the orange piece won't line up with that window anymore.

Get that orange piece and the window to line up. Then the plugs coming out of the clock spring should be directly at the 12 o clock position. Bolt on the hub and get it on there TIGHT! Don't overdue it but if it isn't tight enough, the clock spring will still be free enough to rotate underneath the hub. So tighten it down all the way and then route the wires through the hub. Place the resistors on the airbag wires, wire up the horn and you're good to go.

I have a Personal wheel and Works Bell hub installed on mine. Over 600 miles with it on and everything works like OEM. No lights.

see this is odd because i saw the orange through the little window because before i pulled the wheel off i centered the wheel. the plugs coming out of the clock spring? i'm not sure what those "plugs" are. i also impacted the nut on there with my electric impact so it was tight.

hmm clockspring was lined up, but the plugs that you speak of. which ones are those. the light will be off until i start to drive then they both go on.

TylerLieberman 06-29-2013 12:15 AM

The plug I speak of is the one that is on the clockspring.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12257

Look at the 4th picture in the original post. That white plug and the two yellow wires for the airbag. Those should be at the 12 o clock position just like they are in that picture while at the same time, having the orange piece lined up in the window off to the side. If they are both like that, it should be lined up.

The only way to get rid of those lights is to hook up resistors to the airbag plugs. Just stick the pins into the holes on the airbag plugs and wrap it up with electrical tape just like in the 2nd picture @NemeGuero provided.

With the clockspring 100% properly aligned and the airbag plugs done, everything should work with no lights
