Question

Does the 86 have an alarm?
Are your mirrors that fold in electronically also slightly uneven/one faster than the other?

So what is the best alarm to install in the 86?
Why is there no alarm fitted in the first place, does anyone know?

Crewzern 01-15-2013 02:07 AM

No alarm ? ... i was under the impression it did have one. :mad0259:
On the high spec it gives a warning tone when your hand is near the door latch and you dont have the keys...thought that was part of the alarm

sav 01-15-2013 02:16 AM

Yep, no alarm - silly. Leave the window open, lock the car then unlock and open the door from the inside. Alarm should go of but it doesn't because there isn't one.

Also, it doesn't double lock so if you break the window you're in.

RueFT86 01-15-2013 02:35 AM

Damm that sucks.
So what is the best alarm for this car?
A while back in the Speed and sound magazine, a guy was advertising alarms that work with your windows, central locking system etc. So your windows could be open. As soon as you arm the vehicle, the windows wind up automaticaly. Also if someone breaks into the car, it takes out a picture of the person and sends it to your alarm key with the picture of the burglar etc. Even if someone mistakenly bumps your car it sends a signal.
But I can't remember what alarm this was. It would be a good idea to install this.

I can also remember something like that, it's been around for a while. Can't remember what it was called though.

Wonder if insurance companies are aware of this...no oem alarm on a +- R300k vehicle

I read something in the manual regarding how to enable the alarm but I was unsuccessful... Traditional Toyota alarm works with the hooter so maybe a tweak required at the dealers? For the beep for lock and beep-beep for unlock? :iono:

Nope, already checked - there are no dealer selectable settings for the alarm.

Thing is, if they want to steal your car they will and it's not like any of the parts would fit a Quantum or Hi-Ace anyway. I've got tracking for when some moron decides to take a chance.

Annoying... I can never remember if I locked the damn thing!
Hmmm, what about a gearlock? :bonk: On my Corolla I had the big visible gearlock and not the discrete pin type. But I reckon these cars are more hijack risks - they'd be over the border before the day is out. Amen to trackers!

v3rgil 01-15-2013 04:01 AM

whom would want there car back any ways , hence why i have insurance, dont want it back if stolen (want it replaced), had a car stolen and got it back but it was f@##'ed insurance had it fixed but was never the same

If memory serves correctly, the manual states that there is a built in alarm and default is is set to off. HOWEVER, this was only for European models. It's not included for the rest of the world.

Similar to the running lights... SA does not have the alarm function. Getting it could be as simple as a software update on the computer or it possibly requires additional hardware. But bottom line is that here in SA there is no alarm on the car.

RueFT86 01-15-2013 04:31 AM

Guys I have found the link for that alarm company. Check below and tell me what you think. Another question, will this effect out warranty etc if we have to fit this on?

As for the laptop - one of my sales reps in durban has a double cab...

In short carry it with you if you can't hide it! Ipad + Laptop - 6 months old - gone!

Quickly checked through the manual, car has a factory fitted immobiliser. Checked through my insurance papers, mention is only made that the car must have a immobiliser.. Nothing about an alarm..

Vladror 01-17-2013 02:43 AM

the way cops tend to swarm around my car to look at it wherever i park, i'd say it doesn't need an alarm, as long as you avoid areas that are off limits to cops..
