Enkei RPF1 17x9 +45 with Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 255 40 R17 & Moto-spec RS*R Sports-i

Since this forum, particularly the guide posts, were so much help to me in making my wheel and tire decisions, I thought it only fair that I post up my setup in return now that I have just today installed the wheels and tires.

As for the setup, the subject line says it all but just in case:
Enkei RPF1 17x9 +45
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 255 40 R17
Moto-spec RS*R Sports-i

It's looking good (and the early driving is great, even with brand new tires on this chilly day) but only time will tell what kind of rub I'm in for aside from the tiny full-lock rub I noticed. This year's AutoX will be the real test of the rub issue, I'm sure. In any case, on with the pictures!

Meaty!!! I like! I've been thinking of running 255 square setup aswell. If the only thing is fender liner rubbing at full lock then that can be managed with a bit of trimming.

I was planning on going 245 originally, but with star specs so hard to find these days (due to the Z1->Z2 transition, I suppose) and 245 basically impossible to find I ended up going with 255. We'll see how that turns out as the year gets going. I suppose that once the Z2s are more widely available I could always switch out and sell lightly used 255s to someone else if necessary.

Yeah I'm leaning towards 245's but I'm going with a 9.5" wheel so it'll be a little stretched. There's some guys here running that size with no issues but haven't seen it with 255's. don't know if I want to risk it.

HATED1 01-12-2013 07:55 PM

thanks for the pics!

whataboutbob 01-12-2013 08:24 PM

That looks great. Can't wait for my 17x9 et35 blk RPF1s with 245/40R17 Z2s.

hachi_dos 01-13-2013 07:33 PM

Looks awsome!!!

VoiD 01-14-2013 06:13 PM

wow thats a lot of meat

wparsons 01-15-2013 11:54 AM

That's a lot of tire! Are you running stock struts up front?

Got3n 01-15-2013 12:09 PM

wow that looks great!!!!!

Innova 01-15-2013 12:29 PM

Loving the meaty tires. Makes it look like -35 offset

crimespree 01-15-2013 05:31 PM

I've got a set of these coming. Hoping to fit 235s on with std struts for now...

wgnzlz 01-15-2013 08:21 PM

Looks amazing, thanks for the pictures. I still can't make up my mind between these and the Mach V Awesome.

I like the flat look of the 9" width Enkei but if you want to run any big brake kit then the Enkei wont work. The Mach V will work with a big brake kit so if eventually big brakes are not in your future then Enki would be my choice.

*KID* 01-15-2013 10:05 PM

looks nice, approx how much did you have it lowered?

kanundrum 01-15-2013 10:08 PM

Where did you order it from?

SkAsphalt 01-16-2013 08:47 AM

can I ask how your car feels off the line now? 9" (or 255 tires in your case) seems so wide for the power we have.

It will just have more grip, so unless he's trying to spin wheels it will be much the same, even with the heavy tyres, the rims are 2kg lighter than std so actual weight shouldn't matter much..

Moto-spec RSR Sports-i coilovers. I only get a tiny rub at absolutely full lock which must be coming from the wheel wells but it hasn't been an issue so I haven't really dug into it.

-45, as it turns out.

Approx 36mm in the front and 24mm in the back, as stated by Moto when speccing the coilovers, at least.

Wheels and tires from Tire Rack. Coilovers direct from RSR.

Exactly. In a sense it feels slower but only because it is, well, less eventful. :) In reality it is much faster than before, on account of the massive increase in grip. Steering response did feel a little slower until I had the alignment done and toe adjusted front and back. Now it feels very close to what it did before, only with gobs of grip. It's now an entirely different car on the auto-x course, that's for certain, and I haven't even fully broken in the tires or gotten them up to proper temperature!

This picture definitely makes me lean toward +35 offset.

dori. 02-11-2013 01:23 AM

ugh I want the RSR coils...

all depends if you intend to go to coil overs, you'll have plenty of room then..
+35 poke out of the side of the car and are illegal here, if the +45 fits (albeit tightly) so what, they are going to touch unless the bearings flog out.

For me if it fits it fits, long term I will put coilovers in.

Any chance you have a shot with a 245/40 on the wheel to see how much room there is? Looks extremely tight to me?

wgnzlz 02-11-2013 07:44 AM

It looks tight to me too. I won't be getting coilovers for at least another year, so if the 245s won't fit, I will have to go with a different set of wheels.

What's weird to me is the pictures that I've seen of the +42 Mach V wheels don't look anywhere near as tight and it's only 3mm difference.

kanundrum 02-11-2013 10:15 AM

245's with a 45 offset fit just fine fyi, had it on my car and someone is currently selling the same setup and wheels who has been running them for 2000 miles. I am probably going to get 35 offset with 255 (stock suspension)

No tyres on yet. Will be putting 235s on in the next few weeks.
It is tight. But I can't have it nor do in want it poking at the front. +35 pokes.
Tight isn't an issue. It either touches or it doesn't.

wparsons 02-11-2013 04:11 PM

I'm thinking +45 with a 5mm spacer to bring it back to +40, or just staying with 8" wheels and 225 tires with +45.

I don't want any poke, especially up front and it's not a race car so I'm leaning towards the 8"/225 option.

BAE 02-11-2013 04:12 PM

How is the steering with 255's in front?

this is the smart move... BUT the 9 inch looks soooo much nicer I just had to have them, I am not usually into form over function....

Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been receiving notifications of posts at all consistently for a while now. :(

After adjusting toe and getting pressures right the feel is surely different from stock but with this setup it is either similar enough or at least natural enough that I adjusted quickly enough to not really be able to fairly compare them in my mind any more. I can tell I am turning a bit more rubber, but it sure doesn't feel like 40mm more and the grip is outstanding in comparison to stock.

BlaineWasHere 02-17-2013 10:17 PM

I'm glad I found this. I was just wondering if I could fit 255s at et 45! I have coils but I was still a little worried.

mtsui 03-01-2013 02:45 PM

this is +45??? howcome it looks like a +35?
thanks
Nick
