SPARCO PROADV SEAT INSTALLED IN BRZ

I'm 6.2", 38 pants, 250 lbs. I already knew it would be HARD to get super low in a BRZ with race seats and side mounts WITHOUT doing a custom mount to the floor.

I used the PLANTED seat bases and I will tell you these are the LOWEST you wil find anywhere. These guys are good, professional and got these bases out right away.

I mounted the Sparco side mounts to the Sparco PRO ADV seat which is a larger seat for big guys. Its equal to a Recaro Profi or SPG XL or Pole Position in width.

At best I can get maybe as low as stock in this seat. This isnt bad.....but I want to be LOWER and that would require a full on build. I dont plan to do a full cage in this car only a back half.

Dan in the pictures is 5ft 10" tall so you can imagine what a 6.2" person would look like.

Mind you NO SLIDER in this arrangement. We took pics to show anyone who is thinking of doing this.

So now I have to try other seats. BTW the issue I have is with my helmet on in the stock seat I have 15mm of clearance to the celling.

I wanted to be clear that the PLANTED base is awesome. I will try some Recaro Sportster CS's probably and this base will work with those.

IF you are 5.10 or shorter this set up works VERY WELL. Dan said this would be ideal for him as this is where he needs to be in the car.

FWIW...this seat is now for sale.

Awesome seat! I doubt my fat ass would fit in one tho'. lol

whataboutbob 01-12-2013 01:13 AM

I have a similar issue (6ft 3.5in in height) with the stock seats. With my helmet on I'm wedged against the ceiling. I'm hoping to work with a fabricator to build some custom mounts/rails that'll give me a bit more room.

Scooby South 01-12-2013 01:14 AM

looks great and comfy... except to get in and out of..:) weight???

Price on the seat? Also how much does Dan weight? And his waist size?

Does the SRS light pop up?

Vracer111 01-12-2013 03:00 AM

Kind of the same here, 6'2" and need my seating position about 2" lower than stock... With all the buzz about the 'low' seating position I was hoping it would be adequate, but nope it's not low enough. Okay for daily driving (still not ideal), but not so fine for helmeted driving.

Is there really no mounting and fixed back seat combination that will drop seat height ~ 2" lower than stock? I was thinking of going with Sparco EVO with available mounting solutions, but it looks like to get the seating in a proper position will require custom fabrication... :( Maybe I can try removing foam from the stock seat bottoms, but that's kind of irreversible 'damage' once you do it...

Dam thats one expensive seats plus wheels.. Must be nice

600.00 for the seat with side mounts. Was used twice in 2009 to test and set up a Time attack EVO.

Dan weighs like 200 and I think hes like a 34-36 waist. 5ft 10 tall.

And THIS is why I am posting this because I too felt that way and looked on the internet for MONTHS trying to find info. I can tell you this much: with the seat out and looking at this SUPER LOW PLANTED base with the side mounts at the lowest and the next to NO extra space between the seat bottom and the floor( .50) it does NOT look good for ANY set up with side mounts custom or not. Mind you I removed the Sparco padding too !

I am going to probably get Recaro Sportster CS's because it uses BOTTOM mount and then it DOES allow for a SUPER Low position. I think in that seat I will be about 1 full inch lower than stock.

The Cobra Misano S also is .50 lower than stock. I sat in the TAKATA BRZ recently back to back with a stock car in its lowest position and its for sure lower. Do I want a race bucket seat? YES. But I will have to settle for the reclinable type.

I will admit I am majorly disappointed because any chance of making this into a BRZ CUPCAR are now SHOT( for me at least being 6ft 2inch tall). When I have sat in and driven Porsche Cup cars( GT3 and 944 turbos) I am able to get VERY low and sitting low for any driver is confidence inspiring. So this is kinda of a game changer for me actually.

The ONLY other thing that I think would "help" but not by much is the new RACETECH seats position the drivers UNDER the wheel instead of sitting IN FRONT of the steering wheel. Imagine a C shaped seat that scoops you under the seat instead of the conventional type race seat that sits UPRIGHT.

PRICE POINT: 2500.00

NO FRIGGIN WAY !

Actually for head restraint race seat that is FIA approved....its not that pricey in comparison. FWIW...its been sitting around since late 2009.

I was thinking of the new Sparco Ergo besides the Evo, same design concept as the Racetech but for $850 and the side helmet bolsters are removable for daily driving so you have better visibility...

http://vracer111.smugmug.com/photos/...kwbPPj9-XL.jpg

I just really don't have funds for seats/mounts right now...so I'm making due with the stock seats.

If I was going for a track only car I know a custom mounted aluminum seat bolted to the floor (to custom welded in bars across the stock seat mount tunnels) and attached to a rollbar like I did with Kirkey seats for my '98 Camaro track car [ image1 image2 ] would solve all the issues I have with the FR-S seating position; giving many inches of headroom with an absolutely PERFECT seating position (leg positioning, steering wheel location, head height). I was hoping that the FR-S would be similar due to all the 'buzz', but it's not even close to being the perfect seating position setup I had in that Camaro.

I like the Ultrashield line of seats and would rock the Road Race VS Halo seat for a low price point (less than the lowest cost Sparco fiberglass race seat) and good quality seat.

http://vracer111.smugmug.com/photos/...XzFZP8Q-XL.jpg

Not practical for daily driver use though...and that is what my FR-S is, my daily driver. The only one that may be practical enough for daily driver duty is the Rally Sport Seat, but aluminum race seats require hard-mounting with rollbar attachment for seatback support, so it comes with limited access to the rear seat/storage area along with use of harness and reduced rear mirror visibility [see THIS! ] and overall ability to check around you. I guess having a perfect seating position and a daily driving friendly car is a mutually exclusive idea... :(

I'm sure it would throw something up, but nothing resistor(s) in the harness connector can't fix... just need to get the right resistance. The occupant sensor might complicate things somewhat though. Looking through the pdf'd FSM I haven't found any measurements for the SRS system other than the <1 ohm and >1M ohms checks.

Scooby South 01-12-2013 06:54 PM

Let me ask this.. With a good low bracket and say an EVO2 seat...being that min weight needs to be 25lbs and the seat needs to be on the floorboard as much as possible...is there someone that makes a lower Bracket that just replaces the stock one to get the seat lower??? Or is that even possible????

All these seats are illegal right? In a collision insurance will not cover your injuries due to the tampering of safety equipment right?

Surok 01-12-2013 09:42 PM

this is for race cars...

as soon as you replace the seats with ones without airbags. you are in trouble for insurance and road rules.

Racecomp Engineering 01-14-2013 12:43 AM

You just have to see these parts installed on the car to fully understand it. If a person is 5ft 10 of shorter its NOT an issue. Its for people above 6ft tall.

We are going to TRY using aftermarket steering wheel with an extender of 3 inches to get the wheel OUT which does 2 things: 1 raises the wheel some and 2. gets it farther away from the tall drivers legs.

Myles

Surok 01-14-2013 12:54 AM

The hump under the seat is what makes those seats sit so low. look at the base of the seat in relation to the mounting holes. on both seats.

the bride low max sits you a bit lower. :)

I hear you. But wait til a person gets it in their hands. You will see. Its not like I'm full of it in this case. I just had the LOWEST base you can use in the car with NO slider and side mounts set in the lowest position.

Anyway. Just sharing the info from actual experience with all the stuff in hand and in car.

UPDATE

Finally a seat that fits in the BRZ for taller drivers who need head room for the track with helmets. This set up with Planted brackets and Recaro sliders sits .70 lower than stock at the lowest setting. I now have more room in the ceiling and the seats are more supportive for sure.

Pass seat goes in next week.

WE tried doing fixed back seats last month but it sits WAY too high in this car.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=660733

Recaro's weigh 33 lbs each. Stock seats 46 lbs.

Is that a spot to mount a 120mm fan?!

Rampage 02-09-2013 05:54 AM

Great news that you found a solution. My son is interested in this car but at 6'4" and 250LB he is legitimately concerned about fitting even without a helmet. This set up may be an option for him. Thanks for your research.

That is really my only complaint about the BRZ seats to me.. My ass gets quite warm even without the heated seats.

damn, still not a full bucket, and i think those recaro sportsters are quite wide are they not?

At 6.3 I can put my wallet(3inches wide) on top of my head and still have room. I think your son will fit fine.

hey are you calling me FAT? :laughabove:

JK. Yeah they are 25mm WIDER Than a Recaro SPG but same width as aRecaro POLE POSITION.

again.....the issue with the wider seats and the full bucket is side mounts. The regular Recaro SPG can use special side mounts that allow the seat......
.....to slide BETWEEN the mounts and drop down about 2inches. THAT....my friend is the difference. So yes I need to loose about 40lbs and fit my ass into a regular SPG or Sparco EVO(not the EVO2/3/or 4) but the regular EVO and yes you can get low enough. But you have to be no larger than a size 36inch waste to fit in the SPG(Recaro) or EVO(Sparco) seats. But the guys who are 6ft and taller AND waste size 38-42....you will need the wider seats and those will side mounts.....dont allow the seat to drop down BETWEEN the side mounts. Instead it sits on TOP and then your head is on the headliner.

Myles

Surok 02-09-2013 09:03 PM

so are you saying you were NOT sitting Between the seat mounts?

im 6'1" and size 30 waist 147lbs lol.

yes thats what those holes are for. My drivers seat IS heated (Recaro) This one is the passenger and we just did a test fit. These were in stock at PRO AM in TEXAS so I wasnt waiting 10-12 weeks for non heated.

In the original seat in this thread correct. The PLANTED base is a flat base as you can see in the pictures. The Nagisi seat rails allow the NARROW Seats to sit BETWEEN it and DOWN lower.

http://www.enjukuracing.com/product_...22379_zoom.jpg

At your weight you could fit in an F1 car with inserts !

Myles

Surok 02-09-2013 10:48 PM

yeah those are the sort of rails i thought you were using from the get go..

thats why i said to use the Bride lowmax seats with the hump on the base..
