Run through the sisters on the 25th of January.

Twisted Sisters Run

- San Antonio area members or non-members and ATX 86 area owners and our guests are invited to a Twisted Sisters Run on Saturday, January 25th.

What is a Twisted Sisters Run? Spirited driving on Ranch Roads 337, 336, 335 in the hill country near Leakey, Texas. http://goo.gl/maps/RBCGN

Why: a) because we can. b) because race-car. c) schweeeeeeeeeeet twisties. d) lotsa fun. e) all of the above.

When: Saturday, January 25th, 9 AM.

Where: Meetup at the Apple Store in Medina, TX.

Store opens at 9AM. Early arrival allows us to visit a bit, take pics and check out the store (try the apple ice cream!). We will roll out from Medina about 9:20 AM to drive to Leakey, TX.

In Leakey, we'll stop at the Stripes Convenience Store for a pit stop. (Last chance for gas and restrooms before the run).

Counter Clockwise run this time. We'll stop once or twice on the run for brief 10-15 minute photo-ops.

Lunch @ The Bent Rim Grill in Leakey, TX after the run.

MENU .pdf link

Other info:
1. Weather permitting. If it is wet, we will re-schedule for a later date. Stay tuned to this forum for last minute updates.
2. Newbys are welcome to attend. Join us...we are a friendly group and the drive is fun. Please ask questions.
3. If we have a large turn out - we will break off in to groups of 7 cars or so.
4. Faster drivers / groups will lead. Slower drivers and first timers will follow to the rear.
5. If we encounter traffic ... lead cars will pull over in a safe area to create a gap.
6. If we encounter bikes ... ramp it down folks.
7. Don't drive unsafe. Be very very alert. Use extreme caution. Stupid, show-off stuff is not allowed.
8. Bring FRS/GMRS walkie talkies if you got um. Extras will be shared by their owners if returned!! Channel 5-1
9. Cell phone service is limited or non-existent past Bandera. Only AT&T works in Leakey.
10. We will wait for Austin folks if they are running late getting to Medina.
11. DISCLAIMER: By participating in this event, all drivers/participants agree the organizer(s)/lead driver(s) will not be held responsible for any incident that may occur on the run that would involve or result in damage or injury.
12. Please feel free to add anything I might have forgot!!!

Friday Night Meets

Forum at 10:30pm meet is in parking lot by panda express and papoulis

Every Friday evening there's been a Cruise Night at Biff Buzby's Burger Joint. The address is:12702 Toepperwein Rd Ste 130, Live Oak. I'm sure a bunch of you have been there as it's been going on for like the last 7 years.

For those that haven't, it's $5 to park int he designated "Cruise Parking" area, but that also gets you like a $5 off coupon for food (it's pretty good). Most of the cars are classics & musclecars, but you never know what you may see out there.

If i had to guess, they explain corner entry and exit strategies in more detail and Crawl Walk Run you through an actual course. I am sure more is involved, but they were still hashing out the details last time I checked.

will post more when they post it on Facebook

TXIC San Antonio has weekly meets every Thursday evening (7:30-10:30) at various restaurants around the city.

tuckdaddy 01-09-2013 11:49 AM

Is there any particular order to the restaurants so we know which one and when?

As my old mentor use to say, an Ex is a has been and a Pert is a drip under pressure... It'll give you the perfect chance to practice.

I am sure they'll do fine!:burnrubber:

Extreme86 01-10-2013 06:52 PM

Yeah!! 10 day forecast has partly cloudy and high of 56° for the 19th so it is looking good. I figured we'd just do a repeat route of last time and keep an eye peeled for good spots to pull over for some good group shots. We'd begin at the Whataburger in Boerne and end up having lunch at the Bent Rim Grill. Any alternate suggestions??? PM me and we will announce final details by mid-week.

It's on! The Gun Appreciation Day Twisted Sisters Cruise! :burnrubber:

I've been thinking about about that for awhile now. I think that would be awesome but we'd be limited on how many cars we could get in the frame.

It's a hill country drive http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/55...5-336337a.html

Beautiful scenery, and fun twisty roads.

Oh man, trust me when I say reading about it doesnt do the run justice. Driving it is waaaaaaay better. Lots of hill country and what I would consider mountain roads, but not like real mountain roads. You do drive a lot os twisty roads on the side of hills but its soooo much fun. I was told to drive it slow the first time but I couldnt, I was trying to keep up with the peeps in front of me. Either ride along with someone or drive it slowly with traction control on the first time. Also be prepared to get some chips in the paint. If i had a go pro by the next run Id take it and record my horrible driving skills lol.

Wow that sounds super fun (except for the rock chips). Shouldn't you be able to avoid those if you stay back from the guy ahead of you?

Also what about tickets/bike riders/etc? There are always crazy bikers out in the hill country, and I worry about not seeing them in the twisties...

I was the last car and stayed pretty far back, but somehow you still get em. I dont think I got alot while on the actual run, but one the way up. We drove the clockwise, and to my understanding the bikers go counter clockwise. We did get behind a few slow bikers once, and a slow truck, but there are passing points. As for tickets...the day we went out, I dont think I even saw a cop that day, there were points where I hit 100mph on the rolling straights. I dont recommend it, but if you are the last car chances are you will see the cops chase someone else going fast before you lol. We had walkie talkies when we went, front car and trailing car.

Grrr... I am supposed to pick up my couch in Austin that day, otherwise I'd totally be in.

About the Twisted Sisters, I went with Got3n the last time & I definitely echo his words. Definitely let the more experienced drivers out in front. If you guys do the route as 337>335>336 you shouldn't encounter too many bikes & when you are on 41 (to connect 335 to 336) do NOT speed... you know, not that I condone speeding in any form...

I'm totally down do snap a few pics at the Alamo if that ever happens.

I am trying to picture in my head how close we can get to the Alamo in our cars, and for some reason can't.

I say we take about 2-5 cars out there on a Sunday night and get some shots (shouldn't be as busy), We can also do some rolling/ Panning shots under that colorful lit bridge bridge I posted earlier.

If the weather is good next Sunday, anyone want to try this?

tuckdaddy 01-11-2013 08:13 PM

I'd be good with that!
