Scion College Grad Rebate Dropped by $500

Hi guys,

I was browing and it seems they updated the site this week. Military discount was at $500, and they bumped it up to $1000 which was the grad discount. They should be at $1000, or $500.

Just wanted to let everyone know.

PETITION!!:threadjacked:

Kensurs 01-08-2013 11:42 AM

They also raised the MSRP. Glad I got mine when I did :D

FR-Shadow 01-08-2013 11:50 AM

Glad i got mine as well not like my dealer followed the grad package anyways.

I got the 1000 but thats it...
I didnt get "no payments for 3 months"
I didnt get "placed into highest standing for credit"

All this was because I rolled over equity from my previous car and my loan term was not 60 months. Gotta watch out for that fine print, oh well lol at least I got 1K off.

kthxbai 01-08-2013 01:35 PM

My fiance was approaching the 2-year post-grad maximum time frame this past december from his recent graduation date, so we went ahead with the purchase; got the full $1,000. I was wondering about the 3 months no payments because we did not get that either, but maybe because our loan term is not 60 months. Wish I would have seen it, I just figured our credit was not 'excellent' enough, haha.

Joeprelude 01-08-2013 02:17 PM

Eh, speaking of the Military discount, It only applies if you are financing through Toyota, but not if you are paying cash... :-(

MarcusM117 01-08-2013 05:26 PM

Picked my FR-S up on Saturday... just slid in under the 1/7 deadline!

easy fix! take out the lien through toyota motor credit, then immediately
pay the note, and still get the discount!.you'll have to pay some negligible
interest, maybe a few dollars, but that's it IF you eliminate the note right away!

EBMCS03 01-09-2013 12:13 AM

What!? There's a 3 month no payment? Wait so does that mean they pay the first 3 months for you or basically your loan is 63 months long with the first 3 free?

it's still a 60 month term. you just won't accrue interest until your first payment (3 months from signing). I did not read into the details but this is what's implied by their promotion description.

sega_102 01-09-2013 09:36 AM

I got the 1000 dollar college grad rebate, the 3 months no interest, and got placed in the highest tier credit rating. I bought the care in August.

My interest rate was around 3%. After the second month, I transferred the loan to PENFED because they offered a 1.5% interest rate.

MissDeb 01-09-2013 10:39 AM

Why did Scion chance the grad program? To many college grads buying their cars? Looks like as a society being a college grad should be encouraged.

Cheddar 01-09-2013 11:26 AM

Its always been $1000 grad and $1000 Military.

And you can actually use both.

rice_classic 01-09-2013 12:34 PM

Don't worry, if you're a college grad you'll be make bank in no time right?... Right?..

LOL

CrazyWookiee 01-09-2013 12:43 PM

Canada's MSRP is still the same and the Grad Rebate is still sitting at $1000

zaptorque 01-09-2013 02:08 PM

This thread is a fail.

Was the pedfed loan for 36 months?

MissDeb 01-09-2013 06:56 PM

As per Scion::

College Graduate Rebate

""To celebrate your smarts, between January 8, 2013 to April 1, 2013, qualifying graduates can get a $500.00 rebate towards the purchase or lease of a new Scion when you finance or lease through a participating Scion dealer and Toyota Financial Services (TFS).""

While I agree it should be encouraged, it is not Toyota who should be encouraging it.

They only offer that incentive to try and lure in the younger generation. Toyota has an extremely high loyalty rate and if you can get someone in a Toyota when they're young you have a high chance of that person buying several cars from you in their lifetime.

Marketing.....not some altruistic celebration of your ability to graduate from a university.

So after April fools either its going back up to $1000 or its going to $250? Perhaps $0?

coastertrav 03-19-2013 03:36 PM

Bump.

April 1st is coming on up. I'm planning on buying my car in late April/early May. Any word yet on what's coming up after the current promotion expires?

shawnperolis 03-19-2013 03:39 PM

I just bought my FRS last month, I think I still have the form - I can look for it when I get home.

Here is some venting though: my dealer and I figured out all of the finances a couple days before delivering. An hour before going to pick it up, they call me and tell me that my 1,000 dollar rebate was only going to be a 500 dollar rebate because they "forgot" that the deal changed. I was pretty pissed, made them give me more for my trade in.

finch1750 03-21-2013 11:09 AM

yeah, I didnt get the deffered payments either. When I got my first payment invoice in the mail (4 days bedore it was due when not expecting one sucks). Called TFS and they said they had never heard of it and the dealer didnt file anything regarding that. I had to make the payment in the meantime and got tired of dealing with the dealer and TFs so i just gave up. Kinda sucked since I didnt start my job for 3 months after, but I guess its whatever in the end.

coastertrav 03-29-2013 03:57 PM

So any news on this? This is the last weekend this promotion is running.

Jinzen 04-10-2013 10:07 AM

Hi Guys, are you guys getting MSRP - $500 college rebate + tax/title/licensing or people getting below MSRP (pure price) along with the college rebate?

I'm considering choosing between FRS and BRZ and seeing about the price differential.

EBMCS03 04-10-2013 10:30 AM

MSRP with the grad rebate towards financing as a down. Or lease.

Basically MSRP - $500.

EBMCS03 04-10-2013 10:31 AM

Curious how much discount BRZ is offering now.

It's whatever you haggle your dealer down to -$500, but to get the rebate you have to finance it through the dealer. There is a thread somewhere about how much people paid for theirs out the door.

The frs is going to be cheaper than the brz, but you won't get things like sat-nav, leather seats, or hid headlights.

Local Subaru dealers are selling at or below invoice. It's about the same price for a premium brz and base frs.

aghuman 04-10-2013 04:12 PM

As far as I know, Canadian Grad Rebate does not require you to finance however if you do, they drop the rate by 0.2%. Additionally the rebate here is $1000 instead of $500.

FRomar-S 04-10-2013 05:31 PM

I was happy with the deal that I got when I purchased mine back June 1st :)

got the 1000$ off, got a 2.9% rate and then that was knocked down a few more for having more than 10k down (yay to them for giving me $8200 for my 07 TC!)..

However, I did not get the 3 months no payments thing, but I am okay with that as I tend to get tired of a car 3-4 years in anyway, so will make the wait to pay it off 3 months longer which sucks.. And if it was simply no interest.. thats cool then :p

You know whats funny, the canadian grad rebate USED to be 500 (i think it was just before the FRS came out), then they bumped it to 1000 to equal the US rebate lol.

haha, I imagine everyone down south isn't too happy about that. Works out for them in the end anyway though since they have a lower MSRP.
