Rumor: Subaru BRZ Price from $24,000 for Premium and $27,000 for Limited (rumor)

Hi Everyone,

First post, been lurking for a while. Just saw this from a reliable source (Motor Trend editor-in-chief) and thought I'd share it.
  • Subaru BRZ should go on sale in May 2012
  • Starting price around $24k for Premium and about $27k for Limited.
  • BRZ Premium model which includes standard navigation, eight-speaker audio, soft touch dash, limited slip differential, leather-wrapped steering wheel (tilt-telescopic), shift knob and e-brake lever, six-speed manual, aluminum pedal covers and cruise control, among other standard features.
  • BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear)
  • Subaru expects sales of 3-4K units/yr
  • According to Subaru a key difference between BRZ and Toyota 86/Scion FR-S are firmer front and softer rear spring rates for the BRZ
  • BRZ weighs 2770 lbs (although Subaru BRZ press release says 2684 lbs)
  • Makes 200hp@7000rpm and 150lb-ft@64-6600rpm. Redline is 7450 (fuel cutoff)

I'll take mine in WRB with gold BBS wheels from the aftermarket.

JALOPNIK has also weighed in one this:

Quote:

The BRZ will reportedly start at around $24,000 and rise to $27,000 for the Limited model.

According to Twitter traffic, the BRZ will come in two levels of trim, the base-level — called, strangely, Premium — which includes navigation (yes, standard), eight-speaker audio, soft touch dash, limited-slip diff; leather-wrapped steering wheel (tilt-telescopic), shift knob and e-brake lever; six-speed manual; aluminum pedal covers and cruise control, among standard features.

The BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear).

You should've said that in your first post.

Instead you just blatantly wrote what you did and left everything up in airs.

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say i'd expect the FRS to start just under where the BRZ starts. makes sense if the BRZ is suppose to be more "Premium". I'm saying $23k to start for a base FRS.

Took the words outta my mouth. After going back n forth with Quantum's initial post. It does make sense that Scion slate this car right below the BRZ Premium model and slightly above Scion tC.

Rampage 12-02-2011 04:28 AM

There are so many "authorities" quoting prices for both the FR-S and the BRZ. I sincerely hope that Mr Edward Loh is in the right ballpark because his price predictions are in a area where I could seriously consider one of these models for a daily driver and weekend warrior.

Agreed. But my guess is $22k given cheaper headlights, and interior.

Not sure what a tC goes for but this should be the top model in the Scion lineup.

tC starts right around $19k+ options, IIRC

So if $22K for FRS, I am in.

$22k would be a dream. I think Hollis & Co. are doing everything they can to make this car as attainable as possible and for a very good bargain as best they can. probably the reason why you don't see fogs on the U.S. spec eight-sixes.

Very astute observation. It's amazing how much money a $5 fog lamp costs over a full production run.

agreed! don't really need those fog lights. Those empty openings are perfect to setup brake cooling ducts. :)

i dont understand the naming sequence between limited and premium. if limited is 3k more, what makes it 'limited' and if premium is 3k less, why is it so 'premium'

that doesnt make sense to me. but 24k for the mid level FRS/BRZ sounds good

That's just Subaru marketing-speak. I believe Limited is the top-line model across their lineup. Premium is likely to differentiate from the Scion version.

Though they developed the cars together, these two will be at war on the showrooms.

Limited is top of the line for Subaru. My Forester limited has stuff like leather, AUX jack, fog lights, and other stuff over the premium model. Maybe the huge moon roof too.

Aux jack is a limited feature? Lol

I thought limited features were things like.. seat warmers for your butt. Window heaters. Leather seats, shift knob, wheel. Sun roof. Navi and some other random features that add weight. lol

wait so if the premium is 24k and the limited is 27k.... will there be a base price?

Subaru is really behind with tech features, trust me. Forgot about the seat warmers, it basically has everything but Navi.

You need to understand that a Magazine editor is not a first person source... A first person source for example, is the window sticker.

So its safe to say he can be mistaken as much as anyone. We've seen a significant amount of fact errors just this week!

Its impossible to trust anything at this point until the actual pricing and full specs in the form of service manuals are released.

And the MPG can't even be confirmed until the EPA tests the car for certification...
