Sound off with upstairs neighbor
i am fed up with my upstairs neighbor, this morning as im in bed i am awoken at 9;00 to the sound of a carpet install directly above my bed.:mad0259::mad0260:
this is in addition to the incessant stomping that occurs all day and night, i just wonder where they are going to back and forth. i have the same floor plan and i can get away with alot less traveling inside. anyways its 1:30 pm and i dont know how long i need to blast the tunes:party0030: to make my point but any suggestions or just general venting if you can relate. |
I can relate.. I hate apartment living and am so thankful that this place gave me an apartment over garages and only one tenat on the side that's never home.. I can use my home theater system and all.. But the last place I was downstairs and could not figure out what they was doing.. Like walking a marathon up there.. Even when I cleaned house I didn't walk that much.. I could hear the baby crawl and it just thudded so bad.. It could be picked up on a crappy cell recoding..
I sympathize.. I know exactly how you feel.. |
Yeah, you have my sympathy. We once had a "thunder foot" living over us when we first moved to San Diego. Luckily we didn't stay in the apartment that long.

Ear plugs are your best friend!!
If you have an alarm than put one in, Crank up the vol (Screw them) and try to sleep on the ear that doesn't have the ear plug in. Works for me |
Girlfriend has offered to Scream Louder, will try that tonight

I had an apartment once. I lived below a couple of fat bitches. Never again
|
Used to live in an apartment that the walls were so thin you could hear
every time they would turn on the tap sounding like it was raining out plus the V8 he had would shake the hell out of the place when he left for work at 5:00am now living in a high rise that has to be build to withstand a cyclone (hurricane) so place is near on sound proof |
i'm very lucky. i'm on the top floor, and with the way the building is designed, i really only have one neighbor. (corner unit, and the only part that's touching my other neighbor's unit is the kitchen)

Go talk to them. Best option

Buy a house. Until that time understand its probably not deliberate. Installing carpet will reduce the footstep noise BTW. Mostly, don't start a fight over something that is unintentional.

I know that it really depends on where you live and what you are looking for in surroundings but take it with a grain of salt if you are working your way up. If you do not want to have to deal with someone on top of you then there you'll have to just deal with it until you can move on. I can pretty much guarantee that playing your stereo louder will not do a thing except to kill your hearing and piss off your other neighbors. Ear plugs as mentioned, headphones for music or just go about your daily life and deal with it. It's part of apartment living. |
So what, they install carpets everyday at 9am on the dot? Crazy.

Story time!
tl;dr. I moved out earlier than anticipated and bought a house. I lived on the top floor, but we were in apartments where the people diagonally under us were obnoxious and loud. I was there for a few years with no neighbor issues at all, and then some young college girls moved in. People over all the time, outside at 1-5am yelling, music, drinking, making excessive noise, etc. Woke my kid up, who wasn't even 1 at the time, pissed me off. I went outside on several occasions and politely asked them to quiet down because they were waking up the baby, but they ignored me. I went to the apartment office and they told me call the cops, but that's all they could do. They wouldn't intervene any more than that, even though the covenant explicitly covered noise hours. That's when I started looking for a house. Anyway, the next time I asked them and they didn't stfu, I called non-emergency. Cops showed up, told them to go inside, and they did after arguing that "they weren't being loud" and "I can't believe that guy called the cops on us." The silence lasted a few weeks. Wonderful, quiet weeks. Then one Friday night I'm coming home with my family and there's nowhere to park (there are normally tons of open spots,) and there are tons of people heading to their apartment holding cases of beer. We have a guest parking zone, but that is empty and half of the complex is taken up. I parked in front of the building and told them they'd better get someone to move. One of the girls that lives there moves, and we head inside, hearing about how that many people weren't invited, etc.. So I know it's going to be a long night.. nope. About an hour or so later there are at least five or six cops outside of the apartment, and I'm just sitting there watching out the window. Pretty sure they thought I called them, but I didn't. Over the next hour and a half or so, everyone leaves. I slept well. I headed back to the apartment office to give them my move out notice, since we had a closing date on our house. I asked if they heard about the party, and the manager said "yeah, so you called the police?" I said nope, I wasn't home when it started, and the cops showed up not too much later. She filled me in on the rest. Apparently Monday (that morning) the apartment staff showed up to work and there were beer bottles, cans, and trash all over the parking lot. The cops didn't do so bad either. 25-30 underage drinking tickets given out and one or two people possibly arrested, and I found out later the girls' education possibly in jeopardy because they were on scholarships. Hah, serves them right. Bitches. Anyway, yeah, eventually closed on the house, moved out, and haven't been happier. |

This is why I try to be as light on my feet as possible, and never wear shoes in my apartment. I live on the top floor, so luckily I don't have to deal with stuff like this, but I am always conscience about it, and do my best to not annoy my neighbor below me.
