Tsudo Hi Flow Cat Exhaust Review
Hey Guys,
I am currently getting the Tsudo exhaust installed on my car. I will have pictures and a review to come afterwards. For those of you interested in knowing more about this exhaust system, stay tuned for my posts later tonight! |
Sorry it took me so long to get back!
Just an FYI: I am a car enthusiast who really doesn't know all that much about cars, but at least I am willing to learn! So if I make a mistake, misname something, make a fool of myself, or something along those lines, please correct me! There's no need for flaming here, I am just trying to contribute! Price $650... MSRP ;). This is definitely an affordable exhaust. For this price I was very impressed with the build quality. Style of Exhaust This exhaust replaces everything behind thr over pipe. The catalytic convertor is replaced with a hi flow cat. Weight Stock: 50.65 lbs Tsudo: 41.40 lbs Reference for stock weight measurements: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6348 http://www.tune86.com/ft-86-news/212...proving-perrin (Front Pipe weight listed in description) Sound I am VERY happy with the sound. The tone is not loud; it does not drone. The exhaust note is actually deeper than I expected (you can't hear the deeper sound of the exhaust in the videos posted online). You can certainly hear the exhaust from within the cabin, but it is nowhere near bothersome. It's more of a pleasant, humming, and vibrating tone. Sort of reminds me of the old G35 exhaust (the way it vibrates anyway). My girlfriend said she could not hear the exhaust while driving behind me with her windows up. She COULD hear it if she rolled the windows down. From what I can remember in the short time I have driven it, you can hear it most between 2-3.5 k RPMS. Above 4k RPMS and you will mostly hear the engine. Performance I can't say that I have noticed a performance increase (How does anyone notice an increase on an N/A motor after installing a bolt on anyway?). The fact that I feel like the throttle is more sensitive is most likely due to my own giddiness and excitement over the new exhaust. Unfortunately I did not dyno before the installation. I also have not tuned the car, so it is really impossible to say. Hopefully someone will be able to dyno before and after and tune as well. Looks Definitely looks a lot better than stock! The tips are just the right size; aggressive, but not overly so. Definitely not coffee cans! Conclusion Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I love the look, the sound, and I am satisfied with the weight reduction. Considering the price, I think it is a good buy. For those of you who are looking into purchasing an exhaust for your FRS/BRZ, don't overlook this system simply because the price tag is lower than the rest! I cannot get to the photos until tomorrow, but will post them ASAP!! If I have left something out in this review, let me know and I will do my best to add it. :thanks::thumbup: |
any links to buy it? very interested :D thanks for the review too!

Congrats on the exhaust, it is technically overpipe back since it includes the front pipe. Looks like you are off to a good start, I'm gonna clean the car up tomorrow and send you some pics to get you ready for these wheels!

Can't wait to see.

Here are the photos: Sorry for the really crappy angles and quality, had to make do with a camera phone and no lift. These pics were hard enough to get, but hopefully they will help you guys get a better idea. and now the sound clips
|
Looks nice! Seems like a deal including the high flow cat. I seem to recall reading a bigger over pipe is supposedly where the greatest potential power boost is.
|
Looks really good man, you have a great start going!

This is a tempting exhaust though. I wonder if it can be had with a catless front pipe? |
Are there o2 sensor fittings on this kit... For that matter does the factory system have them?

Long term review: Had this exhaust for about 3 months now. Exhaust is slightly louder than a g35 coupe and doesn't sound blatty. Only time I think it is a little TOO loud is during the warmup when the car turns on but that goes away the second I start moving. No drone at freeway speeds and the material has held up fine in terms of corrosion. I admit there are better looking exhausts out there but if you really care you can polish the tips to make it shine like chrome.
As usual gains are negligable as with any header-back exhaust (maybe 5hp? lol). For the price I paid it's a pretty awesome bargain especially with catback exhausts costing towards 7 or 800 with no high flow cat. If anyone wants sound clips lmk. I can't do interior sound though since I have sound deadening which wouldn't give an accurate representation of interior sound. |
Hey I just bought mine a few days ago and i installed it myself. My question to you is what gasket did u used to connect the front pipe to the catback.? I bought the exhaust without the front pipe and I had a small fitment issue because of the donut gasket from the stock front pipe and to correct it I just purchased the front pipe yesterday.

If I understand this correctly, this system, along with headers and one more piece (overpipe?) is a complete exhaust system?
|
yep
Headers > Overpipe > Front/Downpipe > Midpipe > Axleback Midpipe + Axleback = Catback Tsudo has a Front/Downpipe and a Catback, but they are sold separately (unless you get them as a combo). |
Who makes a good overpipe for a fair price? The shop foreman at the dealership where I get service is putting one of these on his FR-S, which I consider a pretty good endorsement.
|
Private Label MFG makes an OP for ~$200. DC makes one for ~$95, but might be a piece of crap. FT86 carries both.

Love the sound.!

Sorry for taking soo long to get back to you, havent been on the page for a while ever since I joined the tri-state ft 86 club page on FB. The exhaust sounds great! for the price and all I personally think its one of the best sounding exhaust out there. Its not supper loud but at WOT you could be herd from around the block.... I was going to get the Perrin cat-back and im soo happy I saved on money and got a better sounding exhaust. The down-pipe, front pipe what ever people like to call it makes a huge difference. What I like also is that you could here the Boxer rumble while cruising:party0030:. When talking about fitment it could definitly been improved a little but othere than that its a great exhuast.! |
I'm debating between this and the Greddy SP Elite - can anyone compare the two as far as sound goes? Not really worried about power difference, just sound. Looks wise I like the Greddy tips better but the Tsudo looks ok.
|
i love the tsudo. if i didn't need 3" for my turbo i would've saved a few hundred bucks over the perrin and went with this.

Um what??? I feel sorry for the poor soul that will be missing part of the mid pipe.
I do wish it was an extra front pipe though... Attachment 57199 |
It sounds amazing! I just have to let it settle in a little before I give my final opinion.

I have a slight fitment issue (IMO). I'll post pics later.

Has anyone else developed a rattle? I'm a little past 1k miles and I have this metallic rattle.
|
i have this exhaust and everything seems to be great. the only fitment issue i had was to center the tips

So it has settled in after about 1000mi. I'm at the 1700mi mark now. In that 1700 are three 500mi trips. It started to develop a weird rattle. It is coming from the muffler itself. However it goes completely away when it's warm. I got the exhaust from Jon and I have made him aware of it. I'm personally fine with it as long as it gets worse.
