My wife thought I was gonna lose my mind when I got close to the car.
This was my first time seeing one in person. My expression should speak for itself. I vow that before I leave this earth a pearl white version of this beauty shall be mine!

More shots from my best day ever :)

Very nice. Thats looks like the AERO version. Does it come in manual transmission? coz here in my country its only in automatic for the AERO version.

RyPaul 01-03-2013 09:21 PM

Actually the one in the pic was a fully loaded manual version.
Leather heated seats and push button start.
I personally plan to buy a basic version and add rims, kit and spoiler. I am not a fan of leather seats,
I don't mind turning a key and Jamaica is not the kind of place you need help keeping warm :)

Hope the potential owner doesn't get shot by a car thief.

Why?

mines13 01-03-2013 10:16 PM

That car through an official dealer is likely VERY pricey. I bet you can get a gray market for a fair chunk less.

Jamaica like most places has it's share of criminal elements. As with many things in life nowadays you have to be responsible. I would not be driving through certain areas at ungodly times at night or even in the day for that matter. Crime here tends to be fairly localised, you just gotta know which hot spots to stay out of and don't get involved with shady characters and deals. Many of the casualties over here are people who were themselves mixed up in illegal activities. I am not saying that innocents don't get hurt but life here is not the war zone the media and some dramatic people would like the rest of the world to believe. I personally have encountered more criminal activity directed at my person while living outside of Jamaica than in the 25+ years I grew up here.

Nice mate - My dad was born Jamaica - somewhere in Kingston, I forget which area though...

My pearl white one is just coming through customs now :)

I am so jealous.....jk :w00t:
Enjoy your new ride, I won't be able to get mine for a good while, at least not until I return to Jamaica permanently. Where I am now the customs duties on cars are ridiculous so purchasing one and eventually shipping it back home is not even an option. I am a very patient man though and I know in my heart she will be mine soon :happyanim:

My wife and I love Jamaica. We were in St Anns twice in 1 year a while back.

Now, having a NUR spec GT86 AND being in Jamaica, just wow!

You must be in Kingston based on the height of the fence around the dealership. Such a shame but I guess Jamaicans are the type of people that find a way in if they really want to.

On a related note, watched the Bob Marley documentary on Netflix New Years Day.

It is ridiculous!! coz theres only 3 variants here. The standard version M/T, standard version A/T & the Aero version A/T only. It has the aero bodykit plus more red on the steering wheel & seats.

Standard M/T = P 1,550,000
Standard A/T = P 1,650,000
Aero version = P 1,860,000

*add 15,000 for pearl white

Sargy 01-04-2013 11:30 AM

EXPENSIVE!@!!#@$!

Actually as I said is the opening post This was a dealership in Montego Bay, Saint James my city of birth. In actuality I don't think breakins are very common here where dealerships are concerned. Car thieves also target mostly the more common vehicles. The ones they can scrap a stolen vehicle and sell the parts. Corollas are especially popular with the criminal element.
Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself while visiting Jamaica. It is truly a beautiful island and I encourage everyone to visit my homeland at least once in their lives :)

Sadly when I convert that Aero price to Jamaican dollars it pretty much equals what I would pay for it here, actually you pay a bit less now that I think about it.
The customs duty on a car in Jamaica is 100% so basically whatever it costs in the U.S. you basically multiply by 2 and listen to your heart stop beating as you read the total cost of ownership :)
Oh is you think that's bad where I live in Barbados the duty is 200% so Jamaica is the better of the two evils

Sorry I missed that is was in Mobay. I am actually wearing a t shirt from Gran Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay right now! I agree people should visit, but IMHO once in a year!

Is there perhaps a way to circumvent the tax if you buy slightly used and ship from Miami?

Pekingduck 01-04-2013 06:27 PM

Would you be able to use the heated seat in that area? I would imagine it would not be cool enough

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your family's tragedy. I can fully understand why you would make your comment now. It is awful how the evil intentions of some individuals can devastate the lives of so many others.

Well considering it is now 'winter' here and the temperature outside felt
like 30 celcius/ 86 farenheit today I seriously doubt the heated seats will have any use here. :)
Unless somebody wants to try slow cooking a turkey on the passenger seat...

Well the problem is I really want a RHD plus I can bet most sellers are not gonna discount much based on this model's popularity.Even if I did find one cheaper they are still gonna mark it up 100% inclusive of the shipping. I am sure I will find a 'way' when I am ready to buy. I don't have Jamaican hustling blood in me for nothing :)
Just to be clear I am not gonna pull any crazy illegal scheme I just mean I am gonna try and bend the rules without breaking em'
I aint about to go to jail over a car lol... Well at least not before I drive it heh heh!

StOpNG0x 01-04-2013 09:01 PM

I've spent a week on the south side of Jamaica and I have to say, Jamaica is the most beautiful place I've ever been to and the people there are the nicest to say the least.
Great photo and I hope that when I go back soon I see an 86 rolling around :burnrubber:

Sidewayz 01-04-2013 09:02 PM

The US is the most lucky country in the world when it comes to cost of cars. Every car there is alot cheaper (ALMOST HALF). I dunno why they dont get taxed much on cars when they are one of the most developed countries in the world. Guns there too are so cheap. Its like 3X the price here. Hehe. Very lucky. Sometimes I imagine what car I can buy for $45,000 in the US. bmw M3? lotus elise exiga? porsche cayman s?

I can hear the patois in your writing :)

RyPaul 01-05-2013 11:37 AM

Well people might not understand me if I write
'Mi naa gu a nu jail ova nu blouse and skirt cyaar.'
So I kept my post in straight english as best as I could.
I guess I was only mostly successful
:)

Good to see other Jamaicans on this board. I'm full blood Jamaican but I was born in California. haha
