Was this from a website? I am desperately looking for some advanced training so I can get the most out of my FR-S. I live in NYC and it looks like Watkins Glen might be the closest (although I just gave the list a very quick look).

Ohhhh that looks good. I'm also interested in just advanced driver's training. Maybe something at a track. Everything I've found are thinks like "The Jeff Gordon Experience." I don't want to drive a NASCAR stock car.

Have any of you guys looked at renting out a track? Limerock just posted on their facebook page that you can rent out the autocross track, skid pad and an instructor for the whole day for $3000. If we had 10 people to go that would come out to $300 each. Not bad for a full day of drifting!

HAZMAT 01-08-2013 10:05 PM

If enough ofou ar einterested i can rent a huge runway for less than that or the day:-)

I can rustle up some of the top instructors in the region as well...

I've organized some of the largest SOLO schools in the US for the last 10+ years now...

There also wil be a couple of BMW Ato X schoos at Devens that sell ot in 24 hours!

Cheers,
HAZMAT
My other car is a 400WHP EVO X :-)

Tt3Sheppard 01-08-2013 11:38 PM

When are those BMW schools?

HAZMAT 01-08-2013 11:48 PM

The Boston Chapter BMWCC website hanot possted the race days or schools yet.

BUT MOTHERS DAY weekend will be EVO schools or some other sort of school event...

That's ridiculous. You can rent the parking lot at NHMS for $750 + insurance. For drifting, that runs about $550 a day. NHMS is 1/2 the price. I suspect if you skip the instructor you could save some money, though.

Come up to Drift Spot. It's $75 for a full day of drifting. I'm the President and we've doing this for over 5 years now.

Oh, and listen to Steve here. He's been running schools in New England for a long time. I've had the pleasure of attending multiple EVO schools with him. Good stuff.

There any spots outside of the NASA NE where we can go watch races/drifting? I really enjoyed seeing it when I lived out in Japan the past few years.

Wasabi 01-31-2013 12:05 AM

Awesome! I always wanted to properly push the limits of my vehicle in a safe environment.

This will be my first track day, so for all the newbies including myself, what is needed/requirements for a track day?

I don't want to drift btw... not intentionally.

Tt3Sheppard 03-01-2013 05:44 PM

Scda1.com has a track day in april. Perhaps we can get a group together and head down. Will be nice since the track won't be too hot.

I signed up for an AutoX Class at Ft Devens on June 22. Should be real fun and am hoping to learn a lot from the instructors. I'm hoping to try out other events as they come up too.

True, I actually got an SCCA membership last week... and then found out about this :bonk:. I don't have any track experience so this seemed like a good intro.

Honestly... I am a bit scared to bring my car to a real track so I'm sticking with AutoX for now. What was that saying? If you won't push your car off a cliff, you shouldn't track your car.

That is true but I think a big part of it is how much you push it. Thankfully the FR-S is pretty forgiving when the back end comes out but I guess you can't really predict freak accidents.

I don't see any events listed on that site. Just found a couple of 2012 dates. Where do they usually hold the events?

The site is going through a redesign for 2013. For now, you can keep up with the club on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/driftspot/

The events take place in Lot S3 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Here is a picture. The second marker is the lot we use.

Spencer 03-08-2013 10:32 AM

Can you participate in any of these events with just a learners permit ??

davisk6 03-08-2013 11:39 AM

At Drift Spot, our insurance requires that you have a valid driver's license. If you are under 18, you also need to have a parent or guardian attend and sign the minor's waiver before participating.

Steve86 03-10-2013 03:23 PM

I know it's not HPDE, but is anyone planning to go to something like the BMW advanced driving skills school at NHMS?

http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/adss/Default.aspx

Or if you've gone, any quick reviews?

HAZMAT 03-11-2013 12:56 AM

ADSS is a great school for anyone looking for vehicle dynamics training. Wet skid pad, understeer/oversteer, drifting, emergency lane changes, mini autocross, etc.

I taught at a few of these...

Its required by many BMW Chapters for 1st time track driversbeforehand..

HTH,
Steve

A reminder that the BMW Auto X School registration is now open and there are only a few spots still left.

http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/events/...px?EventID=650

3 Different Suto X courses are setup for your driving ppleasure and maximum seat time.

Hope to see some FT86's out there!
