Need Tire recommendations please, non track use
I sold my Gram Lights and Nitto's and want to get some more aggressive tires this time. I am looking at 225/40 and 235/40 on 18x8 +30 and 18x9 +35. I ran them in the offset calculator and they retract 1mm from vubaru's Volk's so i'm happy with the sizing.
I am leaning toward the Continental DW because of their light weight and quiet ride which is important. I don't know anything about Yokohama's(S Drive) or Falkens(FK452) though but some of them look pretty good. If i could find a cheaper alternative to the DW is basically what i'm looking for but will get them if there isn't one. Thanks Guys!!! In order of importance: Ride/Noise Handling/Performance Treadlife |
Not a fan of the DW, frankly I hate them
Doesnt stick like it should, michelin pss and ps2 blow it away |
The Hankook V12 Evo is a great street tire. I personally like the Bridgestone RE760's as well. Both of those are very quiet for summer tires, and when driven hard give you good feedback and let go pretty progressively. The FK452's are LOUD once they get worn a bit. I haven't heard much about the Fk453 yet. Out of the three I've had, the 452's are definitely in 3rd place, albeit still a good tire for the price.
The S.Drives consistently come after the Hankooks and the Bridgestones in most comparos I've seen IIRC. It's been a while since I researched the Bridgestones. Nathan |
I've had the FK-452's on multiple vehicles and they do pretty good. I've got them on the FR-S now in 19's and like them for a DD but still want some more grip. I have a set of Michelin PSS ready to go on the new wheels.

Anybody have any thoughts on the Nitto Invo? What about Toyo also? I don't have a source for them though so they will probably be too high.
|
Michelin PSS. Very streetable.
|
Running 1st gen Michelin Pilot Sports here. Very nice.
|
Michelins are nice but i'm on a budget here, looks like it's going to be DW or Invo i just can't spend anymore than that.
|
I have Michelin Pilot Super Sport...
235/30zr19 front and 255/30zr19 rear (on five axis 8.5/ 9.5 :S5F gunmetal staggered) Great tires!!! :burnrubber: |
Get a square set and PSS has a 30k mile warranty. DW and Invo no warranty. so when you burn them up get a discount on your new set.

worth it |
Hmm, i might be able to do the PSS actually i thought they were closer to 300 a piece than 200. I'd rather not spend that much but might have to see what the fuss is about.
|
Running S drives on my car, they are a great tyre if you want to have fun. Even when the car starts to slide you always feel in control. It isn't like one minute you have grip the next you have none it's gradual. They are also extremely cheap in the US whilst still being a good quality tyre.
For street use I don't see why you'd want extremely grippy tyres with this car. |
I am going with PSS this spring, i just can't decide on wheels. Thinking black on WRB, just can't decide on size and style. Leaning towards RFP1's

Here is a link to his car, i love my FR-S and wanted a WRB BRZ but couldn't be patient. This thing makes me wish i had. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=56 |

Found this thread praising both the DW and Invo for daily use, i just can't drop $800 on tires right now as part of the reason for changing wheels and tires was financial anyways. I have ran Nitto Neogen, NT555, and my current Motivo's and have always been pleased but the DW is a newer design and a little lighter too so i'm still deciding between those two. |
I had the DWs on a previous car. I must say if ride quality is #1 on your list, you can't go wrong with the DWs. They are very comfortable and VERY quiet. I can't compare them to the MPSS, sorry. However if you are thinking about handling first, I wouldn't do the DW. IMO, the sidewalls were a bit soft for what they should be.

ran them ONCE on our 911 quiet yes, sticky, no soft sidewalls are understatement, try jello. then you up the PSI and its ice skate city never again wasted money YMMV choose something else if you cant do the PSS doesnt dunlop make anything for you? gem |
Reading some good things about then Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, price is good and weight is almost as low as the DW. Lot's of the reviews compare them to the PS2 and PS3 so i'm thinking i may give them a shot. I'm not normally a fan of Goodyear because of all the OEM crap they put out but these are made in Germany and look pretty good.
|
I had both the Nitto NT555s and the Conti Extreme Contact DWs.
The Contis have better performance in the rain as well as the best ride quality of any tire I have had in the past. The NT555s have great dry performance, but they are sketchy in the wet. |
Thanks I read that Porsche will be using the f1 asymmetric 2 and the reviews look good, might be noisier than the DW but should perform better. I'm leaning to the F1 assy right now but still got a couple days to decide.
|
just get you some fusion UHP's got that sik tread patter bro lol
I say go F1's |
sumitomo htr z3 if you dont wanna spend alot.
if you have money to blow go with michelin PSS. those would be the only two options IMO. |
If you're really on a budget, what about the Federal 595 RS-R's? Low treadwear rating (They compare the RS3's and Star Specs) but they're really grippy, supposedly pretty quiet, and CHEAP.
Nathan |
I'm not looking for the level of performance the Star Spec and RS3 offer, think a level below that in regards to tread life and noise. I'm set on the DW or F1 Assy, thanks for the other recommendations but those are the two i'm most interested in.

+1 for PSS tires if you can. Great set of tires for street and track. Last year's winning One Lap of America GT-R was running them.
Check out tiretab.com. Great website for comparing prices amongst online retailers. |
