Garagefrs.com

I remember entering a chance to win $10,000 in tuning parts from garagefrs.com, and guess what, I've received an email saying that I have been chosen. Now, I'm kind of skeptical because I have been receiving a lot of junk email lately and I don't want to be a victim of identity theft. Attached to the email is a affidavit requiring SSN, address, driver license and so on.

Is this legit or a scam? Email is from sorc.com

Thanks!

Neziah 01-02-2013 05:15 PM

I would say scam. Contact them directly by phone instead. Although I do not see any way to contact them by looking at their website. I would never send that sort of information by Email.

"The Garage FR-S sweepstakes to win tuning parts for the Scion FR-S is now over – thank you to everyone who entered! Be on the lookout for the December drawing and announcement of the promotion’s three winners on GarageFRS.com"

If it turns out to be real, that is awesome!

zaptorque 01-02-2013 05:24 PM

Yeah, I would call and verify with someone before you start giving out SSNs....

mr2lor 01-02-2013 05:24 PM

I assumed they need all those information for tax purposes since it's well over $600 as stated on their document.

Here's what the email state:

You are the winner of the First Prize Package which consists of the following parts:
• Toyo Tires (4) Tires Proxes T1 Sport up to 20”
• Dai Yoshihara Wheels (4)
• DC Sports Short Ram Intake System & Universal Muffler
• KW Suspension Coilover Kit
• Tanabe Sustec Front Strut Tower Bar
• Tanabe Sustec 4 Point Under Brace
• Mackin R40 KICs lug nuts

It's just under $10,000 worth of parts, but call them to verify and make sure. It sounds legit based on that list and the amount mentioned on the site.

mr2lor 01-02-2013 05:45 PM

Yes, they have a phone number listed on the email. I've already contacted them and was told to get it done by the 15th to get the prize shipped to me. I've talked to a lady who sounds professional and courtesy so hopefully all goes well.

Jwong 01-02-2013 05:50 PM

congrats man! cant wait to see them on your car

m.box.design 01-02-2013 05:56 PM

You should make a thread for Before and After (and in-progress) shots. :)

Hanakuso 01-02-2013 06:13 PM

Congrats (Hopefully).

If I was in your shoes I would do it all in person. Since your location says CA maybe take a trip down to them. I believe they are from Socal so it shouldn't be more then a 5-6 hour drive even if you're from the most northern area of Cali.

Starscream15 01-02-2013 06:17 PM

If the email came from sorc.com thats Source Interlink. I would contact them.

EDIT: Oh, I see you got them on the phone already.. Congrats!

You should find out what their phone number is on the site not the one in the email. Of course the scammer would put a real but not legit phone number in the email.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. They're located in Irvine which I am planning to make a trip to Irvine this Thursday.

i'd pay off the car and pocket the rest. i really don't have the itch to modify this thing, and i'm coming from a modded si.

MTCRX 01-03-2013 05:14 PM

If it is legit congratulations, we are all jealous. But if it looks too good to be true....
Why would they need your SSN, for tax writeoff etc?

Good luck but be careful.

p00mba 01-03-2013 09:39 PM

damn if its real i hate you right now lol... sell me the KW!!!

Jeong 01-03-2013 10:08 PM

I just realized. Garage frs is a super street (the magazine) project so it should be legit. Just saying
