Model year 2014 FR-S and BRZ speculation and discussion

For nothing more than the sake of conversation, what changes do you expect to see in the 2014 model and what changes would you hope to see in the 2014 model?

Expect

I would be surprised if they don't relocate the third brake light. I think the panel that holds the Scion badge would be a good place to incorporate it.

I think they could do a lot better job in the design of the rear tail lights to make them more compatable to the contour of the surrounding sheet metal.

The seat belt attachment to the front seats is a long way from being satisfactory and could be improved.

Hope

I hope they eliminate the analog speedometer and replace it with some other instruments.

I hope they eliminate the Corolla heater controls and makes the night time lighting behind all the instruments the same color.

I hope they eliminate some of the fake stuff on the outside appearance. If you make something that looks like a ventilator, make it a real ventilator and not fake like it presently is on the front fenders and the front fascia.

I think history has shown that the designers of most new model cars hold back on some of their design ideas so they can do as much as they can to make the new model year more appealing. It's a lot to look forward to but if they did these things I'd sure be talking trade with them.

Mmmm this may have been done and still on going

Yeah, apparently something I missed. First mistake I ever made! :)

It's ok, because you have a sweet Snoopy pic for an avatar.

I see marginal power boosts, most of the discussion will be about "cleaning up" the driving experience. So some work on suspension, possibly different rim/tire set up and factory tuning to remove the tq dip a little. Also see some interior changes in terms of options.

maybe a new spoiler choice? high end model with HID's as a possibility.

Ayaz2589 01-02-2013 12:32 PM

personally i dont think the 2014 model is going to be too different from the current model, however the 2015 model might be a different story.

cobrabyte 01-02-2013 12:40 PM

I don't think they can legally remove the analog speedo. It'd be nice but I don't think it's going to happen. :(

Burrcold 01-02-2013 12:48 PM

I'll guarantee no changes to the exterior will be made, until the mid-cycle refresh. It's WAY too expensive to retool when there is clearly no lack of demand for the current model.

Doesn't the civic Si have a digital speedometer only?

Drove an egg-shaped Civic recently, definitely no analog speedo.

Samething with the S2000.

bestwheelbase 01-02-2013 03:11 PM

What's wrong with an analog speedo? I like 'em. They're charming.

The FR-S analog speedo is pointless with too many numbers. The needle barely moves. :bellyroll:

I think for '14, there were talks of some minor engine tweaks but overall I would expect more available options; fogs, pushstart...

I never look at it. Beyond that, the spacing between speeds is ridiculous. 60MPH isn't close to where it should be to be a meaningful input.

brzninja 01-02-2013 03:20 PM

1. Suicide doors.
2. Bigger spoiler.
3. Moar power.

tripjammer 01-02-2013 08:08 PM

Slight engine tweaks
TRD Lowering springs
Better stock stereo with rearview camera
TRD exhaust
TRD body kit
Special color (yellow)
Exhaust/sound charger sound tweaks

Carbon420 01-02-2013 09:20 PM

I'd like to see a better stock stereo and a spoiler most. I would also rather it be just a straight up two seated with a better way for cargo storage. The engine is nice but a bit more power would be nice. And the seatbelt clip is screwed up. Part of my rather a two seated option idea. Also a bit more leg room for taller drivers.

I think they'll put a big vinyl of Chuck Norris kicking a Honda logo in the balls on the hood.

I know exactly as much about the 2014 model as anyone else posting in this thread.

We should be fortunate that we have analog speedo. Some people aren't so lucky, like our Japanese friends with an 86 G or RC, or the Australians with a GT Base.

Bullitt44 01-02-2013 09:28 PM

it will just get more expensive.

Source on this? Isn't it way too early to be certain?

Well bigger spoilers = more power (think supra and wrx sti), and rolls royces have suicide doors, and everyone likes rolls royces.

Speedy000 01-02-2013 09:39 PM

odds r that nothing changes at all except more available options and different colors to choose from. just from seeing how scion has dealt with all their previous models.

OMG you guys what do you think the 2015 FR-S will be like? Or better yet how about the 2020 FR-S?

I bet 6 wheel drive and 500HP quad turbo.

WTF is wrong with you?

That's the 2021 MODEL!

wbradley 01-02-2013 09:54 PM

Options? From Scion? Like what...swag? Seriously the dealers here have only the 5AD option here. Probably $2500 +tx painted and installed.

I'm happy with my car and dealer so far. It just seems like maybe they miss out on profit potential of having decent aftermarket support in house. Maybe not since its tough to compete with so many great vendors here. And warranty.

Comparing a FR-S/BRZ to a Rolls-Royce is like comparing a fancy restaurant to McDonald's. Besides, suicide doors have hardly been around lately. Why need it?

1. Joke.
2. Joke.
3. Sorta serious as long as it doesn't ruin the balance of the current car.

KaliKev 01-02-2013 10:46 PM

1. 205-210hp with a slightly changed engine.
2. Different Wheels
3. Minor interior changes.

Jedi1 01-02-2013 10:56 PM

So many things could work where the useless analog speedo takes up space. I wouldn't know if the needle in out car even works. I NEVER look at it.

LeeMaster 01-02-2013 10:57 PM

1 NOS
2 Neon lights
3 Body kit with Spoiler
4 AMP Subwoofer sound system
5 Bigger chrome 24" wheels and tyres

You're crazy if you think they will make these changes after one model year.

TheRipler 01-02-2013 11:13 PM

+$500 MSRP

Toyota did the exact thing with the FJ...

I believe it was the 3rd model year they increased the horsepower and changed the engine but they still changed quite a few things the 2nd year.

They changed things with the engine in the second year because they were having huge warranty claims. Nothing to do with increased performance. Believe me, if they don't HAVE to change things, they won't. I worked long enough in Toyota product dev. to know this.
