Another headlight black out, with a twist.

So I got bored, decided to black the headlights and add demon eyes. Haven't seen the demon eyes on the twins yet. If it has been done I apologize for posting another headlight blackout.

Aesthetically, I love it! But wouldn't this cause the headlights to shine red? I believe that's illegal everywhere (correct me if I'm wrong). If the cops in your area are lenient about lighting laws, then that's cool. But I wouldn't be able to get away with that here.

mikeg7827 01-01-2013 09:32 PM

unless its for "off road" or "show" use only? would definitely give a cool terminator eye effect if its a nice red lol

i wish i had the guts to do stuff like this.. u guys got some chops!

Asphalt~86 01-01-2013 09:34 PM

I was wondering the legality of it as well with the lights being on.

Gixxersixxerman 01-01-2013 09:37 PM

Lol.. Been done.. I did it a month ago...
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22929

And no it's not illegal, you paint the plate red and the projector just shows that red instead of silver.. I've seen black, green, blue.. Of course the lighter the color the more you'll notice it

I want to see what they look like on! BAD ASS DUDE!

Hardrock4445 01-01-2013 09:50 PM

Gixxer, looks good, I did mine with LED's on the reflector instead of paint. They will be wired to a switch so they can be turned off, and they are really for show only, I knew i'd get the riot act on that. They are basically for leaving on when parked at the boulevard on friday and saturday nights.

Gixxersixxerman 01-01-2013 09:55 PM

Gotcha.. I've seen that done, I seen the led left on for days to with no battery drain lol.. I just went the paint method and with the angle eyes on mine light up a bit.. You mount the led below??? And what size led?? Autozone kit, or a circuit you made yourself

Dude, I'm a 4 hour drive, but bring some brews and lets do some shit to that ride.

Hardrock4445 01-01-2013 09:57 PM

Below, autozone stuff, its a 194 red LED and a 194 holder

Gixxersixxerman 01-01-2013 10:01 PM

Lee358 01-01-2013 10:06 PM

I was going to do this months ago but i got tied up, was also going to do LED. Where did you mount the led for the best light output?

Under the cut off, drilled the reflector housing. Pointing straight up at the cut off. Seemed to be the best output at that angle. Used 194 style holder has 4 LEDs.

What about with the head lights on? Damn that looks evil!

Hardrock4445 01-03-2013 08:47 PM

Headlights on, view from car normal, view looking right at headlight you can occasionally notice a red tinge, but wired on a separate switch so can be turned off when driving. I unplugged dr. side headlight to compare. High beam reflector caught camera flash on pass. Side.

I don't know that I would attempt to head the BRZ headlights in the oven (or at all). Just remember how heat sensitive leds are. You more than likely run the risk of killing all the leds in your headlights. But to whom ever actually does try this with their BRZ; let me know how it goes.

just86 01-16-2013 03:26 PM

"blackout headlights with some rice" is more like it
