Annoying Mustangs

Why do Mustang owners with their big V8 engines insist on racing me (FR-S) at every stop light? Yes, you will beat me every time, congrats on your straight line pedal-to-the-metal driving skills. Please keep in mind, there's more to life than 0 to 60. But if it makes you happy to race a car that is completely out of your class, feel free to stomp away. I enjoy the sound of a good exhaust note.

Celica00 01-01-2013 06:23 PM

some people only care about 0-60. they buy muscle cars. just let them think they're the gods of everything.

OrbitalEllipses 01-01-2013 06:26 PM

I had an old 5L Stang sitting next to me at a light, waiting for the left turn arrow. He was revving the whole time and then dumped the clutch into the turn after I passed him when the light turned green.

Because going in a straight line is all they know how to do. Yes, some guys track their Mustangs, but most drag race as their form of competitive motor sports. My prior car was a 2005 Mustang GT with 5 speed manual. It was fun to pass five cars going up an uphill on ramp redlining it in 3rd gear. But it's just as fun to hit turns at high speed with the FR-S. It's just a different thrill.

Lonewolf 01-01-2013 06:30 PM

Let them waster their gas. Besides, they'll be the ones getting a ticket as you cruise on by...

Many Mustang/BMW drivers seem to have quite the complex based on personal experience...

mact 01-01-2013 06:31 PM

They think they look real cool, but in reality people are secretly laughing at them.

JDMenrique 01-01-2013 06:31 PM

Out of their class in a straight line perhaps cuz the 300hp V6 needs a specific track package to beat us where it actually matters. And that's us still rolling on Prius tires.

When I had my DSM it was always riced-out civics and mustangs...I mean always. I still remember when I messed with a gutted-looking eg civic hatch by revving in response to him at a light. He went for it, I left leisurely...he got a ticket down the block

Mrazn 01-01-2013 06:52 PM

I had a similar experience this past Saturday, a dodge challenger was tailgaiting me for a while, i had to change lanes to get on my freeway to go home. So he zooms on by and i see a cop on a bike pull him over. lols.

Dave-ROR 01-01-2013 06:53 PM

<< has never had a mustang rev on any of my cars.

encity5 01-01-2013 06:53 PM

even if they insist on racing, just dont. issue solved.

let them roar their engines, thats why they got a stang. they like to be loud, even if its going less than 10mph....

bmxbandit 01-01-2013 06:56 PM

so funny to be on so may different car forums reading about all the stereotyping of one car or another.
i've got 2 mustangs (one v6 & one v8) and a camaro ss. i've been a TRUE car enthusiast the entire time. meaning i love all cars and can appreciate them for what they are. i can't wait to add a FR-S to my collection.
so continue to bash but i promise you not all mustang owners are d-bags who think they rule the streets but completely understand where you come from as i catch hell on mustang forums for owning a v6 as well as a chevy. and vice versa on the chevy boards.

Exhaust 01-01-2013 07:00 PM

Let these jabroni's continue to be just that, they are the guys we see all over google images with their cars totaled and them sitting on the sidewalk with their faces in their hands. All upset lol

Rayme 01-01-2013 07:01 PM

I'm more annoyed of people saying they're annoyed of people wanting to race than people who wants to race. Just move along people!

lots of statements in this paragraph kind of offend me. am i not a car enthusiast becuase i dont like stangs treating the road like a drag strip?

bmxbandit 01-01-2013 07:26 PM

lots of people from each group of cars ruin it for the masses. thus where the stereotypes come from.
dont want to offend anyone. it would just be nice if everyone could appreciate each car culture for its unique differences.

dorifuto 01-01-2013 07:28 PM

A new gt mustang can stick the corners just as good as us. The only difference is they stomp our gutless cars out of the turns. I love my car but I talk to Alot of people who assume these new muscle cars handle like fat chicks on roller skates. It's just not so.

Craig 01-01-2013 07:29 PM

Another 'A car revved their engine at me' thread. Is it possible that this may be the way these people drive on a daily basis? I'm just saying, the twins are popular but not everyone's out to get us...We're not the centre of the universe.

Let Douchebags be Douchebages.

I will say one good thing about Mustangs. There's nothing like the rumble of their V8.

Neither have I, actually. But when I owned my Mustang, I had people with all sorts of vehicles revving at me. I can say that I'd never actually challenged anyone, but there were plenty of times I revved my engine just to hear that glorious 5.0.

A5D5TRYR 01-01-2013 07:54 PM

One thing I've had happen to me a couple times is that I'll take off from a light a little spiritedly, mostly cause I try to get a good pull on the car each time I drive it to seat the rings, etc, and the person beside me at the light will come storming up to catch up with me like they need to prove that had they known it was a race (which it wasn't) they would've won. Then at the next light I can tell they're gonna try and race me so I take off leisurely from the light and they take off as fast as they friggin can. Makes me laugh a little to be honest, but it always seems to be SUV type vehicles that do this to me.

Cjm005 01-01-2013 07:56 PM

Lots of crud in here. There are just as many d-bags driving civics or sentras. The reason you see more mustangs trying to race is because they are usually (at least GT) driven by car guys. I hardly ever see guys in Camaro or Challenger picking fights. Go to the drag strip or road course and more mustangs than others combined.

Cheap and fast....

This. Regardless of vehicle, a douchebag will be a douchebag. Having been around dragging and Mustangs for a while (67 GT500, 68 Fastback, 01 GT, 04 Mach 1, 12 GT, 13 GT), they're definitely not all like that.

I've already encountered other FR-S/BRZ drivers acting like asshats.

LOVE the FR-S, great DD and road car, but I look forward to getting a weekend/dedicated drag monster Mustang in a couple years. Different kind of fun.

I guess. I don't really get revved on by any type of car more than any other. The car isn't the common theme, it's the type of owner.

charger 01-01-2013 08:24 PM

Only car to rev at me was a red FRS. He was just trying to get my attention and gave me a thumbs up.

joop1987 01-01-2013 08:41 PM

I had a 2002 Mustang GT for 10 years and would not get another one. The retro style, Chinese built transmission, too heavy, and solid axle made me not get a new one. At $35-40K, I wouldn't call them cheap ether.

(And I don't consider the V6 Mustang a real Mustang)

Agree! Here's a clip of my friends 12 Boss 302 that he had cammed & tuned. He later ended up being the first Kenne Bell SC'd Boss and made it into 5.0 Mustang magazine. The car was a MONSTER! 783rwhp on C16 and around 650rwhp on pump. I'll have to see if I can find any videos of it in action.

So far I haven't been revved at or any cars wanting to go at it. I maybe because I'm just chilling trying not to attract attention. The only heat I get is from my coworker who insists that his 300 hp wrx is way faster than mine on any course straight or curvy.

I really appreciate a large variety of cars, people assume i am just a ricer because of my scion but i end up knowing more about their car than they even do...

Fyi i have beaten plenty of faster cars, its all about how well you drive your car, i even raced (in mexico) an rsx-s with ihe, i got an absolute perfect launch and beat him by a car up to 100 ish mph also took down a 1.8T audi a4 and a volvo T50 wagon, long story short there is absolutely no better feeling when asked "what do you have done on your car? Um nothing bone stock...that is followed by a blank stare lol

If you think mustang drivers are tools dont get me started on SRT4s haha

No I dont actually but thanks, since I referred to the type of people rather than the car they drive. My opinion is not biased, nice try though.

Gixxersixxerman 01-01-2013 09:48 PM

So far I've only had one car rev on me.. A older WS6 trans am with no muffler.. Looked like it had a y pipe and that's it right behind the axle.. The guy kept on and on.. But I never even looked over at him.. I'm to old to drag race on the street.. And to smart to know what's going to beat me lol..

Now at the track, nothing that day was more satisfying then catching up to and staying with a C6 Z06.. He got me down the straight every time, but I'd catch him by the 3rd corner and stay on him the rest of the way except the back straight at streets of willow.. He wasn't holding me up, but that was fun to me.. I'd rather do that anyway of the week the drag race down a strip ...

That said I wouldn't mind making a drag specific car again.. I did enjoy drag racing

dem00n 01-01-2013 09:48 PM

Well, the Mustang is kind of know for this...racing at stop lights. Its the whole point of a muscle car, not everyone goes to the quarter mile.

Though i'm sure in time will see the FRS/BRZ turned into dragsters...these cars will be dirt cheap eventually.

Agreed! My dad raised his girl right, to be a true car enthusiast! The car I traded in for my FR-S was a v6 Mustang A/T, she turned 16 years old, I drove her for the last 12.5 years and that was one of my dream cars to own as a kid. Those who hate on muscle cars or exotics that cost as much as a house or cars that go slow in a straight line but make you piss your pants on a curve are no better than the other person. Let these red light hot heads have their glory and just enjoy your car....you bought the car for yourself, not for the hot heads!

I hate ford in general... they suck! None have tried to race me... I oblige them if they do, but only at the jump... after that I stop and let them fly by... by that time they have slowed down approaching the light, light turns green, I'm still revved up while they are braking.... FLY RIGHT BY!!! Done and DONE!
