WTF SoCal?!

Just moved Aliso Viejo yesterday and I have to say WOW it is amazing down here. Going from a flat Texas to all these hills and winding roads is awesome!

The one thing that I noticed rather quickly though is that people are completely retarded when it comes to right of way here. Yes, pedestrians have the right of way, but that doesn't mean my car won't injure or kill you if you walk out in front of it. I was absolutely amazed at the fact that people don't even look to see if a car is coming. They just assume that they will stop. Were you guys not taught to look both ways before crossing? Also, this wasn't just one person. It seems everyone has this mindset.

People are retarded here on many many levels. On behalf of them I apologize. Welcome to the OC.

CircuitJerk 12-31-2012 01:24 AM

I remember moving to the OC from the Midwest and I used to ride my mountain bike a lot when I first got there just exploring. I was amazed at how people were always looking out, slowing down or stopping to let me go. I was shocked!

Gixxersixxerman 12-31-2012 02:13 AM

Wait till you spend some time on our so cal highways.. Around here the 15.. The fast lane is the right lane.. No one is in it.. Where as everyone is cruising under the speed limit in the left lane lol

luxmn 12-31-2012 02:16 AM

wait you tell me "road kill" is not a proper response when you hit one of those morons over there? sh!t.

dem00n 12-31-2012 02:20 AM

Dare i say no one can call themselves a driver till you drove in New York City...

Sometimes you have to plow your car slowly into people in order to turn into street where people are walking to get across.

They don't even look at you, they keep walking like nothings there, and don't touch the hood of my car or i'll cut your fucking fingers off.
Wait you say? You can't wait...

Estey 12-31-2012 03:08 AM

welcome to the OC! unfortunately youll find yourself being pissed at a lot of the idiot drivers/pedestrians we have here in socal and at times the asshole cops. Other than that its a pretty damn good place to live

Giccin 12-31-2012 03:56 AM

Welcome to OC! :D

Now you will also witness and feel the rage from all the stupid drivers! :)

Also, if you're interested there's a huge car meet in Costa Mesa.
https://www.facebook.com/events/325526720894817/

Its on New Years morning. Its called "Tour D Orange" so you'll get to check out everything and see all the stupidly rich people in Newport and Irvine! :D The "Hollywood" of OC!
:>

lol yup, in California people think the correct side to pass on is the right, but aside from that, I did notice that in Socal indeed the right lane is where all the people blasting by at 100mph are. I feel like when I drive down there, about 50% of the time there is someone tailgating and weaving through all the cars, and every few hours there is someone zooming by at over 100mph, and then some time later they are stopped on the side of the road with a cop giving them a ticket :bellyroll:

Welcome. I'm at ladera so I'm sure I'll be seeing you around. What color do you have?

I've been driving my mom around a lot lately in the Philippines, you guys have no idea how fucking crazy it is over here. Whatever you are experiencing in the OC, multiply it by 100.
I had to change my whole driving paradigm midset, or else I would be dead, or would have made some people dead too.... lol...

Same is so F**King true in SD County. Even better is when they are 3 in a row in lanes 1-3 doing 65.

That's why I owned a Superbike in SD, lane splitting was the only way to survive there on a bike!

It's not just SoCal, it is a Pacific states thing. From Washington to California, and probably some states around the Rockies, people on foot are taught that they have the right of way no matter what. Don't look, don't bother paying attention, avoid cross walks at all costs... just walk out in front of everything. If they get hit by a car, they win... big time. If they don't then they at least get to revel in the smug feeling that they slowed someone down on their way to kill little puppies and children with their noxious exhaust spewing vehicle. :scared0016:

I was watching a friend take an online traffic school course, and I found an interesting fact.

If you hit a pedestrian when they're J-walking its the pedestrian's fault. Same in plaza parking lots. Unless you're reversing. That's your fault. Lol

Sigma6 12-31-2012 03:57 PM

All good and all but when in front of a judge, who would the judge side with? LOL

I think just about anywhere in the States a pedestrian has the right of way...when in the crosswalk. I think the only time you'll find someone prosecuted for hitting a pedestrian that was j-walking is if the driver was intoxicated or doing something criminal.

I think in New York it's the pedestrian's job not to get hit. They had huge signs everywhere when I was visiting Annapolis telling people to yield to pedestrians because the New York drivers there forget that the law is different in MD.

I guess... but if it were me I would tell the judge the pedestrian is an idiot. There was a light 20ft away from him and he decided to walk infront of a legion of on coming cars.

I hate pedestrians... except when I am one. :P

Not saying it would be there fault if I hit them. Just saying why the hell would you risk it? If anything you'll end up getting hit and ruining the life of the driver

I got rear ended and pushed into the car in front me in Texas on the 24th): I posted a thread about it. Luckily it wasn't my fault and ill probably be in another FRS shortly. I had black but I'm looking into getting silver or orange.

People thinking about somebody else's welfare? :bellyroll: What planet are you from?

Shagaliscious 12-31-2012 09:43 PM

Here in PA, if a pedestrian isn't in a crosswalk, they are fair game. You hit them, it is their fault. If they are in a crosswalk, you have to stop (although most pedestrians don't expect you to stop).

Exactly, is just so strange to me that they would put there life in the drivers hands. I wouldn't trust anyone to stop for me.
