Excellent! Do you mind sharing the specs on the Weds and rubber?
How's the Tein tuning? Overall drop and characteristics?

Thus far, you have the most ideal 'all function' setup I've seen. Certainly the route I'll be headed.

This thread is worthless w/o specs !!

Impressions on the mods would be good too. Im looking to set my car up as well balanced and functional as possible.

CSG Mike 01-01-2013 05:52 PM

All specs as requested; we believe that all info on the car should be freely shared. :) Except for the parts noted below, our car is stock. No intake, no ECU tune, no camber arms, no gutting. Our goal is to keep it simple, while maximizing functionality. As always, we only sell products we would put on our own car, and everything listed below is available for purchase except for tires; we don't do tires.

- Tein SRC coilovers
- Street tire setup:
-- Enkei RPF1 17x8 +45
-- Hankook Ventus RS3 225/45/17
- R-comp setup:
-- Wedsport TC105N 17x9 +35
-- Maxxis Victra RC1 235/40/17
- AP Racing/Essex Sprint big brake kit
- Carbotech XP12 front and rear brake pads
- Berk Technology axleback exhaust prototype (so the car isn't completely quiet!)

Alignment Specs:
-3.3 Front Camber
-2.4 Rear camber
1/16" total front toe-in
1/16" total rear toe-in

Suspension setup:
10k front 12k rear springs for street tires
12k front 14k rear springs for r-comp tires
1.4 inch drop front and rear

Fluids:
Motul RBF600 brake fluid (We used Project Mu G-four before the BBK)

I'll be posting a writeup on the Teins soon. I've been testing at the track, as well as canyoning and daily driving for that exact purpose :)

The SRCs are spectacular. While a full writeup is coming, the car, as it sits, currently owns the street tire records for the platform at Buttonwillow, Willow Springs International Raceway, and the Streets of Willow Springs.

Here's a video of the car in action with the street tire setup.

Flow 01-01-2013 06:46 PM

Thanks for the vid.

A bit off topic, but at :29-:32 & :53-:55, there is a high-frequency sound ... any idea what that is? (I think I've got the same thing, at it's been stumping me).

CSG Mike 01-01-2013 07:15 PM

The squeeling is the brake pads.... If that's what you're referring to..

Flow 01-01-2013 09:57 PM

Ok, tks. Nah, mines this high-pitched whine when I'm shifting. I'm pretty sure its from slipping the clutch, so I was hoping yours was the same thing (and then I'd have some more off-topic questions. :bonk:)

If you do some really fast shifts without letting the RPMs fall, then it'll make a high pitched squeak/chirp sound, but I wasn't doing that in the video; we don't want to beat our tranny up TOO much

Jay Jr 01-02-2013 09:10 AM

That street tire record lap video is badass! Think I've watched it about ten times already
It just goes to show how well a properly tuned suspension setup can lay it down. Many are so wrapped up in making power before nailing the chassis dynamics. CSG is my idol build.

Now, I really want to see a lap on the R compounds!

wow thats some on the edge driving...

btw your only 2 seconds and some change slower than randy Pobst, when he was driving a 2010 mustang gt500

your time 1:25.86 200hp (were you at stock power levels?)
randy in the '10 gt500 1:23.48 558hp hrmmm... lol

Yes, the power is completely stock, although we have some plans to add power in the future ;)

How experienced and comfortable is Darin doing custom alignments at West End with the FRS/BRZ? I remember going there with my S2000 and he seemed to basically know everything about the S2000 regarding alignment changes.

pat yourself on the back then, nice lap times, and this only proves that the FRS/BRZ is faster than a new v6 even with a track package by just adding the proper tires (i know you have suspension upgrades ect but the tires had a BIG role in it)

and thank you TOYOTA and SUABRU great job on such a fantastic car... handling is really leagues ahead of its price point

He's the only place I'll ever take my personal cars to for alignments. Our shop car is aligned there as well.

The more specific you are with your requests with him, the more tricks he'll pull out of his (seemingly bottomless) bag. Alignments and brakes are ALL Darin and Chris do, and they're booked up weeks in advance for a reason!:confused0068: The key here is knowing what exactly you want, or what issue you want to address. If you go in saying "I want the most aggressive track alignment possible", you're not going to get anywhere. If you go in saying "I'm struggling with lack of response on initial turn-in, but steady state cornering is good, and powering out is also good", he'll have a recommendation for you.

It's faster than my s2000... and I love my s2000. I wholeheartedly admit that it's faster, although given a choice, I'd still buy an s2000... emotional purchase I suppose... same reason I want a NSX. I know it's not fast.

i want an NSX because i know it would have problems just enough to where i could stay emotionally attached to it, i wont become attached to my FRS till i break something and have to fix it lol... could be a while...

I've driven this car on a quick test drive and the SRC's are indeed fantastic. I would never have guessed that the spring rates are as high as they are, or that Tein had the tech to make such a nice setup. The AP's felt amazing as well. It made me truly excited to learn my car well enough that I can properly modify it. :)

I just want to say thanks to Mike for the advice today, i went with comfort over performance with my first suspension and tire choices but he has helped me develop a plan to get the performance that i'm wanting back. I have done so much research but when your priorties change and you have to start from scratch it's nice to have people like this to help.

Captain Insano 01-03-2013 11:14 PM

They're not available for purchase yet... they were provided by Maxxis for testing and feedback :D

For your 8" RPF1's; Why did you choose 225's?

chenshuo 01-23-2013 12:40 PM

Just look at how many stickers that car has, it must be super awesome!

We thought each one would add 5 hp, but that doesn't seem to be the case :(

It seems to be the fastest for a naturally aspirated car...

Both cars look great! I'd take either of those any day of the week! Voltex needs to make some aero for the BRZ/FRS already.

This is how much we like our AP Racing big brake kit... a small selection of the pads we carry for it now! These also fit the Wilwood SL6R
