Help with under the trunk?
Hi guys. sorry about this but before i ask for help i just gotta say: FML. nothing is going right for me this christmas.
firstly, i tried tinting me tails and they turned out like SHIT and i had to remove the tint and all which was a painful process in which i accidentally cracked the tails a little bit coz i was rubbing too hard. now on the the actual topic, while removing the tails, i left the bolts and rivets INSIDE on the trunk. then, while unscrewing a bolt, i accidentally DROPPED my fking wrench into under the trunk so me, being the fking retard i am, LIFTED the trunk liner thing coz the wrench fell into the spare tire area. AND BECAUSE there were bolts and rivets on it, ONE rivet fell into the spare tire area and it got lost. now i know some of you will say its ok and all but i havnt been able to sleep these few nights due to the ocd part of my brain. pls help me. any ways or suggestions? its just one rivet thats stuck under the spare tire area. how do i remove that sucker? thanks so much guys. really appreciate it. |
disclaimer: *i don't have one, so i can't check to see if this would work*
if you have one of those magnetic bolt grabbers, you could probably wiggle it around down there and snag it |
Stereo magnet will find it just fine.

lol
|
sorry i forgot to clarify, the rivet is plastic. magnets wont work.
|
um....the good magnet grabber thingies have claws (mine does), maybe you can grab it with that

honestly, i can't remember what brand mine is. i picked it up at an auto parts store. if you go and play with some of them, they should have little arms that come out by the magnet. you may be able to find one that's higher quality than mine is (shouldn't be too difficult), and it is a useful thing to have

I know what you mean hopefully you can see something with the flashlight and grab it with a grabber or something along those lines.

I'm fairly OCD about my car haha keep us posted! Mines in the shop for the CEL or I'd take a look under the mat to hopefully look at it from a different angle
|
I haven't had to look for nooks and crannies in the trunk so this is just an idea.
If it's wedged in somewhere? Use a utility knife or one of those breakaway knives to pop it out. |
ever think about taking out the spare tire.......
you can go to subaru and buy em if you really want to |
Drink/smoke a blunt/get therapy. Whatever you do, fuggeddaboudit!

Blowit out with compressed air

ok guys, a little update. i tried using a high powered flashlight to try looking for it but i couldnt find it. i took some pictures of my guess of its whereabouts. anyone know what i can try doing next? or how do i access these areas? thanks all.
so its either in here http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/9...2122811580.jpg http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/6...2122811575.jpg or in here http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/7...2122811574.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/557...2122811573.jpg to be honest i think its this area. but thats just my guess. |
Have you taken out all the styrofoam(spelling?) tool holders and such? The big plastic rivets just pop out.
I can't imagine it would be hard to find once you remove all that stuff. |

Ive had plastic rivets fall into those holes before. Its not too terrible. You have to remove the large inside panels that cover the rear speakers. If you look for the thread on how to remove the third brake light it has step by step instructions.

There are spots right below the tail lights that stuff likes to fall into, pull out all the foam around the spare and look in those. Every time I dropped my wrench, that's where it went...

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...S/DSC01620.jpg I thought that thread showed how to remove that, didn't look through it before posting the link. Once you do what he shows in that thread through step 2, you'll want to remove some of the door molding around the large panel and the piece of plastic on the bottom of your door frame, then that big panel will come out by just popping out a bunch of clips. There is probably another thread with more details, search around in the audio forum for instructions on how to replace the rear speakers. You should find some help. Good luck and hope you find the rivets. |

In my opinion, quit poking around before you do more damage. You lost a rivet? Live with it. Unless it makes an obtuse amount of noise or causes some sort of lack of functionality, quit while you're ahead.
Also, look at my member journal and check out my tail lights. Took about 30 minutes and required no tools at all besides a bit of masking tape and plastic lining :) |
Try a big shop vac and see if you can vacuum it out of the nook or cranny that its hiding in. If you haven't moved the car around, it probably just out of sight and the vac may pull it out.
Happy hunting...:eyebulge: |
