What do you do to protect your wheels?

I hope this is in the right section, if not please move it.

Hey guys,

I woke up this morning and went outside, and my neighbors Suburban was on blocks. This has my scared of what might happen to my FR-S.
I plan on getting rims and tires someday, and i'm curious as to what type of lugs, or other protection is the best.
Is there a better locking lugs to use?

Wheel locks will provide some deterrent, but if they are good and really want, they will get them. If you are in a bad neighborhood, don't waste your money on fancy wheels

JoeBoxer 12-28-2012 01:02 AM

Get some good wheel locks, a lot of tuner lugs use the same key so it's not really much security. Alarm with shock sensor would be nice too.

g0lden 12-28-2012 01:18 AM

Someone needs to come up with a better locking system for the rims and tires.

I like the idea of an alarm, I just dont want to hack into my wiring, and carry an extra key fob around. Theft proof locks are the way to go. we need more innovation though.

I park in our garage and don't run into curbs. Sorry. I shouldn't have posted this, but it was just irresistable! LOL

luxmn 12-28-2012 01:26 AM

I have two radical solutions that I want to try

1. GPS chip they are getting inexpensive nowadays, couple it with a phone app and its easy to track them down.

2. Poison that creates instant rash and lightheadedness (maybe even herbes if you're evil). Couple that with an alarm and you can kick their asses while waiting for the cops.

I prefer 2 cause I hate effing thieves.

Hook up a some sort of electrical source to each rim, zap the bitches!

I've used a combination of tuner lugs and a wheel lock.
Requires two special keys rather than just one.
I know if they want them they'll get them, and the ones that do it all the time probably have most on hand. I've seen collections first hand.

A good motion or shock alarm is another good layer but can be a nuisance.
And yeah, if you park in sketchy areas where that happens regularly, it's probably not in your best interest to own really nice rims.

JoeBoxer 12-28-2012 01:59 AM

Only upside of 5x100 bolt pattern, not as much market for stolen wheels...

g0lden 12-28-2012 02:33 AM

I also hate eff'in thieves!
Them bitches got my Rota GT3's when I had my Integra.
I like this brain storming on new ideas though. I'd do, and try just about anything to make them nearly impossible to steal. Was planning on wiring a camera to a motion sensor and aiming it at my car.

a lot of aftermarket wheels provide their own custom way of protecting their products . for example, Enkei rims have a special key that has to be used to remove all 5 lugs . just makes it harder to take . of course if u live near scetchy areas you prob shouldn't buy a set of Volks, for example

g0lden 12-28-2012 03:13 AM

If I get any rims they are going to be some Rota's most likely....possibly the Enkei RPF1's. But any how, It really sucks coming out to see your car on blocks, or even worse just dropped on the ground like my Intergra was. That shit totally fucked up my 98 conversion.

Wheels. They're called wheels..

Shock alarm and WHEEL locks but as previously stated, if they want the wheels bad enough they'll find a way to take them.

I'm a firm believer if a thief wants something bad enough there going to steal it all we can do is make it as difficult as possible and insure the crap out of it.

Same here one little lug/bolt isn't going to stop a determined person one bit especially if they know what they're doing and have the time to leave a vehicle on blocks.

n2oinferno 12-28-2012 11:31 AM

I keep my car in a garage. IMO, that's about the only thing you can do. If they want it, they'll find a way.

I don't know. A lawyer and lawsuit are probably more expensive than a set of wheels. Cause you're definitely going to get sued for that one.

BlaineWasHere 12-28-2012 11:51 AM

Park on a steep hill.

You're right, I need a more deadly poison. No witnesses!

Lol

Lonewolf 12-28-2012 04:58 PM

Cover your wheels in dog crap...no one will want to steal them

Chain them to the frame. Or take them off at night I lived in Detroit and have seen both methods lol I've also seen a chain from the frame to a tree

This seems like a very good idea. Unfortunatley I don't think my home owners of my condominium are going to approve a huge parking ramp LOL.
