And that is why I don't live up north anymore.

Is that what snow looks like...that's like frozen water right?

This is the rare 4th state of water known as hell-snow; it immobilizes your vehicle, causes back pain, and even death in some cases.

I left mine buried this morning and took a less attractive vehicle to work.

Jayde 12-27-2012 10:10 AM

Snow tires my friend. Though, with snow that deep, I wouldn't have even bothered. We only got like 3-4 inches, and it was raining this morning. I was able to pick the snow off my car in chunks to prevent scratches. And my 8 commute on a state road was basically water this morning. No salt or anything that I could see/hear.

Jayde 12-27-2012 10:10 AM

Also, I'm jealous of you guys that live in the south. I hate snow. Someday I'll move south. Someday.

Rayme 12-27-2012 10:11 AM

driver error!

Those are snow tires right?

MontrealFRS 12-27-2012 10:13 AM

snow tires on.
7-13inchs of snow today

Nevermore 12-27-2012 10:19 AM

I haven't bought snow tires for my car yet and we got our first good bit of snow here yesterday. Getting to work was easy because it was just raining when I left my house. Then it snowed all day. Getting home was easy too though because all the roads were plowed and clear for the most part. Barely managed to get in my driveway because my brother didn't shovel it <_<. The hardest part about both trips was the driveway.

whaap 12-27-2012 10:34 AM

Yep, that's why we left the suburbs of Detroit back in 1976. At one time we had a Corvette and a VW bug sharing our two car garage and on heavy snow days I'd have to start up my wife's bug and make several passes up and down the driveway to cut a path so I could get my Vette out of the garage. We don't do that any more!!

LMAO that snow is practically touching the bottom of the car. I got stuck trying to get my car in the driveway with about 2 inches of snow on the ground 'cause of the incline.

Rayme 12-27-2012 10:36 AM

Ahaha! Montreal! I'm in NB..we're about to get hit with the same crap in the following 24 hours lol..

It's never good when the snow is the same height as the floor pans :D

FR-S Matt 12-27-2012 10:37 AM

It snowed in DF/W for Christmas.... needless to say it was worse on Facebook than Dec. 21st with the posts about snow and the idiots driving in it.

Still didn't see a single snowflake in Austin.

OrbitalEllipses 12-27-2012 10:42 AM

Snow tires won't save you from accumulated snowfall that can get you high of center. Hell, that'll stop any car. Including my WRX a few winters ago...on my driveway.

Sportsguy83 12-27-2012 10:45 AM

I pray every winter night that I never need to move to a snowy place!

powerj2 12-27-2012 10:51 AM

That looks like fun :P

chutrain 12-27-2012 11:11 AM

Not going to lie, but I do kinda miss the surefooted feel of my LGT with snow tires. I may just put that car back on the road this winter before I sell it.

Superhatch 12-27-2012 11:30 AM

I know that sometimes snow sucks, but driving around after a snow when everywhere you go looks like this is pretty awesome:

Seriously, you don't think you would mind the torrid summers? the omnipresent stale air-conditioned air? the enervating humidity? There is a high price to pay for living without snow.

those look like the stock tires.. if that is the case - that is your problem.

I am in ottawa - I woke up with 15cm on the ground, and thanks to my toyo winter tires - I made it into work just fine :burnrubber:

MontrealFRS 12-27-2012 11:58 AM

i got brand new nokian winter tires...

People don't sit outside in 100 degree heat, we have air conditioners too. Never having to shovel snow EVER and worry about salt corroding the bottom of your car. You can leave on summer tires all year long. I don't see what is so bad about living in the south. Snow takes work. Heat you just go someplace cool. Easy solution.

They are snow tires, look at the multiple sipes on each tread block.

LOL. Heat by itself is not a big problem, especially when you eliminate insects and humidity. We do the same thing here in the summer that people do in the rest of the country: live in a/c, drive in a/c, dine in a/c, shop in a/c etc. Plus our cars don't rust away before our eyes. ;)

Demandred7 12-27-2012 12:23 PM

Lol. At first, I thought how is it possible that an FR-S doesn't have winter tires in Quebec, but, then realized that traction isn't the issue, it's the fact that your car only has 4.9" of ground clearance and you got more snow than your ground clearance.

wrxgoose 12-27-2012 12:27 PM

high of 50* for today
high of 30* for tonight

i'm never gonna get snow again. :(

tomorrow: high 50* again, and 37* for night. but supposed to rain.

i hate charlotte's weather

Ingen 12-27-2012 03:20 PM

I got my snow tires and I was NOT impressed. I didnt think they were much better than the damned all seasons, just more expensive and ugly.

I was doing like 10mph through a roundabout, and under steered, then caught with the front only to have the back kick out!! Stupid tires.

I can't help thinking that maybe the tire pressure is too high, but... Hell, I don't know.

IloveBaldEagles 12-27-2012 08:47 PM

Snow tires on the twins is almost equivalent to training wheels on a bicycle when it's snowing in that amount.

Batman 12-27-2012 08:55 PM

Yes, this snowy weather definitely makes me miss my all wheel drive days..

mact 12-27-2012 08:58 PM

I got stuck today in front of my house in less than an inch of snow with the factory tires. lol You're gonna need a tow, or some good shoveling to get out of that ! That snow looks pretty deep.. I'm not sure even AWD would help in this case.

Drove my car to work today, then took my 2012 zx6r out for a nice ride since I had to pick some things up.

I love living in Phoenix. Don't ever plan on going back to the east coast lol. Can't beat the weather out here.

luxmn 12-27-2012 09:13 PM

meanwhile in texas, temperature dropped to 10F and i'm working from home til New Year lol...

When I lived in Alaska .... I used to put some weight in the trunk in addition to the snow tires.

Want.FR-S 12-27-2012 10:56 PM

With such a low clearance car like FR-S, you can never venture to places with some snow, and definitely not in this deep of snow.

Got stuck last week like this. Had to shovel out the snow around and underneath the car to open a head way to the road with less snow. Or you can try the quick-bite thingy to put under the wheel to see if you can get it moving.

Not to mention we dont have to wear a ridiculous amount of clothes in layers or overpriced slaughtered animals to keep warm  (May have gone a bit over the top lol)

Nevermore 12-27-2012 11:00 PM

I love warm weather as much as the next guy and would love to live somewhere that was warm year-round, but someone told me something that did make a lot of sense regarding the different weather. You can always put on more clothes (if it's cold) but you can only take off so much (if it's hot). AC is nice, but what happens when it breaks? Would you rather have a broken AC in 100 degree weather, or a broken heater in 0 degree weather?

FR-S Matt 12-27-2012 11:08 PM

Broken AC in 100 degree weather. I'll go sit in my FR-S with it's icy cold A/C. :) Or cool off in a pool.

If you grew up in texas, its really not a big deal. i used to play soccer, ride my bike all day in 100+ degree weather, and dont even get me started about san antonio. Wheres the AC there? But it is something you have to adapt to. Hell when Im in my car I deliberately turn off the AC and roll down the windows JUST TO sweat. Love the hot weather. And most in texas that live here with out A/C are wellll misinformed. The locals know better.
