cold weather causing windows not to go back up

When I went outside this morning the car was covered with ice. So i tried opening the door, the window dropped down. However when I got inside the car and shut the door the window didn't go back up. Also passenger side window doesn't work at all and the auto scroll for driver doesn't work.

cliffs:
-cold weather
-driver window gets stuck on way down, have to roll it up to fix it
-no driver auto scroll
- passenger side window doesn't work either

Thanks to this post, I saved myself $120 at the dealership tonight. They wanted to charge me to diagnose this problem and claim it was caused by my 6.5" speaker baffles hitting the window actuator. In all reality, I it was caused by the cold weather and a recent snow storm. They took care of the invoice for me and sent me on my way.

I made them leave the baffles on, as it didn't sound right went the service writer called me the first time.

Right around 6 inches. The biggest issue now is that snow crews left the snow on the road for too long trying to wait for it to end and it's been compacted to the road and near impossible to remove.

How do you "roll it up"? Do you push it up by hand?

The window still worked when the car was turned on. So I just followed the instructions in the link and everything worked perfect

MSTiFK8R 12-23-2012 03:28 PM

@firestorm_frs This is common for all cars with frameless windows - just look on the 350z and 370z forums.

WolfsFang 12-30-2012 04:49 PM

The first link to fix the problem are they talking about the driver window, or both buttons told hold?

n8dog11914 12-30-2012 04:55 PM

I had this same problem this morning. The window did not auto-up and only would go down. The reset procedure WORKED and the window goes and up down now correctly with the auto up feature.

NOTE: I had a 350Z before that had the same frame-less window that goes and up and down. This is a known large issue on the 350Z as well. I had to replace the window motor once to remedy the issue.

JDMenrique 12-30-2012 05:08 PM

exact same thing happened to me this morning, sigh...

It's not a "issue". It is a safety feature. Toyota designed the window to default to down-only configuration if it detected something blocking the path. The reason is that if someone's extremity is caught in the window, they don't want anyone to mistakenly close the window further.

There's some logic. Now other automakers with auto functions + jam protection, does it reset as well after sensing a jam? Thus needing initialization? I believe you have something here...:happy0180:

FRiSson 01-03-2013 11:53 AM

No, you have to reset it yourself. Maybe it resets after you turn the ignition off and on again?
