Well after waking up at 3 this morning and getting off work late i had about 4 hours to work on the kit. Almost done just have to finish some wiring and tying the boost lines in and some other lose ends. Have about a couple more hours tomorrow then should be done.

I got my kit from Vortech ordered it awhile ago. I already have Perrins tune just have to flash the car tomorrow.

Hope the world doesn't end when i am sleeping.

Have more pics of the install will post more tomorrow with a video.

Looks great!!! Only thing I dislike is the cool side piping sits on the hot radiator hose how. :(

Bar far cleanest of all FI setups thus far.

More pics and driving impression. World has NOT ended yet. lol.

This a simple complaiment to a person building a car with new product. If you feel there is something better or you are a fanboy please go $#%* yourself and post your rub off material in the appriopate post not here.

I AM NOT STARTING A DISCUSSION ON WHOSE **** IS BIGGER, WHAT FI SYSTEM IS BETTER, OR THAT THIS IS THE BEST THING SINCE THE BLOW JOB. JUST A SIMPLE COMPLIMENT TO A FELLOW BUILDER AND FOLLOWING THE BUILD FOR UPDATES. IF YOU KNOW BETTER ABOUT EVERYTHING PLEASE MAKE YOUR SECOND COMING AND DAMN ALL US IGNORANT FOKE THAT JUST DO THIS FOR ALIVING AND DO NOT KNOW SHIT. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU HAVE READ ALL FORUMS/INTERNET AND PROVED EVERYONE ELSE WRONG AND ARE ALWAYS RIGHT.

LET THIS BUILDER POST WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND LEAVE YOUR BS ABOUT ROOTS/TS VS THE WORLD FOR A DEBATE ELSE WHERE NOT HERE!!!

KEEP UP THE BUILD SKATERY1989 AND POST MORE ON IT DESPITE THE IGNORANCE OF PEOPLE NOT JUST ENJOYING A BUILD.

I wouldn't say the cleanest, but still rather nice looking. I agree with disliking the tight fit around the radiator hose. They spent so much time on that pipe, why not make it fit better? :iono: Also the mouth of the intake chamber doesn't seem to fit up against the snorkel very snug...

There still a bracket to go on there to push it forward. The pipe are a very tight fight I really don't see any other way they could have done it.

Jeff86 12-21-2012 10:44 AM

Great job man! Definitely in for your overall impressions of the kit itself and the performance! Not excited about that radiator hose contact either. If I were to buy this kit I would work on that area by replacing the radiator hose with one that hard turned downward. Had to do that on my DC5. Cant' wait to see more and videos!!!

Redline360 12-21-2012 10:47 AM

Looking good. Interested to see numbers.

AVO kit looks nice but waits until you see how it actually performs and lasts. I have owned an AVO turbo would not put one on another car. You will see in the long run. Every tuner around (including when Cobb was in SLC) they told me not to buy it. I did and paid much more than other options (ATP, blouch, etc) and made less power with more boost and it was laggy compared to similar sized turbos.

It is easy to reuse the factory airbox and say it is a clean setup. Vortech made a useable air box that look great. Stock airbox is great for a stock engine!!!

I am here to see and read about a new product not get in whose D*&% is bigger pissing match. If you don’t like this kit; DO NOT post here. Go be a fan boy elsewhere.

1) Are you really using the heat soak issue? I mean... it's 5-7 psi. Heavy? LOL. The extra 20 lbs will surely  be noticeable. More power is debatable. If you're the type that only looks at peak power numbers, maybe. If you consider the area of power under the entire torque curve, it will lead you to a different story.

2) Sounds like you've had a bad experience with AVO. You'd be the first one I've seen. Hate to say it, but they've been the most transparent vender/manufacturer through this development process (not that that says much). Sounds like you picked the wrong sized turbo kit for your build from them. I can't imagine building 5 psi of boost is going lag very much LOL.

3). Wingnuts holding down a flap to cover the filter looks better than the stock airbox? Plus it also doesn't appear to fit the snorkel very snug... I guess it's all a matter of opinion.

I'm all for supporting this kit because you like it. That's great. But don't down other kits unless you're gonna bring applicable, factual reasons. People crying over heatsoak on 5-7 psi from a roots blower is really stretching the argument. LOL

DR1FT 12-21-2012 12:16 PM

Does the kit comes with an ecu flash? How much whp are u expecting?

You are confusing roots with twin screw technology. You might want to do some reading on the subject and compare it to centrifugal superchargers, if nothing else than to broaden your knowledge on the subject. Two resourcs, albeit the company in the first link are interested in promoting their product: http://www.whipplesuperchargers.com/....asp?PageID=77
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/supercharger3.htm

Both the Innovate twin screw and the Vortech make for clean setups, and competition is good for all of us.

All of this is covered in Perrin's Vortech build thread. A base Ecutek tune is included, and whp should be around the 230-250 whp range around 5.5-6.5 psi.

threadjack:
WEEKS?! What are they doing, building you a whole new car? It's just a supercharger, its not rocket science.
/threadjack

OP:
I think it looks great. Not what I'm looking for in terms of performance, but a great looking piece of kit. How do you like it?

Celica00 12-21-2012 06:17 PM

Supercharge or turbo, both will make this car rock. honestly i'm split completely down the middle about AVO or Perrin. this was posted a while back in perrins thread but just to remind everyone:
http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/.../lionzebra.jpg
cant we all get along?

back on topic: super stoked to hear your experience w/ your new kit! this is an exciting time for our cars as people are actually starting to get their hands on FI

Can't wait to start seeing third party dynos!

skatery1989 12-21-2012 11:11 PM

So got everything put back on and all I can say is WOW!!! This is what this car is missing the high end TQ you can really feel. When running from 4000-6000 rpm it pulls like crazy. Didn’t really drive it to hard waiting for Jeff with Perin to log at the log. Once I get a couple of the parts that I am missing ill be taking it to the dyno. I think with a E-85 tune it will be all this car needs. Didn’t get a chance for a viedo will get to that fomorrow. Have to rewire the mass air flow sensor. Have alot of pictures of install need to figure out a good way to upload them some where any suggestions.

Noob4Life 12-21-2012 11:18 PM

Flickr or photobucket would be your best options. Cant wait for a video! If you dont mind me asking will rewiring the maf be a requirement for this kit?

i was going to look in to photobucket. Ya the MAF sensor moves down onto the intercooler piping. Need about a foot and a half of wire vortech sent me wire from the first kit they designed but they moved it far there down so shorted me. Its fairly east to wire back up.

Haha I bet it is, ill be coming from a european, so I'm always very skeptical when it comes to wiring.

Photobucket would be better than flickr for regular pics because theres not as low of a cap. I have a flickr for photographs that I want to show off in the highest quality possible.

O ya hate European cars. Will post more tomorrow about the install and driving experience. But for now I can say its worth the money if you have it.
