Base price increase?
 

I was just browsing the Scion website and noticed that the base price for the car seems to have increased. They initially bumped destination from 755 to 805 (current) and now the base price has increased a couple hundred dollars. Interesting. Wonder whats causing the increase.

Every car's MSRP goes up a little bit every year, with very few exceptions.

Likely varying exchange and shipping rates? I would assume that they set the price based on the current rates for x amount of time and then recalculate after that period of time to assess whether and adjustment is necessary.

XB increased the most in the Toyota line.
FR-S has the second largest increase.

If you already have one, it only increases the value of your car. I'm not complaining.

Yeah agreed, I do already have one. Its not a significant increase but an increase none the less. Generally between years I can understand but yeah, this is the same model year.

I was thinking quality control issues causing the increase.

Yen is weak.

It won't make a difference as the world ends on Friday.

That's weird, I read that after the 2012's are finished the xB is discontinued.

Lets hope that happens.

I hope the prices continue to increase higher and higher. Anyone remember when an Integra Type R was less than 20k?

I think it's the other way around, dollar is weak.
If it were the yen, it'd be cheaper for us! Gone are the days a dollar would buy over 350 yen, I remember that!

I guess we can consider it an early adopter perk?

I was worried that the price on the FR-S would rise in the second year. Given that Toyota/Subaru seem to have underestimated the demand for this car, the price increase was somewhat foreseeable.

How good is your memory? ;)

you're right. if the yen was weak, then the US would have more buying power and vice versa.

I paid fully loaded 98 prelude for $25k and same price for that year intergra. Today the frs is also at $25k ! amazing huh :)

It's also impressive that $25k back in 1998 is the equivalent of $35k today. The price/performance value of cars today is off-the-charts (not just the 86, but also cars like the $22k 300hp Mustang V6, etc.)

I made a similar comment to my wife when I bought the FR-S. Back in '02, she bought a new Civic SiR (Si hatch in the US). The MSRP was $25,550 CDN, and 10 years later, The FR-S was only $440 more than that.

DarkSunrise is right to mention the V6 Mustang...it is a real bargain. Since I bought mine 5 years ago, the price has dropped by $2Gs, and the horsepower has gone up by 90+.

Toyota and Scion will be charging slightly more for certain models in 2013. And we mean slightly—the greatest change is a $500 bump up on the Scion xB and Toyota Sequoia SUV.

The Camry sedan, Prius C hybrid subcompact and Scion xB utility vehicle all offer new features for 2013, causing the price increase.

The Camry sedan will increase by $150 to a base price of $23,030, and the hybrid variant will increase by $165 for a $26,935 base price. With the increase comes Display Audio with a LCD touchscreen as standard equipment. The Camry SE will also feature a blind-spot-monitoring system that includes rear cross-traffic alert. The turn signal will also change to include a lane-changing setting that signals three times and shuts off automatically. The interior will see an upgrade with improved color matching and ivory seat inserts. Leather-equipped models will have updated stitching accents on the door panels, and all Camry models will receive updated door trim.

The 2013 Camry arrives in dealerships in early January.
The Prius C hybrid compact car also sees a price increase of $130. The base Prius C will now cost $19,210 when it arrives in dealerships January. Upgrades include a black SofTex dash panel on the Prius C Two and Three models, and standard SofTex-trimmed steering wheel on the top-of-the-line Prius C Four.

Additional features on the 2013 Scion xB include a new front bumper, glossy black lower grille, integrated LED accent lighting and a rear bumper with a black diffuser for a sportier look. Also, Absolutely red and Nautical blue metallic are added to the paint lineup to replace Stingray metallic and Elusive blue metallic. On the inside, the xB will feature light-bronze metallic accents on panels, chrome accents on the air-condition register and new seat fabric. Technology upgrades include an optional premium audio system. As a result, the 2013 Scion xB price is $18,505 , a $500 increase.

- Venza: $150 increase to $28,695
- Sienna: $150 increase to $27,430
- Highlander: $150 increase to $29,865
- Tacoma: $100 increase to $18,470
- Sequoia: $500 increase to $43,450
- Tundra: $100 increase to $26,450
- FJ Cruiser: $150 increase to $27,875
- Land Cruiser: increase of $300 to $79,400
- Scion iQ: $110 increase to $16,250
- Scion FR-S: $300 increase to $25,255

They will probably be three months late with the announcement per their usual practices....

The 2014 models will probably be at least $1000 more than the current price of the 2013 model. But it will probably have more standard equipment...to justify the price increase...

Wait so those on the wait list taking delivery after Jan 1st will pay $300 more? Geez!

They'll probably be inching it up every chance they get. I think there was a lot of marketing input in keeping that msrp below $25,000. Now that the car is launched and the articles are published, they don't need to worry as much about someone being able to use 'less than $25k' in their headline.
