86/BRZ Wins Wheels COTY 2012

Hi All,

Logged into facebook and saw that Wheels Magazine had updated their status and...the 86/BRZ has won Wheels COTY 2012!

Magazine comes out tomorrow I think, will be a good read so make sure you get it to add to your collections!

Cheers

G

Paying for a 32 page lift out had no bearing on the result, I'm sure...

Just a reminder that the Honda CR-Z got Wheels COTY 2011.

G RUSH 12-15-2012 11:50 PM

Ah monty.

Still around, and still saying things that you should just keep to yourself.

Its a forum. I can voice my opinion on such an award. Wheels has the credibility of an Egyptian presidential candidate. Every year the prize has gone to the biggest advertising account. Don't get shitty, its a fact.

BRAWL 12-15-2012 11:54 PM

Think 2011 was more indicative of the remainder of the field, but not a vintage year for sure ;)

The twins were always destined to win this and when I saw the final 3 (VW Up! and Holden Volt), they were a shoe in! :)

You probably enjoy wearing tin foil hats too.

I know it's just a 'magazine'. But it will have a nice writeup on the car we all love, especially since it's won the 1st prize.

Feel free to start a "Wheels mag is all BS" thread.

oh the irony
so if someone else who owns a brz/86 made the same comment that would be ok? i agree with his sentiment.

You are saying we will love the car more because it has won a prize? i don't follow the logic. i would have thought that you have bought a product because it suits you, not because it has won a popularity contest.

m0nty 12-16-2012 12:00 AM

I love these forums. Why are you so hostile over my opinion on Wheels magazine?

Doesn't matter if you own the car or not. This thread was supposed to be a lil celebration of another win, and has been turned into a thread that is anti Wheels.

Like i said, feel free to start a new thread against Wheels.

I ordered before I drove the car or knew what it cost and before it won wheels and before the 32 page spread. It suits me fine. You just can't read properly.

Again, this post is a heads up for people who wish to buy wheels to read a bit more about the car they probs already know enough about. Now relax.

i.e. there will be a big writeup on the car, since it's won 1st place. Not, we will love the car more lol

Perhaps something to that effect in the thread title would have been a good idea then? This IS a "discussion" forum, after all. Seems the whole thread so far falls into the discussion category.

Agreed. It was tongue in cheek of course.

kster 12-16-2012 12:35 AM

Agree the clio rs200 should have won it even though i have not driven it and own a white 86gts the clio is better in all aspects isn't that right m.

m0nty 12-16-2012 12:47 AM

I'm sorry. What does a Clio RS200 have to do with this topic?

kster 12-16-2012 01:12 AM

Everything and nothing mate basically stating the obvious that wheels has been bought out by the manufacturer with the most, being a prius handling shitbox.

m0nty 12-16-2012 01:18 AM

Um, I don't follow you.

The Wheels COTY award had always been a bit of a running joke. I'll post the list off winners from over the years. Next year has already been decided with a new Commodore launching in 2013.

Nardi330 12-16-2012 01:29 AM

i am happy with the win but who ever won any prize someone will pull the biggest ad client thing. if the Volt won, i'm sure the annual calendar helps.......

the twin has won so many awards around the world already i'd thought they will be immured but i'm wrong again.

kster 12-16-2012 01:40 AM

I'm sorry my reverse pschyology approach was not obvious to those retarded bogans from NSW and QLD but i will put it in a language you can understand the game is the game yo bitches be bitches.

Back on topic Toyota deserve all praises and awards it is an amazing handling and well balanced car.

Granted their are some good and subpar/poor choices on that list it doesn't change the fact the car is deserving of awards coming it's way. Beyond that i would challenge you to find numbers of other car mags that haven't made poor choices that is life.

But for you to degrade this truly magnificient car is poor form on your part and to suggest post hast that another car deserved it more to be childish ignorance.

Please note i do not care about whether this car receives awards or not and if you want to dis this car post a new thread with your own opinion instead of being a cockcroach with a grudge.

a.beck 12-16-2012 04:07 AM

Good lord, the guy didn't dis or "degrade this truly magnificient car" [sic] anywhere in this thread. State your case, sure, but come on, be fair about it.

czar07 12-16-2012 04:07 AM

why are you guys getting so butthurt over someones OPINION?

Bitter?

Did a bit of google for you

http://www.ozrenaultsport.com/

Bye :)

kster 12-16-2012 04:24 AM

Yes his intention was that Wheels is corrupt and that the 86 was the obvious/automatic choice which this is to be viewed as a direct/indirect dis/degradation of the car in question.

As per above link i suggest that he should procrastinate their where he will be a god.

Also adding to that you have disrepected the drift king Keiichi Tsuchiya shame on you mate.

m0nty 12-16-2012 04:33 AM

Thanks to the guys that actually GET IT.

The Hot Tuner Challenge was a farce this year too. Tuners that shall remain nameless were allowed to repair their car, even despite the fact that rules stipulated no one could do so. The workshop in question is a major contributor to Motor magazine.

Not once did I take a shot at the 86. It's probably one of four or five cars on that list that I would own. It's not the greatest car ever made and people need to come to terms with that and stop attacking anyone that doesn't have the same opinion.

kster 12-16-2012 04:46 AM

You have come into this thread obviously looking for a fight by trolling your worthless opinion which i have noted as a direct attack on various topics. Take it or get out.

m0nty 12-16-2012 05:14 AM

Oh please. Now you're the regulator of opinion value? Again, the real issue here is my opinion differs from the majority of fanboys so a witch hunt ensues.

EDIT - you know what? The 86 was the best car built this year. I never said it wasn't. I just argued that the Wheels COTY has been plagued with corrupt decision making for years.

BRAWL 12-16-2012 05:22 AM

Only thing that really rubs me up the wrong way with MOTOR/Wheels is how they give a gobbie to any Porsche or VW. I can usually guarantee that in a tuner challenge will be won by some porsche (snooze) and a new Golf or Polo will cause the writers to get a big stiffy/wet one over it even if it was garbage :(

That said, a worthy winner the twins are :)

kster 12-16-2012 05:25 AM

I refute the fact of fan boyism i would sell my 86 at a whim if the competition produced a better handling/performance RWD sports car at a similar price range.

Ok but there was definite insinuations on your part and i have interpreted it differently to what you have suggested above.

Good grief.. Why the fuck are you all attacking Monty? Did he burst your bubble at one point or another
He never once said in this thread that the 86 didn't deserve a award, but what he said is that wheels is a running joke...
What should be praise for this car is that Jeremy clarkson said it is one of the best cars he has ever driven. That is actual worth while praise, even if topgear is a tounge in cheek approach at some level to motoring journalism. That man has driven nearly every car made after the 50's (afaik) and that is actual praise

a.beck 12-16-2012 07:04 AM

I was actually considering aftermarket wheels and tyres until I read what he had to say about it. Love or hate the guy, he knows cars.

kster 12-16-2012 07:16 AM

Why listen to him just do what you want to the car it's your car/style.

Nobody has attacked anybody in this thread but he has definitely inferred the car was not deserving of the award and was also sarcastic and disrespectful to others.

czar07 12-16-2012 07:26 AM

no he didnt. its not the greatestests car of all time. fucking get over it.

kster 12-16-2012 07:30 AM

Your grammar has failed you son.

I have never mentioned or referred to it as being "the greatest car of all time."

Not sure I get the reference, but referring to one of your previous posts I would give even money of the new commodore winning 2013 COTY
