what brand gas do you use?

I usually use qt or race track bc they're the cheapest but I heard shell n chevron are the best. So what brand do you use n why?

BRZfan 12-14-2012 11:29 AM

Whatever the GASBUDDY ap shows me that has the best price for premium.

dun3 12-14-2012 11:32 AM

I've read too many horror stories regarding gas and chirping. Will only have Shell v-power running through mine, as I did all my previous cars before that

Shell V-power eliminates chirping?

Negative. That's all I run and it's cricketopia.

gmookher 12-14-2012 12:12 PM

Chevron with techron

Not saying it does, but I've read people switching to Shell V power, and it quieted it down.

whaap 12-14-2012 12:20 PM

Here at home I use COSTCO. When I'm on the road it's what ever gas station I come to when I need gas. My FR-S was built in August so maybe the chirp was corrected before my car was made as I've not had a problem.

Zadkiel 12-14-2012 12:28 PM

Either Shell or Sunoco 93.

Sac-BRZ 12-14-2012 12:48 PM

Always use Chevron or Shell.. Seem to get better mpg out of Shell though.

AE86guy 12-14-2012 12:52 PM

MOBIL. Everything else causes loud chirping for my car. The sound is still faint at times but much less noticeable.

calis5nest 12-14-2012 12:55 PM

shell v power and I do believe it helps minimize the chirping. Car sounds like a field of crickets when I use something else

CrazyWookiee 12-14-2012 01:06 PM

Shell V-Power or Petro-Can Supreme 94 (Same as Sunoco 94). I have been recording every single fill up and monitoring the chirping very closely.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...nN5Uk5ibXpvZkE

Using ethanol free gas (Shell V-Power 91) definitely reduces the amount of chirping I hear. It normally starts going down on the second tank. If you switch over from something containing ethanol, it doesn't quiet down immediately.

GoSharks 12-14-2012 01:47 PM

I have been using Shell V Power that I discovered by accident reduced the chirping. I normally prefer Chevron but in this case Shell.

Tt3Sheppard 12-14-2012 02:28 PM

I use Mobil. Not that it really matters since 10% ethanol is going to screw up our engines because of Direct Injection.

chenshuo 12-14-2012 02:41 PM

Shell in Canada is only 91 Octane. Anyone have problems using 91 where the recommended is 93?

Snoopyalien24 12-14-2012 02:58 PM

Sunoco near me had e85 and 93

I will is those

RL_BRZ 12-14-2012 03:15 PM

I use Sunoco 93 in my BRZ

I should also add that I use 91.

91 octane is the rule in Cali

from what i have read about gas in the US is that we have a different rating system as well. so (minus the additives depending on your area) the lower octaine numbers here are = to a higher number elsewhere. my KTM dirtbikes all say 93 in the manuals but i have never had any issue with california's 91 in them.

bjun 12-14-2012 04:14 PM

Seems like a lot of you use shell and chevron. Thanks everyone. Better to spend extra 10-20 cents per gallon on better gas than to have a broken new car D:

BoxeRZ 12-14-2012 04:20 PM

Seeing a lot of people opting for Shell, honestly I'm not sure the last time I saw a Shell station in PA. I use Sunoco Super93, been good to me so far, only filled up elsewhere once. I have crickets but they must be babies because they're pretty quiet, maybe its the Sunoco helping to shut them up? Full disclosure... I recently was given permanent gas cards from my employer, I got Sunoco and Mobil. So I never look at the mpg gauge anymore.

It has reduced chirping considerably although it didnt exactly eliminate it

chanomatik 12-14-2012 06:44 PM

I use Shell first because all of the modded forced-induction guys up here in Alaska have always seen performance improvements with V-Power. Also Chevron's Techron sees stabilization in the motor's performance.

We only have 90 octane up here as our highest, so it might be a wash between either one, but Shell offers $0.10 off per gallon if you pay cash, so there's more incentive to go there.

LeeMaster 12-14-2012 06:45 PM

I use BP 93 octane and my car has loud crickets. I might switch to Shell and try to see if it makes any difference in terms of power and cricketing.

DelayedBRZ 12-14-2012 08:27 PM

BP for me

I have run BP premium in every vehicle I've had since returning to CONUS (02 WRX, 07 SpecB, Triumph Sprint, Can-Am Spyder RT-S) and have had zero issues. I filled up at a Sinclair and had horrible knock in the Rex, and will never fill up there again. Seems every where else around western Iowa has E10 for their premium.

WRXGuy1 12-14-2012 08:48 PM

Shell is always 5-10 cents more per gallon here so I rarely use them. Typically I go to Gulf or Irving.

WiKKiD 12-14-2012 08:49 PM

BP ultra 93

roddy 12-14-2012 09:25 PM

Shell V-Power 91 (contains no ethanol in my area), or Sunoco/Petro Canada Ultra 94 (10% ethanol).

lavisxice 12-14-2012 11:50 PM

chevron 94 no ethanol

serialk11r 12-14-2012 11:53 PM

I only buy Chevron, I'm not even sure why, it just makes me feel good. They tend to be expensive but the only brands that are consistently cheaper are usually something like Arco, which I don't trust. At least it's not as expensive as Shell, and Techron is supposedly a really good fuel system cleaner. (I have an MR2 with a total shitbox engine so I fill with 87 not 91 by the way)

a.beck 12-15-2012 12:30 AM

Whatever's cheap. Tried the fancy stuff and found it made no observable difference.

Smokinbuffalo 12-15-2012 01:33 AM

Ethanol free, 92 octane, 76 brand. Had the crickets bad until I switched to ethanol free.

immortal_suby 12-15-2012 08:14 AM

Ethanol free 93 octane. Lucky to have a local station 1 mile from the house. No crickets yet.

shrike92 12-15-2012 06:23 PM

Yeah, this is why I always just use 91. The difference in price amounts to maybe a hundred dollars a year so you're not even saving that much by penny pinching.

Is there ANY 93 - 94 here in Ontario that doesn't have 10% ethanol? Seems unlikely considering that ethanol boosts octane rating.

roddy 12-15-2012 09:38 PM

Not that I am aware of. I've heard that Ultramar is another option for an ethanol-free 91, but I haven't checked for a sticker on the pump to confirm this.

comic0guy 12-16-2012 08:24 AM

I use shell in my cars, but it is also convenient. You could go off the http://www.toptiergas.com

bestwheelbase 12-16-2012 06:44 PM

I use pure-gas.org to find ethanol-free fuel. Fortunately there are a couple stations in my area that have it.
