CAR SPOTLIGHT >> MODIFIED TOYOTA 86 http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2805.jpg Sitting in the pits at the 86 test drive on Sunday was this lightly tuned version of the car for the press to check out. Sitting on 18-inch BBS wheels it was also wearing a subtle but effective aero package. Up front there are lower bumper add ons at each corner with an air guide around the center opening and a very thin lip spoiler. The car was a left hand drive model, probably European market as it was fitted with the obligatory headlight washers. http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2811.jpg The big STI-like wing certainly gives a whole new look to the 86! The stock rear bumper was enhanced with a pair of corner garnishes while the profile of the car lowered thanks to more aggressive side skirts. http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2812.jpg Curiously the suspension looked stock, at least the height. The 18-inch BBS wheels were wrapped in... http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2807.jpg ...brand new Bridgestone RE86 (86...do you get it?) tires. The car I drove was on Michelins so not sure if these will be a performance option or not. We will just have to wait and see when more details are released. Despite the step up to 18-inch wheels the tire width was the same 215 mm as the stock 17s. http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/IMG_0367.jpg Under the hood the EJ remains in stock configuration... http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2834.jpg ...maybe gaining a little bit of aural presence thanks to the redesigned exhaust. http://assets.speedhunters.com/Image...e/AY0F2835.jpg The car was running some pretty nice bucket seats! http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagam...3/AY0F2837.jpg The interior was spiced up with carbon trim and a set of TRD gauges mounted where the audio/navigation would usually be fitted. This is a very small initial glimpse into the tuning side of the 86. I'm sure we will be seeing a few fettled versions of the car tomorrow at the Tokyo Motor Show! |
OH MY WORD.
My baby has been born  |
The big wing look so cool.
|
Lower it 1.5" and add 10mm wheel spacers and it'll be good to go.
The big wing really balances the vehicle aesthetic. |
Wheels look like 17s
Not an EJ motor... |
Noice!!!!
|
Now make the rear seats removable, and remove the right passenger seat. Then it will be more like it. And add an TRD Police Radar Scanner. :)
|
It is a FA20 motor not EJ speed hunters.
|
Nice, I hope they will have this color for us and canada.
|
can anyone make out what the guages ... well... gauge?
|
Aren't these old pics? Can't remember anymore and I can't make out the gauges.

Ah. Cool.
And since those bbs wheels are 18s I no longer want them. Back to the original plans. At least the standard high spec are 17s still :) |
Different from the Gazoo race car

When I get this car I'm going to be so damn broke...get that whole aero package...minus the spoiler
|
So those gauges keep grabbing my attention. Since the modified aspect of this car is always on my mind, has anyone else noticed something about the AC and heat controls?
It looks like they're knobs set in circular backlit glass to display the values. Those circles look very close to the size of the gauges. Im thinking maybe on the tuned versions or the stripped down one, the one offered with no AC, that those 3 spots provide an excellent place for additional meters. Keep the A-Pillars clean. This is looking good. |
This makes me want it in blue now. Omg Toyota why won't you let me make up my mind!!!

ahhhh looks so beautiful
|
THIS IN WHITE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
isn't this the modelista version? i thought it was already mentioned somewhere on here in another thred, also the modelista versions dont make it out of japan and if they do thy are grey imports only, i've got an imported jzx110 modelista version, so im guessing it'll be the same: a JDM only model
|
This looks like Modelista version with TRD wing and Gazoo seats and optional Toyota gauges, not TRD gauges. Also looks like EU spec, steering wheel is on left side.
|
and if i remember correctly wasnt there a rumor going around about a limited run of 500 i think it was on one of the mag pics someone took, and it looks awfuly similar to this one

This car has three normal boost gauges that are put instead of the radio/navi which are on the option list. The TRD version has four boost gauges. It looks like in the pic below.

LOL. When there comes the word "gauge" I automatically stick "boost" to it.
|
Well... from the training manual that modellista looks differently.... hopefully this is the TRD version that will make it overseas. ( That car is euro spec already anyway)
