Who's planning on this one?

aced86 12-26-2012 04:10 PM

Who's going ? And what day Saturday or Sunday

Hanakuso 12-26-2012 05:36 PM

I'm really thinking of going to both days or just waiting till the next event in mid January.

jflogerzi 12-26-2012 08:13 PM

I am looking at Saturday. If I can get a few ppl confirmed from the forums to go that day, I am down. I missed the last one so I really want to go. This would be my first ever track event in any car ever :)

KGFRS86 12-26-2012 08:19 PM

Having never tracked any car, my only concern is tires. I don't have the money to buy a full set of new tires this weekend, but I can handle the $90 no problem.

Will one track day completely shred my tires? (I know this is a "variable" question, so of course I mean on average do you go through an entire set of tires on one track day)

From what I read, no you should not. I will let others chime in.

No, you should be worry free. Mine were totally fine. This is assuming you have new or somewhat new OEM tires.

Most likely beginners do 2 out of 4 sessions as a learning experience, so you're not pushing your car farther then daily driving. So you will only have a half day of real tracking, even then the point is to learn how to be safe and fun, going fast isn't the priority.

The two things you should do it change your brake fluid and possibly pads. I did my first event at SOW with stock pads and they were totally fine. I might sign up as a beginner just to relearn everything.

robispec 12-27-2012 03:28 AM

Ill be there both days..come ask for a ride! We should have some fun.

Louie 12-27-2012 05:40 AM

For you drivers that still want to go ...
Discount code extended till Dec 29th,see you guys at the track

helloimgil 12-27-2012 12:28 PM

May or may not sign up for Sunday... all depends on how good my moving day goes on Saturday.

I'd be very impressed if you managed to finish off a set of tires in 1 track day.

Chances are you MIGHT go through 10% of the tire, if that, considering it's your first track day.

I'll be bringing some extra brake pads in the event that you manage to fade your stock brake pads.

I'll be there Saturday, with an old friend that you'll recognize :)

KGFRS86 12-27-2012 07:19 PM

Does anybody have an extra helmet I could use/borrow for the day (Saturday)? I kinda have a big head as well. :P Or will they have some for rental?

If I can be guaranteed a helmet i'll just sign up now for Saturday :P

They have $10 rentals. I'm like 50% going right now but if I don't you can use mine. You could always ask around to borrow someone on here that is running in a different experience group.

Hanakuso 12-27-2012 07:35 PM

Just registered for Saturday in the beginners group. This will be my 3rd event but i'm still a newb

Anyone ever stay at Red Roof Inn Palmdale/Lancaster? It's only $38 and pictures on expedia don't look too bad.

KGFRS86 12-27-2012 08:06 PM

Purchased! Registered for Saturday :-) See you guys there!

robispec 12-27-2012 08:39 PM

KGFRS86 12-27-2012 08:45 PM

I'm probably going to stay in Lancaster or Rosamond so I don't have to wake up early. I'm not really a morning person :)

My first trackday here, the first session was just driving Round the track. My second session I actually faded my brakes a bit... But that's because I wasn't on them hard enough.. Instead I was braking softly and on them a lot longer.. I ran 1:45's in my second session.. Rode with CSG mike or Dave..I'm horrible with names.. Anyways after I found out what to do I was much better. 1:36 ... I was harder on the brakes but used them way way less.. It was more like a quick jab then the way I was doing it.. I didn't have problems with my brakes the rest of the day... I know if I started going faster I'd need pads, but at my pace the stock set up was fine

My tires looked like I used them, but were no where closed to worn out.. I could just tell they went trough something other then street driving, but I don't notice any extra wear.. I know they lost some tread, and if I gauged them before and after I'm sure there would be a difference, but not to the naked eye can I tell any difference

If it was spring time I'd have camped over and brought my "circus tent"

At least they allow camping for the bike trackdays

Yeah I plan on doing that in the spring and summer but I just checked the forecast and it's going to be in the 20s
