If the nav ends up being a $2k option like on most cars, I don't care if it makes my lunch for me, I'd still pass on it. Better to pick up a separate Garmin for a few hundred dollars.

Exactly. I just hope it's not a package that includes that and things I want. I already have a good garmin that I can use in all my cars when I need it (rarely, locally I get by with my phone, I only use nav systems on road trips).

Sea1monkey2 11-28-2011 03:22 PM

based on the "build your own" system from the toyota website for the camry, the 6.1inch touchscreen is included in the first upgraded trim package

which is an addition of, incuding the other additions such as chrome grill, keyless entry, and upgraded steering wheel $1000. that doesn't sound bad to me

Dark 11-28-2011 03:25 PM

I want TRD guage. I don't need a nav. If I want a Nav, I would get a 7-10" tablet, which is 1/4 the price of OEM and has more functionality.

ZetaVI 11-28-2011 03:33 PM

My phone has free nav and all I would need is to buy car mount. The better option for me. You could even get a tablet for cheaper.

If the nav is going to be grouped in with HID, keyless entry, etc. for around a grand then I'd be much more receptive.

True for Toyota but this is a Scion so they will not be any trim packages. It'll more than likely be offered in one of their stereo options.

:word: I'd even go with an aftermarket h/u.

ZetaVI 11-28-2011 03:53 PM

Don't waste money of it is a option. So many alternatives.
1. Cell w/ car mount.
2. Tablet.
3. Aftermarket Head Unit.
4. Use a Map

madfast 11-28-2011 04:02 PM

i dont really care about the nav system. i just like the screen  imagine if it has GT-R style digital gauges? who needs the TRD gauges! if only...

Maybe Pro EFI will make a full system for this car like they do for other ars? It's similar to the GTR system, just not as refined.

Spaceywilly 11-28-2011 05:28 PM

I'll save weight and money and just use my phone.

Now you are talking but that is too much tech for this car. This car all about no tech. The GTR is a rolling computer...a bad assed one but one nonetheless.

I am worried I might be the only one who is thinking of getting the navi. The look of that touch screen is good and I plan on keeping this car for at least ten years.

Sure I could get an aftermarket h/u, but I am not really looking to start tearing the interior of this car open until the warranty is over; plus then integrating the Bluetooth mics and all I'd just rather have something from the factory.

That is if the navi unit doesn't have a shitty user interface however.

Actually I don't want nav because I want to keep the car for a long time. Look at nav units from 10, or even 5 years ago. They don't age well and a lot times you can't update them. Google maps on my phone is always up to date, and if I get tired of it I can just buy a new phone.

That's a really good point. Made me say "duh!" to myself out loud.

Not trying to have a go at anyone. I just need to understand. Lets say you bought a 7 inch tablet for this car. Where would you mount it? And would you have to take it out of the car every single time? I like the idea of using a tablet, but would it be a good fit for this small car?

IMO it's going to be too small to try and mount a tablet in there to where it's accessible from the drivers seat. If anything I'd go with a stand alone GPS unit or just use my phone for the rare occurances when I need directions.

no_name 11-29-2011 11:15 AM

It looks like a standard double DIN. I'll be removing whatever comes standard and installing the bluetooth sony unit I'm currently using and using my phone for GPS.

Please don't insult Toyota/Subaru with Apple-like comparisons. The Iphone is a piece of shit.

Really? That's what this conversation is going to become?

I have an iPhone. It makes calls and stuff!! I personally don't understand the "phone wars". I don't give a crap what phone anyone else on this forum uses.

My bad, I'll try harder to hide my hate of all things Apple. They make it difficult by suing everyone on earth though.

There's an off topic forum if you want to get on an anti-apple soap box.

It's Apple.

But I would just build a mini-atx form factor pc and run a screen off it with touch software installed on windows. Done deal.

Amen to that brother but i cant help but wonder if this screen can/will be able to have a function like Nissan screens.

Nav man, Gauges and radio/entertainment all in 1.

Similar to this, personally i think its only a software thing and i cant see why not.

If so and its $2000 then ill get it for sure.

Give me less technology. I want a stripped down driver. Keep your Navis and touch screens for people that don't know how to appreciate a drivers car.
