JDM TRD Sound Changer Tubes
I was thinking about picking a set of these up to put on my car, but I wasn't sure how easy they were to install and swap out. I figure they'll be a cheap alternative until I can afford the actual TRD exhaust in a few months. I don't care if I'm the only one that will be able to hear the sound :D Could anyone give me an idea of what I'd be looking at for install time? 5 minutes, 10 minutes? Because if it's going to be a big job every time I want to change them out, I'm not sure if I'll even get them at all.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23864 First time its about 10Minutes till you figure everything out, after that you'll probably only have 2-3 Minutes to change it. Its pretty easy |
Are there really worth it?

I'm thinking about picking it up, no promising intakes yet and the aftermarket intakes take out the sound tube anyways...

Is anyone organizing a group buy? I just Googled TRD sound changer and one of the links was ***************** where someone named Timding organized a group buy in November for $50 including shipping. That group buy is now over.
|
japanparts.com lists these for like $37 + shipping. Shipping to Midwest states is $31 so $68 shipped is not bad. I was surprised to notice the sound changer STILL makes a difference in sound even with my Takeda intake and GReddy SP Elite exhaust installed.

I ordered it from Carson Toyota a few weeks ago for $50 shipped. It looks like it would take a month to arrive.

Ghaaaa. I thought I was saving some money getting it from japanparts!
If I'd only waited a little longer to see the last few posts about Carson...LOL Ohh well, I like getting packages directly from Japan :) |
^Plus japanparts ships a lot faster. Everything I've bought from them (that was not on backorder) took 10-11 days from the time I ordered to the time I received it. It's like expedited international shipping for not that much more.

does anyone have the exact link to the sound charger at japan parts. U guys think they ship it to canada?

If anyone just wants to sell me the red one, pm me :)
|
Got mine and installed the red one couple days ago. The installation was very straight forward. It took me 10 min.
The red tube has a very noticeable different than the stock tube. I can hear it as low as 2k rpm. It has a bit more roar than the stock at the low rpm. In the 4 to 5.5k rpm, the red sounds as loud as the stock at above 6k rpm. In 6 to 7k, the red is very loud, and its a bit too loud for my taste. Ill try the green one and see if I like that better. |

I like this mod. It offers a good a value since I want all the engine sound I can get in the cabin.
Is MS162-18001 the part number for the USA? |
