Bespoke "86" Badges

Greetings Ya'all

As part of my VEERRY drawn out personalisation of my '86 I have decided to make up my very own badges.

These are all a modification of the "86" logo.. I have only completed the 3D print of the front page.. it is based on the Toyota badge size wise and seats the 86 logo inside the classic Toyota Oval

The rear trunk badge will be an enlarged version of the side "86" logo, complete with the stylised boxed engine emblem.. this will be about 3.5 times larger than the normal side ones.

Front and back badges will either be finished in coloured pewter or colour anodised or powder coated aluminium.

I will have the 3D print of the rear badge to show early next week..

Ok so here is a white print of the badge in situ.. the 86 logo stands proud.. the angle makes it look a little weird but I wanted it to be chunky

From the side

Slightly wider front view

The badge in hand to give an idea of size and detail

And a close up of the badge in place... we have made the little pins at the back so it will mount up perfectly in place with some 3M tape

Reupload? The first few pictures are down. This sounds interesting though. Can't wait to see the final product! If we get enough interest going, will you make some more and sell them?

MattQ-WP 12-06-2012 12:37 PM

re-loaded..

I'm not a vendor but if I get a whole bunch of you wanting them .. then sure.. I'll contact the admins and first get a vendor status.. I've spent a packet on 3D guys, a couple of 3D prints to get it right and will be testing out a couple of materials.. I'm already close to $400 in R&D (silly car fan) so I would love to be able to get some of my costs back and would be super keen to supply something cool to the community :)

Let's see what the finished products look like first.. I certainly wouldn't want to mass produce them if they end up looking crap - ha ha!

looks a little thick haha. if you made one close in thickness with the normal oem badge then id definitely pick one up

anxious to see the final product, it looks like a bubblegum for now haha

Holy Hood Ornament Batman!
looks too thick, as in it protrudes too much. Make it stick out just a little bit above the toyota oval, and I think it would look better. less is more, and all that...

MattQ-WP 12-06-2012 03:34 PM

Ja it does look a bit like a 86 stylee sweet of sorts :)

I was kind of worried about the thickness but I also wanted it to be CHUNKY.. I'm hoping the shape will make more sense once it's metallic... if not it'll be back to the drawing board.. at least one thing I can count on here is varied and constructive criticism.

Yea make one the same thickness and profile as stock Toyota badge but just put the round 86 bit inside the oval bit. I'd buy one then ;)

Agreed with everyone else-- Not a fan of the thickness, but really like the idea!

This is cool. Want to see finished product but agree with thickness ideas.

im down for this if you make it thinner like the others said!

Burrcold 12-07-2012 09:18 PM

Very creative!

Chrome, remove the toyota sides so its just a circle and slimmer and shut up and take my money

alrashwa 12-09-2012 06:26 AM

I like this, subscribing. Best rebadging idea I've seen for this car.

jshadeck 12-09-2012 10:45 AM

Make it thinner and cut out the holes in the 86, ill take two please :)

MattQ-WP 12-13-2012 04:29 AM

Thanks guys :)

I've almost finished work for the year so I can put more pressure on the printers to get this right.. I've asked for a thinner version and want to get the rears ready to show ya'all

I would have liked to remove the toyota circle from the font badge but it's needed to anchor to the existing holes in the bonnet

If it doesn't look right then I will try a plain circle and will also try and distort the logo to fill the oval

M@!

Here's my version of a 3D printed 86 Badge. I really just did it for fun and practice. Having a subaru I have no desire to re-badge. I might have one chromed and stick it on the back.

I'm working on a few different 3D printed projects, as are others.

Hey OP are you still working on a badge?

Danh818 07-16-2013 09:30 PM

Not sure if this is still an active project or not, but I too have been wanting to re-badge my FR-S with something custom. I like where the OP was going with this and the additional suggestions that the badge be thinner and have the insides of the 86 cutout.
I'm not a vendor, and certainly don't want to break any forum rules, but I own a machine shop and would be willing to make some of these at my cost for a few people especially the OP. If anyone has any existing CAD files I'd love to take a look at them, as it would probably keep me from having to reverse engineer the stock emblem. Let my know your thoughts.
