Playing music through USB drive...

Everytime I turn my car off and back on, the USB drive plays from the first song (it doesn't remember what track i was on like it does when you play a CD). Anyone experiencing this?

Ingen 12-04-2012 08:09 AM

How is your music laid out?

13 FR-S Veteran 12-04-2012 09:31 AM

mine doesn,t do that.....but the "random" isn't so random on mine.....I find that it plays the same songs in the same order over and over.....the only fix i've found for this is to unplug and re plug it in.

Rayme 12-04-2012 09:42 AM

IMO it's worth getting an ipod and leaving it permanently in the car. It works as it should.

whtchocla7e 12-04-2012 10:14 AM

I have a Sansa mp3 player and don't experience this issue.

any advantage to getting a new ipod nano with blue tooth and leaving it in the car as a dedicated music player over using your iphone?

i love that it will play wirelessly, but the nano will still have to be charged. do the nanos have a super long battery life or something?

Well I dont know how people use their phones / ipod but I think it's just an hassle to plug your phone or sync it each time I get it. I'd rather have a cabled player permanently in the car with my songs on it, it's reliable and works like you expect it to work, shows artists and playlist / covers and whatnot.

I start the car and the music starts playing where it was from before...like it should be  (you know, like the the days of casettes and CD's lol)

I've tried playing my music from my cell phone via blue tooth and the sound quality just isnt there....it's like listening through a tin can.

How about the days of those first portable cd players wired up using the casette tape adapter. I was lucky and had "mechanical" antishock....translate...a spring

Tt3Sheppard 12-04-2012 11:12 AM

I find the quality of the bluetooth transfer to be the same as AUX.

WiKKiD 12-04-2012 11:17 AM

iTunes match FTW anytime I add music to my iTunes its on my iPhone no need to sync. 19,000 songs available and streams them thru my phones Internet. Bluetooth is the way to go

Mine is the same quality either way. Sounds great.

BlaineWasHere 12-04-2012 11:19 AM

USB will give best sound quality, but the speakers suck so much balls I'm not sure if it matters.

I actaully just bought myself a "car iPod" because I was sick of plugging in and un-plugging my phone!

In my experience....I agree with that.

As for the apeaker quality... I made the investment into the OEM audio plus system 400 and my system sounds great! (and nothing rattles)

pr086 12-04-2012 11:35 AM

as far as blue tooth, do you just pair it once and thats it or will i have to pair the phone or ipod every time i use it? i want to be able to just turn on the ipod and have it connect automatically.

Once. After that whenever it is within range it will connect automatically. And with my iPhone I could be in my driveway with my phone in my house 50ft. And it connects which surprised me because I have a old brick house with player walls with metal sheathing.

Tt3Sheppard 12-04-2012 11:56 AM

How much better is the quality if through USB? The only issue I have with using my IPOD is that it will give someone a reason to break into my car. The white cable gives it away.

13 FR-S Veteran 12-04-2012 12:06 PM

I don't speak techno...... but i'd estimate the sound quality to be equal. I say that having listened to music through my phone on both blue tooth and by wire through the aux input.

I suppose it all depends on the quality of the file.

I have mine in a folder called music, then beneath that is artist folders, then albums, then the track files. If you get iTunes and acquire all your music then use their consolidation function it will prepare it.

mezdup 12-05-2012 07:49 AM

these are some other issues you could come across (with solutions): http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17141.

i've never had the issue with USB not picking up where it left off, in fact sometimes after i turn the car off, i take the USB out to add more songs to it. next morning before starting back up i put it back in and it still manages to pick up where it left off. i also haven't had any issue with random not working, but if either of these come up i'll post if i find any resolutions.

edit: come to think of it, both of these issues could arise from a bad USB drive. try using another one and see if you get the same issues.

If you are playing through bluetooth or aux you may want to increase the volume on the phone. I have noticed that the bass is lacking unless the phone volume is near max. Regardless the stock stereo has minimal bass and a subwoofer is needed for it to be tolerable.

Thanks...but I think you missed the part where I said I added the OEM Audio Plus System 400. I'm good in the bass department.

i just put MP3's on a 2gb usb drive and it continues to play where it left off...is completely random when on random and no problems at all...

At least yours plays right. Mine has problems when I plug in the USB and select "next folder". See here:

cwb48 12-08-2012 12:05 PM

Mine picks up where it left off, as long as you haven't switched to the radio or CD, in which case it starts at folder one when you switch back to USB. This is true even if the car is turned off.

I just wish it could read the folder name instead of converting to "folder1, folder2,....". Also, some of my CDs don't have the properties filled in after ripping, but you can fix this on a computer by right clicking on the .mp3 file, selecting "properties" and filling in the information.

I like using my Ipod because it displays track info, but when I use my phones bluetooth connection, I don't notice a difference in quality. I'm also paranoid, so I leave my Ipod in the glovebox, and run the cable through the back, and down the center console. I tuck it away so it's between the center console & passenger seat when I park the car.

You need to get a black cable. I have a black iPod with a black cable in the dash insert. You can't see it from outside the car through the windows unless you look really hard, in bright light.

Yea, i've been meaning to get a shorter usb cable, getting a black one is a good idea. I have sort of gotten used to using that space to put my wallet though.

I made a "folder" for each artist by having a separate directory on the flash drive.

same here. the question i have is how i can prevent it starting when i start the car. when i've turned the radio off when i drove the car last, i expect it to still be off when i start the car again, but that doesn't seem to be possible unless i've missed something.
USB does seem to take priority over anything else too. i bought a new cd this week (i know, who still does that), so i put it in, selected Disk from the menu and it started playing no problem. then i went to the mall, did my shopping, got back in and the USB started up, when the cd was playing when i turned the car off... me no likey that too much

RMStringer 02-02-2013 07:56 PM

I got a 64gb USB drive and i have had no problems at all. Plays like it should. Wish the ID3 Tag support was better for the BeSpoke unit. Perhaps there will be a Firmware upgrade this year.

It would be nice...
