Missourifornian's Scion FR-S

Welcome to my build thread. Car was purchased in december 2012. Has been through one engine @35,000 miles because of heat. Other than that, car has slowly evolved from a normal daily driver to a more serious performance car. March 2016 I entered in my first drift event; this will be marked as either the worst or best decision I've made in this car's life.... Mods are listed below, there's about 2 years of stuff missing, but from now (oct 2017) I'll try to keep this thread updated. If you have any questions, PM me! :)

Cool car! Have you joined our KC group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/452909128083343/

I've seen some of our members with Five Axis wheels but none with the kit yet. I have yet to see one in person. From those pics you posted, it would look great in that color.

6-Shift 11-28-2012 04:23 PM

Yeah I have! I have yet to see another FR-S or BR-Z driving around in the Kansas City area though :(

bestwheelbase 11-28-2012 09:42 PM

@Missourifornian you've got cool stuff planned!

Speaking of tailpipe colors, GReddy USA hit the street last December (wow only a year ago!) in a black car with titanium tips. Link to thread. I think it looked rad.

KC

I'm in KC also but I'm not on Facebook. How many of are there in KC?

I remember drooling over this car when images started popping up :D Glad to finally have my own though, it's like significant others: while looking can be fun, there's nothing better than coming home to your own personal perfection every night  I'm talking about my girlfriend I swear.....I'm not in love with my car or anything....hehe ;)

I'm looking into meeting up with some other Scion guys in between Christmas and New Years in Kansas City, PM me if you're interested. Welcome to the club!

This is why you never buy a rental car.

6-Shift 12-08-2012 12:32 AM

Another post with zero pics, but I'm currently salivating to return home and clay bar/wax my car. I arrive in Kansas City at 11:20 on the 21st, will be home by 1 or so, so I have all day to clean :D I'll be doing a full wash (even though I handwashed it before I left), a full clay bar treatment, and a complete wax job (including taping off, something I've previously been too lazy to do.) I'm planning on meeting up with some other scion guys in the KCK area on the 22nd and I want my baby to be pretty :)

6-Shift 12-10-2012 04:41 PM

Because I was curious.

6-Shift 12-12-2012 11:14 PM

Update: Just ordered a Perrin Shorty antenna, magnetic drain plug, Because Race Car sticker and FT-86 Speed Factory from FT-86 Speed Factory :D Finally bought SOMETHING for the car, I can't wait to get home and install/ place the new stuff!

edit: the drain plug isn't going on until my first oil change, which will probably be at 1000 miles and/or summer.

body kit option #2

4 Attachment(s)
Sick bodykit and wing, the body kit is MUCH cheaper than the 5AD kit but the wing is listed MSRP $1,580...eek. The only disadvantage to the body kit is that it doesn't come pre-painted...decisions decisions:iono:

Or, in layman's terms, adding 4 stickers, an antenna, and doing a full clay bar/wax job...Haven't gotten a chance to do more than start her up and let the engine warm up because the roads around me still have a ton of mud/snow/ice/etc...Hoping to make a maiden voyage tomorrow :)

I remember a friend of mine going crazy about this sticker for a short time when he got it for his car. I feel compelled to point out it might be a perfect sticker for the FR-S, though I'd never get away with it in my car. It would've looked good on your dash though.

Yeah, I think he tried to get me to get one, but I told him my parents occasionally drive the car and I just wouldn't get away with it. xD But it's almost perfect for an FR-S I think.

Exhaust tips!

Here's a comparison of the stock tip vs. the DC sports tip and a pic of them installed. You have to see it in person to appreciate the difference, it really improves the performance look of the rest of the car.

Where can I order it? And do you have instruction for the install of it?

I ordered it off amazon:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/DC-EX-1013-Stainless-Resonated-Exhaust/dp/B003D4KA32/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1360738681&sr=8-3&keywords=dc+sports+exhaust+tips"]DC Sport EX-1013 Stainless Steel Resonated Slant Cut Bolt-on Exhaust Tip : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

The installation seriously couldn't be easier, the stock tip unbolts/unscrews with one bolt and you should just have to tug a bit to pull it off. The hardest part is centering the tips in the bumper openings, the DC sports tips come with an interesting 3 side adjustment so you can basically set up the tips however you prefer. This was my timeline for installing them: 10 minutes getting old tips off/ putting new tips on; 45 minutes adjusting the tips to sit how I wanted them to....that's just me though. Can't beat the mod though, hope I helped!:w00t:

Not 100% sure about the "burnt" tips but I think they'd look cool on my black car. Maybe it's just the inner Fast and Furious-raised kid trying to be let out ;)

Hat tip to @Unleashed for the picture/video!

This is the catback I ordered. From what I hear its a real bang for your buck!

The invidia n1 is really popular for our cars, I believe there's an install DIY somewhere in the DIY section. It's really simple, it's just a matter of unbolting one and adding the other. Most people have done it in their driveways actually.

I wish :/ I've been away at school since January. I'm still trying to decide between the Invidia N1 and a Berk dual muffler delete. No matter what I'm getting a catless front pipe very soon. My other plans are the spacers I showed you and painting my wheels orange. :happy0180:

Oh yeah, I'm also looking at a rear sway bar but I'm not sure....

Eh your car, but i would recommend keeping your cats for a number of reasons... Especially in 4 cylinders, after a while, a catless exhaust will slowly begin to sound like sh*t and also you experience FAR less check engine lights. On my GTI i have a turbo back exhaust and the check engine light was a weekly ordeal for me :suicide:

The difference is, on the Toyobaru, the o2 sensor is after the first cat on the header. Anything you do after that doesn't matter as far as the ECU/engine is concerned. I know nothing about the catless sounding worse and worse, though. My dream exhaust is the ARK Grip series, followed by the invidia n1. The appeal of the exhaust delete is that with the delete and catless front pipe it'd still be cheaper than the n1 by a considerable amount. Interestingly enough, from most reports the muffler delete drones quite a bit less than the Invidia N1 and for me, that is important because I spend most of my time on the highway. Do you notice any cabin drone with yours?

Yeah honestly sometimes the drone gets so loud i feel like my eardrums are gonna pop lol but that usually happens in the 4.5-6k range.

As far as the o2 sensor I did not know that! Thanks for the info, might have to reconsider my setup in the future now!
