I'm waiting for permission from the gentleman to post the pics...... Also heard from a little birdy that there is an unsold Orange 86! I'm seriously surprised! |

This is what I have.
No idea what make/type? Doesn't look like any of the ones I've seen on the forum. I left out the other pics, because I havent spoken to the gentleman yet... |
That looks like something Rob Green Motorsport may have put together.
They are well known for Vortech kits. I'm not sure if they have brought in any of the kits for the 86, but this may well be a custom kit from them locally? |
Just had a look at RGM's website, and it does look like one of theirs. Will let you all know as soon as I get any other info.
|
Can't say I like the look, but good to see local manufacturers coming up with mods for the 86.
I really like the look of the Vortech Supercharger. Sent a mail through to SAC, to find out what they can do for extra performance on the 86, as they do a lot of work with Toyota and keeping with warranties. |
Let us know what you get from them.

Some info, when I spoke to Rob at TTCC charity event last weekend...

In a nutshell, he has confirmed they have a kit in the final production stages, using a Vortech supercharger.
Figures and pricing have not been confirmed yet, but Rob expects to see a 60% increase in power. I am guessing that it will not be the exact bolt-on kit that Vortech supplies, but will be customised with RGM's signature parts like the water-to-air cooler and top notch fabrication. It will most probably be run off a UniQ unichip. This is just my speculation so don't bite my head off. LOL! I think we can see good power from this kit in SA, especially since we don't have as strict emmision laws compared to other parts of the world. |

Sorry for the late response...
"So, at the charity day yesterday Rob Green showed up in his supercharged FJ cruiser.... http://www.tolken.co.za/twincamforum...on_biggrin.gif I spoke to him about a supercharger kit for Toyota 86... He mentioned the following: - Kit is under final development - The kit will be Vortex - 6 has been ordered, 5 already sold - 60% increase in power...!! Please note that these kits are still under development and that final figures and prices will be released by RGM at a later stage. GREAT NEWS...!! http://www.tolken.co.za/twincamforum.../notworthy.gif" |
awesome for you guys!

Some feedback received from Rob Green yesterday:
"Thank you so much for following up, I am 2 days away from releasing our RGMotorsport-Vortech Supercharged conversion and will mail you shortly." I will post an update once I recieved the new info within the next two days.... Can't wait....!! http://www.tolken.co.za/twincamforum...ies/happy1.gif |

I spoke to the local SAC, it seems that SAC are working on an exhaust system as well, interestingly they replace the cat with a high flow cat. They'll get back to me with more info.

Yikes!
So, we're looking at R 85,000 to get 210kws? That's roughly one third of the vehicle's purchase price. |
Screw that, RGM does good work but they're ridiculous with their prices.

Just to put into perspective..
The kit is not cheap yes, this kit retails for almost $5000 over seas. BUT we get the kit completely installed with performance filter, UniQ chip installed and mapped/dyno. Atleast someone went through the trouble and R&D to bring us this kit reliably to SA. |

Based on price, would a supercharged 86 be on your buying list for R420k? 86 is about fun and affordability, anyone making after market parts should always keep this in mind or the product won't sell. |
Lets see what TRD is gonna bring to the table... Cause 75k ...... Ouchy..... :sigh:
|
Don't know how you get to 420K...?
When you want a +200kw rwd sprots car... I guess "affordability" starts flying out the window... :) I mean, people don't mind paying 400k for a Renault or a Golof....! But anyways... just thought I'd share some info.... :w00t: It would be nice yes - if someone could provide a good quality, reliable and tested kit for half the price, but I doubt it..! Let's hold thumbs for TRD.... :burnrubber: |
High spec R330k plus R85k super charger plus plus gets you close to R420k.
Everyone to there own, however new Golf 7 will be less and has many more features plus 4 doors which will sway the buyer. R20k to R30k would be a competitive price in my opinion, whether that's achievable! Your information has been most informative, |
So this is the same kit Perrin has on there vortech car. 210kw flywheel or wheel ? ... when Perrin dynoed there vortech kit they got around 250 whp, thats ~ 185wkw ... would have been nice if RGM offered the ECUTek option as opposed to piggy back
Price is :confused0068: |
High Performance Supercharger Kit

The proprietary internal design of the supercharger offers exceptional isentropic efficiency when compared to other supercharger and turbocharger designs and only requires servicing every 30,000 miles! INTEGRATED INTERCOOLER - The intake manifold features highly efficient Laminovaฎ liquid to air intercooler cores inside (Stage 2 only). FUEL SYSTEM UPGRADES - The Stage 2 kit includes high flow injectors and a fuel pump to support higher horsepower levels. TUNING - All kits include a professionally engineered EcuTek calibration to provide optimum performance and "OEM" driveability. OEM AIRBOX - The original airbox and MAF sensor is maintained on the suction (cold) side to prevent damage to sensitive electronics, maintain OEM appearance and provide excellent air filtration. HIGH PERFORMANCE INTAKE MANIFOLD - The purpose built intake manifold is a direct replacement and provides superior performance over the stock intake manifold. |
i think we should all take a back seat and give about another 6 to 8 months, before we even consider buying a kit, there are so many manufactures whom want a piece of the 86,
that the competition is going to get so steep and force prices to drop. lets wait and see what happens, and also consider that know one has done any safe miles with a kit to give any indication of reliability. |
Wow that really looks the part hey

A quick update on Braam's 86 Supercharger build:
We tested my car on his dyno as a baseline and got 100kw at the wheels (not bad for 35 deg C ambient!) Later in the afternoon he tested his . . . . 156kw at the wheels :confused0068: Wow. |

Sorry wrong pic. Here are some new ones.
|
Can you post your dyno graph.
|
And a sound clip if possible - from inside and outside. ;)
|
I've asked him for digital copies of the dyno runs, I'll see if we can get together for a video clip sometime.
|
|
only 210 kw? and thats on the flywheel not on the wheels... for that price you might aswell import a TURBO because it gives more power. RGM is abit crazy for 85k
