I tried it, I have a small "chip", very hard to fill, more noticeable with the touch-up paint. I've learned to live with it.
|
I bought it on the same month I got the BRZ.
When using the touchup, you just got to be very patient with your brush otherwise you end up putting too much and it just makes it look blotchy which is just as ugly. Every owner needs a set of these as our paint is so damn soft and fragile. |

Here's a site I always refer to for Toyota color codes. You can even order from them too. In paint pen, brush style or spray. http://www.toyotareference.com/scionfrs |
17 bucks wow... but shes worth it lol :)
That's a nice site! |

I just noticed that site is in a sticky! LOL
Goes to show that if you want to hide something from the masses, put it in a sticky.. |

go to a crafts store and buy a very small artists paintbrush. use tiny tabs of paint in the area to fill until its covered |
Yep. You have to build. I usually get a tiny bit at the end if a toothpick and transfer it to the chipped area so the paint touches the edges of the factory paint, but does not go over the edge.
Then I let it dry and shrink. Repeat as necessary to try and match the level of factory paint. I usually go a tiny bit over. If you know what you're doing, you can sand/polish it down to level it out as its softer that the factory paint. But that takes more time and skill. I wouldn't jump into that unless you've got some practice and know the limitations of the materials you're working with. I certainly wouldn't suggest the first time in the middle of the hood or anything like that. |

Our touch-up paint is pretty forgiving when it comes to errors too. If you messed up and over painted; simply just wait a few minutes (in cold weather) it thickens into a rubbery layer and it just rubs off like eraser bits. Edit: Then again, my car is Opti-coated... So not sure if works without it. |
Went to the toyota dealer today, 10 bucks and will be here in a few days :-)
|
Good to find links for this stuff, I'm sure I'll need it. I used the toothpick trick as well, if you build it up enough and have a very steady hand you can also use a razor blade to shave it down level and then just polish it.

Check out DrColorChip.com. Factory OEM paint and it comes with a kit with amazing results. I've purchased kits from them in the past for other cars I've had and it does an amazing job if you want to touch up your paint correctly.

I picked some up from the Subaru dealership. Had a nasty chip about 1/4" diameter on the tip of the "fang". so far just put on the base coat, its pretty cold out so it wasn't drying fast, 100% better. From 10 feet away you can't even tell it was chipped. I got to fire up the wood stove in the shop and finish it off though.

My Subaru dealer sent me to their preferred repairer who made me up a nail polish remover style bottle of o2c (WRB blue) for $10 in less than 5 mins. |
Ideally you need to fill the chip in with one step bondo, if you just put paint in the chip the paint will shrink, chip out, and you'll never be able to fill in that chip with just paint. When you apply the paint, over apply, allow to dry, sand with 2500, then lightly polish the sanding. This will look so much better and last much longer that paint alone.

Only had my car for 3 days and my friend bangs the passenger door right into a wall.. wtf! Anyway, was able to find Whiteout touchup paint from the new Subaru Dealership in Torrance in case anyone needs!
Paid $20.22 - Comes with base coat and top coat. Will probably do a clear coat as well. http://i45.tinypic.com/wqwjr4.jpg http://i49.tinypic.com/1zgrt34.jpg |
Good info here. I need to do a tiny rock chip on my front bumper...
Thanks all!! |
any pictures of the results w/ OEM touch up paint? Debating between using OEM vs getting Dr. ColorChip
|
Just watched a couple of negative youtube videos about Dr ColorChip paints and durability. Apparently you have to re apply over and over as the paint doesnt hold beyond 6 months time... anyone else who has used it see this issue? There are other glowing videos about the application and the immediate look after, but if it doesnt hold, I dont want to maintain chip repairs every 3-6 months?! Please advise...

any whiteout owners have tiny ding chips in front bumper?
i have 2 ding chip and i can see the black part were the paint has chipped it :mad0259: dont want to have lots of tiny black spots all over my front bumper.. my neighbor jetta front is all chipped and major paint removed chunks overtime formed dont want my car ending up like that..i take care of my baby unlike them lazy.. going to buy them pen tip touch up at autozone... i know avoiding tiny rocks flinging around the freeway will be imposible.. i always look way ahead if any trucks could be spilling gravel :burnrubber: |
Hm...got a small scratch/chip on my rear bumper today. Went to dealership to buy some touchup paint, but mine only came in 1 bottle, and doesn't say base coat/top coat on the bottle, it just says touch-up paint? Because it was a scrape, some of the paint was "pushed up", so it's noto smooth. I'm getting car detailed next week and opti-coated, will the polishing compound help smooth it out a bit?

I got a touch-up paint pen from the toyota dealership and it had two ends. The one end was the coloured paint and the other end was clear coat. My detailer did two or three applications of the coloured paint, allowing it to dry in between and then built up the clear over the level of the paint around it. I'll take it back to him in the spring and at that time he will compound it and level it out.

Can I apply more touch up paint to the repaired surface even after the paint is dry? I was told to only apply a thin layer, now after 24 hours I notice it is still sunken in a little. Can I just apply a little more touch up paint to the spot? Or do I need to remove the existing paint and start again?
Is it better to apply too much or too little paint? |
I've tried this. Works great. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/cho...ion&model=fr-s

Its here!!! 37J Whiteout Pearl! Gonna test it out and will update for results.

So I had my car opticoated today. Detailer was able to smooth out the gouge, but now I've noticed I missed a spot and there is a thin white line showing now. Can I still apply some touchup paint on top, or is it too late since it is already opticoated?
|
you should be fine. I did it after optiguarded..
|
I have a dime sized chip on my front fender by the headlight. Its down to the metal. Prolly gonna have to have it professionally fixed :(
|
Anybody know what our doorhandles are made of? Somebody has now dinged my door handle, haven't had time to touch up paint and it's raining a lot and wondering if I need to worry about rusting or not?
